Fabulous! We absolutely lived for this kinda stuff back in that year. Couldn't do it now but fantastic memories still come back when I see this. Sadly 2 of our crew are no longer with us ❤
I was 'bout 17 in 1984, when I bought that single. Haven't heard it for MANY years now. Brings back old memories, when I was (totally fit) a gymnastis with the best requirements for Breakdancing. Not many B-Boys could do flic-flac, salto and so on in the early days. To learn the "windmill" I took a VHS (there was nothing else) of BEAT STREET and watched it frame by frame in my room in the basement and after months (yes, it took months, sorry...) of trying (not all the time, but between gymnastic training and after school, there IS not always time to practise alone) and many little injuries (hurt my kneecap one time - ouch), I finally did it. And from this moment I always asked why it took so long to learn it? Later I took many moves from BEAT STREET (Lee's moves were great and I learned them) and of course, MANY moves from the battle at the Roxy. Later I met a guy here in germany (later he became runner-up in breakdancing here in the middle 80's. Haven't seen him for a long time, too, cause he moved, but a few weeks ago we met in a shopping mall, he was visiting his family. Was nice to talk to him again. Well, I'm sure I still could do many moves (sometimes I try SLOWLY), but now both of my shoulder outer ligament are damaged (from work I did the last 12 years) and the knees - don't talk about it. But it was good times these days in the 80's-90's...
I actually lived this lifestyle when I was a teenager in the 80's. I danced like that, dressed like that and had talent like that. Most importantly, it taught me the importance of creativity, art, passion, self expression and discipline. Now, I am a grown man. I do not dance quite the same, however, the essence is still there and the celebration of life, follow through and authentic self expression continues. I will always have Street Dance in my heart! Thank you Break Machine!
Still have this song on record 1983 was Great. It had it's a blue day & that song by Steve Perry oh Sherrie Marc Almond 1985 was good to tears run rings✌🏿.
In 1984 I was 20 years old in the city of my birth LA. I was totally lost. Sort of homeless at times, in and out of the county jail for traffic warrants and minor offenses, in a world wind relationship with my first girlfriend whose family hated me, unable to find employment and oh yeah, listening to this song in the background. I’m so fortunate to have made it, not just through that year, but through a life that was full of roadblocks and beat downs. I came through it without ever being shot or stabbed, without going to the penitentiary, without becoming addicted to drugs or alcohol. I’ll be 60 next year and I’m so glad I made it through
:The life is youth is hard everywhere for me also I am in France but also a life of madness, I am soon 55 years old in spite of a difficult life we are always there 🙂

This use to be my favorite song growing up. Still have it on cassette til this day. I can still listen to it over and over again. I give a lot of credit to the singer because he is dancing and singing at the same time and he does both very well.
Quando avabou os anos 80 junto com ele se foi a criatividade e a alegria esse classico dos anos 80 nos tempos do break e so dos muitos exemplos que eu poderia citar aqui quantas saudades❤
Yup, rolled back the carpet and failed miserably, but kept trying lol. Herbie Hancock Rockit, Shannon Let the Music Play, Run DMC Sucker MCs. Can't beat growing up in the 80s.
Had this tune on cassette tape back in the day, felt an urge to listen to it bad but I did not know the name of artist....... I looked a long time on the net and here I am.. finally
simple as it can ever be (and i mean simply said not the song itself) - greatest breaks/freestyle song of all time and it beats the "messsage" and "planet rock"
This tune still blows my mind all those years ago. The radio stations in Barbados gave this tune so much air play and it still sounds good today as it did when I first heard it. Big shout out to the mother of breakdance. NYC!!!!
I was in the USAF doing a tour in the UK and when I wasn't working for them I DJ'ed on the side on and off base. I ran with the Mastermind Crew out of London and I remember meeting them at a show they did at a club in London. Really kool guys and didn't realize how big there record and video was in Europe. I'm proud to say I was a part of Hip Hop culture taking off in the UK especially in London.

we use to break to this tune like crazy! back in the early 90s tho ahaha, i live in Danmark. but maaan we rocked out big time to all the tunes from back then, still pure epicness at its finest
As a NYC resident born and raised, as well as someone who is into breakdancing and early 80's hip-hop, but unfortunately born in '84, this song and video SERIOUSLY makes me wish I had a time machine.
