Predator is a 1987 American science fiction action film directed by John McTiernan and written by brothers Jim and John Thomas. It is the first installment in the Predator franchise. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team on a mission to save hostages in guerrilla-held territory in a Central American rainforest, who encounter the deadly Predator (Kevin Peter Hall), a technologically advanced alien who stalks and hunts them down.
Predator was written in 1984 under the working title of Hunter. Filming ran from March to June 1986 with creature effects devised by Stan Winston; the budget was around $15 million. 20th Century Fox released the film on June 12, 1987, in the United States, where it grossed $98.3 million. Initial reviews were mixed, but the film has since been reappraised as a classic of the action genre.
The success of Predator spawned a media franchise of films, novels, comic books, video games, and toys. It spawned three direct sequels: Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018), and an upcoming installment in preproduction. A crossover with the Alien franchise produced the Alien vs. Predator films, which include Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).

I think taking it back in history as a prequel is the best road the franchise could take. The Predator alien has been around for thousands of years and having it interact with people during the Civil War or even further back in time is an awesome idea. I really hope we get something like this.

I hope you are right but i worry about the geography. It all but the second movie they take place (or at least start) in a hot jungle. Based on the lore from the first one they only come during the hottest summers. No jungle in north america and much of the time is cold so idk . This is already starting to contradict the lore a bit. They could make it worth it and I hope they do.
Zero hope. Apparently Hollywood still hasn't learned the lesson: "go woke, get broke". Forcing female leads, gender swapping, forcing "diverse cast" even if it makes no sense, it's a practice that literally alienates us as an audience. Characters need to be organic, actors cast if their energy and attitude pull the story, if you cast a woman to virtue signal, just to check a box on the list, I guarantee it will work just as well as a snow mobile without tracks, it sucks. It's unfortunate how much this insanity has spread, specifically when you realize these people are a very small minority. As a social engineering project it can be said that it has been an absolute success, because another thing that is clear to anyone willing to see it, is that it isn't, and never was, a spontaneous movement, it was always aimed at weakening, undermine, depress and break down the newer generations. Picard's second season is the latest example, it's on the nose to the point of being unwatchable, and Halo isn't much better, with a collection of insufferable female leads. The thing that is both funny and infuriating is that Hollywood has a great record of strong female roles, they just chosen to ignore them in favor of overwritten SJW characters, meaning their SJW-ness is overwritten, and that's it, that is their only trait. So sad and disappointing, Halo in particular, because visually it's very good, if you look past some under-rendered cgi characters I find the sets and overall efx really nice.

What they need to do is bring back the Aliens in my opinion. Seeing the Predators take the role from a killer to more of a defender and helping people fight off the xenomorphs is more cool because it's a unique and temporary alliance.

AVP was f’n incredible, my fav of all !!! More downs(latest movie)than ups since AVP but this franchise could be saved with a new trilogy goin deeper into the explanation of the Alien and Predator mutual existence. Actually it was from a pirate it was in the comics, there is video on TH-cam talks about it.
The gun belong to a pirate named Rafael alolini his story actually takes place 4 years before this predator story happens he was a pirate he was mutinied by his crew and he ended up taking them on the predator that once hundred him actually helped him they fought side by side until Rafael was fatally injured and gave the pistol to Grant to grayback predator that we saw in predator 2 I hope that helped out some I wondered what happened to them red conning present aliens versus predator supposedly helping them build societies with the Mayans the Egyptians and so forth the president is helping humans make their own society but I digress this is supposed to be the first interaction what predators and human beings I don't know but I digress

Predator 1 and even 2 were at their best when the alien was more mysterious. As more installments are created and more story truly fleshed out the Predator franchise loses more and more of what makes it great. I would love to see more of the big aliens but only as they were originally. A mysterious force that drives the human story.

Since the 1st Predator movie, I've waited for a GOOD sequel, but alas, they can't seem to make it happen. Now it sounds like we're getting our hopes up for a "Woke" prequel. I hope they take a lesson from the first couple "Alien" movies and the roles of Sigourney Weaver. The first two were great!

Predator 1 & 2 will always be the best out of the franchise. They turned a classic horror action genre flick into a horror comedy flick and destroyed the essence and the intensity of the Predators brutality. Am yet to see a Predator flick that returns to this original composition.

Predator 5 "prey" is a surprise to me, I always thought a prequel it would during the time period of that trophy "gun" in Predator 2 or during the Aztecs, Incas whatever in AVP, but I'm just happy with another Predator movie.
I'm a Predator and Aliens fan so even with the series less popular entries I keep my expectations low and manage to be ok with all of the movies... if at least enjoy the special effects and fight scenes.

I thought the last predator was the best. Funny lines. Humorous situations, and gave hope at the end. I would like to see a continuation of the last predator. I’ve watched them all several times and this last one half a dozen times..

I've always enjoyed these movies. But of course my favorites are still the 1st and 2nd . But I must say I loved the last one. I loved the cast and thought they brought a lot of heart to it just like the cast in the original . You couldn't help but love and care about them. And the way they ended it made me think the military would make more suits like the Predator Killer, train a army of soldiers . Find out where their planet is and take the hunt to them. And finally put a end to it .

Partially unrelated, but did you know that the predator killer armor, (as cool as it looks) is a very early prototype and the actual metal plating and armor itself is SUPER brittle.

I would have thought more technology based with the feel of the 1st story grit , intensity build up , more intelligent based AI infused species . It needs the feeling of the first Alien, or The Thing , or even the fist star wars. It needs that . I really dig the Predator over all, it's technology to hide and blend into everything, it's sure size and strength, along with its will for tracking pray to create Carnage.
Too bad the "feel of the 1st story" climaxes with the predator recognizing Dutch as a warrior and strips himself of all his advanced tech and advantages to put themselves on more equal footing and see who has stronger warrior spirit. Spoilers: it was dutch

They should pick up from the scene on top of the pyramid when the Predators abolished the entire civilization when the aliens were about to defeat them.
I don’t understand why I am the only one that really enjoyed the last one! Hell it’s my favorite. I was so damn excited to see him whoop but in that Armour. So mad I’ll never see it.
I like the "bigger fish" aspect
The last one was OK. Way too much unnecessary swearing in my opinion. Also, there were too many things that didn't make sense . . . Plot holes that would not have been there if the writers were just paying more attention. Hopefully 5 will be better that way

With Shane Black, I had high expectations and thought it was lacking. It felt rushed, half-baked, and a little Olivia fantasy fulfillment for geeks.
The BIG reason hardcore fans absolutely hate the last one is that it completely ret-conned the reason they hunt from honor and glory to trying to make themselves stronger by hybridizing themselves with things they killed. That combined with the poorly timed and constant humor removing any tension the movie had built, bad CGI 'Final Boss' predator, abundant plot holes, and yes, even the Iron Predator suit just ruined the movie for many of us. Oh, and let us not forget the entire overarching plot that made autism a superpower the predator wanted to weaponize. The cast I feel are decent actors, just not for this movie. Or at least not as the comedy relief they were made out to be.
