  • I've been experimenting with a line over wash technique using a fountain pen and water soluble ink. This process was so much fun and worked even better than I expected. I will definitely return to it again.

    This is so awesome I love it. I wish I could draw like this. Your really good. I don’t know if it’s just me and this might be silly, but I see a face in your wash. The wash towards the upper right side looks like a side view of a face. I see a nose mouth and chin. It’s kinda cool. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.

    This is a really lovely piece. I love this effect too, especially with Noodlers Walnut ink. Also love their wampum. The bleed that it gets is rather magical. Especially in landscapes, the more water you add the more colors appear and there's some granulation with a lot of water.

    I'm guessing that you need to use a harder lead pencil so that it doesn't smear as much and muddy the watercolors you brush on top? This looks like such a lovely and satisfying technique. Beautiful art.

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's just HB lead. I never really worry about graphite graying my work. There isn't enough of it to matter. I paint fairly muted most of the time. If you use a lot of very soft graphite like 2B or darker then it will gray the colors a bit.

    LOVE this. So glad you enjoyed it as I'd love to see more like this. Also, loved seeing you go back and forth, especially the way you were hopping around the drawing, adding small touches evenly throughout the whole face. I tend to get detailed in one area too quickly which limits you later. It was interesting to see how you add small levels of detail overall, then doing another slight pass, then another, so the whole drawing gradually got done evenly. Does that make sense? Anyway, great piece, very helpful.

    I haven’t tried that particular flavor of ink but I like it. Lately I have been doing mostly colored charcoal and wc and getting some WIPs done. I noticed something about your painting and that is if you look to the man’s upper left ( our right) past the glasses there is a side portrait of a young man. Perhaps it might have been interesting as a younger version of himself or even a younger woman,it wouldn’t take much perhaps to lighten it up across the bridge of the nose and use a bit of wc. Steve that was a two-fer😊😂

    Love this! I'm also a big fan of the TWSBI Swipe. I have most of the ones produced. I'm sure you are familiar with this, but, DeAtrementis Document Ink is waterproof and comes in many colors. There's a red-gray, although that wouldn't help your ink wash. I love Noodler's as well. Lexington Gray is my go-to waterproof black since it's dark.

    Interesting !! Ty. I have a suggestion for you, since you love line and wash. If you love watercolor over graphite look, then perhaps you should try the Inktense outliner pencil. It stays put when it's washed by water. If you need darker lines, you can dip tip of pencil in water or draw over wet paper, and allow to dry just a little bit before washing. Inktense pencils are awesome for line and wash when you want color. Hope you give it a go. 😊

    I hope this isn’t a dumb question: are water soluble and water based ink the same? I love using juicy, water soluble ink then applying water to get impressionistic effect and tones . My newest favorite is Elegant Writer pens but I’m wondering if there are other pens with similar qualities in different colors . I’ve searched a lot and find a lot of water based inks but not sure they have the qualities I’m hoping for.
