Smart Farm | Indigenous 'kienyeji' chicken gaining popularity

Indigenous chicken or kuku kienyeji as they are popularly known in Swahili, are the most abundant livestock in many rural and peri-urban households in Kenya. Despite their potential, indigenous chicken rearing is mostly practiced on a subsistence basis. Small holder poultry farmers in Kajiado county have however embarked on a project to change that, kickstarting an initiative to formalise kienyeji chicken rearing.
