- This is the first episode: You Are About To PROCRASTINATE And You KNOW IT; of the series 'todo y nada', where we will talk about everything and nothing. The purpose of this is to practice your Spanish with comprehensible input about a certain topic that you can listen to while you do anything -as if it was a podcast-. In this case the topic of this first episode it's procrastination, (something I consider myself a pro at).
I encourage you to take part in this series and suggest topics you would like to discuss about as well as give your opinion or share your thoughts in Spanish so that you can practice! Let's open up a discussion, don't let this be a one sided conversation! Take advantage of me (I am here to answer and help you) and practice your Spanish!!

Hay un método infalible para no procrastinar, y es fácil de ejecutar, es hacerlo en cuanto te viene a la cabeza lo que tienes que hacer y no dejar espacio a las excusas! Si dilatas esa decisión un solo segundo, entonces el ‘huracán’ de la procrastinación entrará con toda su fuerza desplazando al infinito la buena disposición y ganas de hacer las cosas en ese momento. Hay tiempo para todo y como tú bien has dicho “primero la obligación y después la devoción “, de esta forma tachas de tu lista más alegremente esas tareas que tienes que hacer. Siempre te dejas un ‘as en la manga’, un ‘comodín’, que usas si realmente lo necesitas o estás cansad@, pues te esta permitido procrastinar, pero siempre sabiendo que es solo esa vez y no es para repetir la ‘procrastinación ‘ para cada cosa y en cada minuto.
El procrastinar siempre estará ahí retándonos y es bueno controlarlo y ser disciplinados pero a la vez flexibles! ¡VAMOS! Animo y sigue así tu buen trabajo!

Just so you know I've listened to music from Spain, Mexico, probably every Spanish speaking country for at least 40 years. Without speaking the language. I'd live to be able to understand what is being said without occasionally going on the web to translate lyrics. I've purchased several language programs. Rosetta Stone, Spanish for Gringos and others. But - i have procrastinated using them. Here i am all these years later. 🫤

Te agradezco que te hayas puesto las pilas para subir este videos antes de la fecha límite. Me gusta tu versión del método pomodoro, 50-50 me parece una mejor proporción. Debido al trabajo de turnos es necesario que yo no procrastine dormir también, solo un capítulo más.. ah solo me quedan 4 horas para dormir. ¡Demonios! Siempre ando buscando métodos para dormirme cuando no tengo tanto sueño. Saludos
JAJAJA!! Me pasa exactamente lo mismo- 'un capítulo más, sólo uno!- (siempre terminan el capítulo con suspense y te enganchan a ver el siguiente). Y luego efectivamente veo que sólo me quedan 5 horas para dormir. (Cuando a mí me gusta dormir unas 8). Yo cuando no tengo sueño, finjo, y pretendo que estoy durmiendo, y me acabo durmiendo de verdad, pero tardo un rato.
Buena expresión que has usado ahí! Ponerse las pilas! Aunque he de admitir que una vez más he publicado este vídeo justo en la fecha límite, no antes jajaja, a ver si cambio.
Y el pomodoro tienes razón, depende de la carga de trabajo yo también hago sesiones de trabajo más largas porque si hago sólo 30 minutos, no termino en la vida.

Hola Laura. Lo que me aiuda mas es tener una lista de cosas por acer en un dia y tener una actividad que me gusta hacer por la tarde cuando termino de trabajar.
"To Do" lists can get to be overwhelming. You see 20 things on a list and you toss it and go have a bowl of ice cream . . .
The upgrade from a To-Do list is the Schedule.
Take that list and put each item in a time slot on a weekly calendar.
The psychology of it is that by continually looking at the calendar during the week, you
keep seeing the upcoming events while you are doing the current ones.
By seeing "Edit video" in the 3 p.m. Wednesday slot, for example, since Sunday, by the time Wed at 3 rolls around your mind has subconsciously gotten itself ready for that task.
An added tip is to review the next day's events before going to bed. It helps your mind prepare for what's coming the next day.
And you never know how a dream may help your approach to the next day's tasks . . .

I know this video is old but the method I use for getting things done is the paperclip method. You get two jars and fill one with paperclips (i use beads), and when you complete a task, such as 30 minutes of work, you move one paperclip to the other jar. This give you a simple and tangible view of your progress, which is very motivating.
i love so much that you speak at a fast pace but it isn't out of control. I have been listening to the news in spanish and I get so lost in the speed of the reporters

Lo es increíble como un poco contexto puede ayudar con entendiendo. Yo entiendo quizás 30 - 50% de este video. Pero cuando tu dijiste “Pomodoro”, de pronto entiendé 70% de que hablaste. Porque yo lo sé de pomodoro, y tuvé más contexto. Además, cuando dijiste “en lo más profundo de tu mente” y apuntaste atrás de tu cabeza, este lo me dio bastante contexto a ayudarme entender la frase. Creí que eso fue muy interesante. Gracias por estes videos!

Hola Laura! Excelente video! Me pasa exactamente lo mismo que a tí. Trabajar bien bajo presión y hacer otras actividades pero no ser capaz de disfrutarlo tal vez al 100%.
La técnica del Pomodoro es muy buena. 30/30 es mucho descanso para mí, jaja, pero si te sirve a ti eso es lo que importa! Antes hacía 25/5... Una forma más extrema es hacer los llamados "dopamine detox", pero es fuerte. Creo que el video que vi se llamaba "how to trick your brain to do hard things". Si lo ves/n, me comentan que piensan. Lo puedo resumir pero creo que no le haría justicia!
Si!! :( Es como una maldición! Quiero ver un capítulo tranquila, pero mi subconsciente no me deja. Estoy segura de que si me lo quitara de encima al principio, luego viviría una vida mucho más feliz.

I’m trying to understand your spoken Spanish for the English words I’m concurrently reading (with close captions). I will follow your suggestion to watch again and again. And I will look up Spanish words that you say that I don’t already know. Thank goodness there are not toooooo many!
My initial goal will be to understand you without my relying upon the English closed captions. My second goal will then be to understand you at 100% speed. Then I will go through the same process on your other videos. ¿Is this a good plan, or do you recommend another course of action?

you should watch easier videos, and without english subtitles. having english subtitles will distract you from understanding the Spanish (you will translate in your head instead of understanding instantly)

Evitar procrastinando es una destreza, como otras destrezas. Si practicas, mejoras. No es un tipo de personalidad pero un hábito
la problema es que no puedo enfocar(no sé si estoy usando la palabra correcta) hasta el ultimo minuto, aún sin todas las distracciones, mi mente se va a otro mundo.

Laura, I think that I am going to suggest that my 28 Facebook friends & family meet you & I'm not sure how to introduce you (?)... did you say you have some Instagram material too? ...something to share with everyone. I don't think anyone in the group speaks Spanish. At not quite 100 years old it's a little late for me, & the adult family and friends may not be interested, but maybe a few of the mom-dad- mentors can offer their children some language learning opportunity. It just seems like I should suggest that learning some (more) Spanish language seems like a good idea & something English speakers really should consider. Your children's books and maybe the puzzle assembly presentation seem so good, to me, that I might suggest checking out those presentations for starters... & the random words / cat and dog story - very nice, it seems like most all of your work has been very good. I'm reading some of your presentation notes, etc., and applaud your efforts. Professor Laura "you're perfect" & I think you are sharing something special that could appeal to a broad group of young and old language learners. I'm slowly working on a way I can share your efforts... Wonder what that YT SHARE button does? There is a trick i do called the 5-minutes trick i tell myself to study for just 5 minutes to get my self started and that's for me the hard part to get started
And also i have been experimenting with changing the environment around me like distractions and social media and limiting my usage of them

No tengo un nuevo método. Uso la aplicación Forest con el método de Pomodoro.
Se planta una planta/árbol virtual. Si abro (?) cualquier otra aplicación mientras la planta está creciendo y el tiempo no está terminado mi árbol muere.
Obtienes monedas después de plantar un árbol con éxito.
Con las monedas se puede comprar otras plantas/árboles o con suficientes monedas se puede dejar plantar un árbol real.
Me gusta la idea de la aplicación!! A lo mejor me la descargo y la pruebo!! Suena muy bien! Especialmente la parte en la que, si tienes suficientes monedas, se puede plantar un árbol real! Gracias por la recomendación!! :)
