    Toy Biz were, for a time, one of the hottest labels in action figures. Scoring the coveted Marvel license in the 90s allowed them unlimited freedom to create plastic versions of the X-Men, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man and a slew of others, all tied in with a stream of animated shows that would bring the comic world to more prominence.
    This continued with the first incarnation of Marvel Legends, a 6" scale version of everything that had come before, to cater to the same kids, now grown up with incomes and a continued hankering for all things Marvel.

    I remember paying $12 for Toy Biz's figures which included accessories and a comic, yet now it costs $20 for Hasbro's figures with no comic and sometimes no accessories.

      They were also a ton of paint washes applications which some of them lack now. Also remember their productions runs are prob not as big cause kids play with electronics. So a smaller production makes for a higher price. Remember the 2 for 10 bucks at KB Toys?

      +alejandromolinac i soooo remember THOSE days.... Sheeesh, the kids of today dont have shit.. btw, im 36 and ACTUALLY had most if not all of marvel toy biz's action figures

    • @alejandromolinac
      @alejandromolinac 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HAHAHAH, I am 36 as well! I remember almost all sci-fi TV shows and cartoons had a toy line, almost every movie also had an action figure line. I think the last full fledged movie line with several waves of the actual movie characters was the first Fantastic 4 movie... Remember the Lord of the Rings line? And we were the generation that saw McFarlane make the coolest toys... Too bad now he was this weird obsession with Statues that just collect dust at Toys R Us...

      +alejandromolinac sooooo TRUE......had anime spawn,techno spawn, spawn where u lift his right arm and it light up(press the skull and his cape wings spread out). gosh, the list goes on and on with my collection... you really have my thinking about my childhood... i miss it....

    It was a blast collecting the ToyBiz Marvel Legends figures! They had so much value for a fair price. Super sized BAFs and a comic book reprint to read.
    It all went down with Hasbro's takeover. Now we have half the availability but twice the price ToyBiz had, which is strange considering Hasbo having a strong presence here in Germany.

    • @ActionFigureResource
      @ActionFigureResource  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BenTenpenny yes, and the same with the Kenner toys. Unfortunately they pretty much have a stranglehold on the toy industry and licenses these days

    • @BenTenpenny
      @BenTenpenny 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ActionFigureResource I must say though that Hasbro did a pretty good job with the Star Wars Figures during the Clone Wars era, up until the time Disney took over.
      Now the cheaply made 5-points of articulation are 15€ here in Germany, while the 3.75" Black Series are rare and even more expensive.

    I'll always love TB ML figures over Hasbro ML figures. Hasbro gives us no comic, few accessories, no stand or unique character base, but tons of recycled body molds. If I was to get a dollar for every recycled Bucky Cap mold Hasbro makes for their figures , I'd have enough to collect the whole TB ML series. TB ML has nicer paint work, body molds, sculpt, and for the most part did not recycle body molds over and over again like Hasbro does. But as for the female ML figures, Hasbro wins, by far. LoL. Not to say that I dislike ML Hasbro. I just prefer TB ML more.

    I'm not a big comic reader, but the thing I've noticed about X-Men is it's got (in my opinion) way too many characters and only a few them have appeared in the cartoons and the movies!

    At 4:05 you mention the Image 7 and show a recent picture. However this can be confusing to people not familiar with them, as Jim Lee is missing and Robert Kirkman is present. And at 7:20 the Galactus and Silver Surfer shown are not Toy Biz Marvel Legends, those are Hasbro Marvel Universe.

  • @chevy-is-a-good-boy

    Their early, simpler 5 POA toys seem to be ageing more gracefully than their Marvel Legends line. There's a certain charm to those basic '90s toys, where as the later more articulated figures come across as dated and ugly these days.

    • @ActionFigureResource
      @ActionFigureResource  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's mainly down to the nostalgia in time I think the Legends will rise also.

    I never get to experience toys from ToyBiz. But from what I've seen from reviews, they are better than Hasbro. Take Doc Ock for example, ToyBiz went their way making the four arms on his back soft plastic with wireframes in each of them while Hasbro on the other hand make the arms on Doc Ock a hard plastic.

    • @ActionFigureResource
      @ActionFigureResource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, Toy Biz are sorely missed. Unfortunately Hasbro swallowed up most of the smaller companies.
