    The full scale F-86 & F-100 Sabres also had that stall characteristic, called the "Sabre Dance", I bet you already knew about it. I experienced the same stall with the Great Planes micro F-86 - from a too weak hand launch, it hovered nose up, then flipped over backward, so I kept full throttle and tried to complete the loop, but needed about 1 more foot of altitude. Now it's another foam F-86 with a slightly crinkled nose!

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ModelAV8RChannel I expect they have more UMX in the pipeline using this new power system, hoping for an F-4, probably wouldn’t be their best choice, but would sell a lot of replacement foam! Might try to shoehorn this rec/esc/fan into my UMX Habu, and reinforce the wings!

  • @jayaustin3096

    Great review as always. Not trying to be negative, but do you remember the old rubber band planes back in the 70s. All balsa wood. So tough. These umx planes are so brittle but so fun to fly. I don't like the epc foam at all. To easy to brake. I feel these planes are for more experienced pilots that can land a plane perfectly everytime. Whats your thoughts on the brittle foam that umx planes are constructed from. I know the 250 gram limit. I thought you would be the guy to ask. The old school balsa rubber band planes were way tougher. Thanks. Your my man.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Jay, thanks man. So, its a trade off. They did make a UMX trainer (Apprentice STOL) out of EPO specifically to be tougher. The others are EPS because it is lighter than EPO, and at this size every gram counts. They are focused on the 250g limit now, but they have always tried to make them as light as they can so they fly better, and that is most important. Any foam shows hangar rash...or flying rash, lol...more than balsa planes do. Just the nature of the beast. When it comes to breaking to the point of not flyable without a repair I've seen these UMX planes take quite the wallop and still fly (See our UMX Timber X Challenge episode, poor plane). That said yes, they do show the wear more than a balsa plane. The up side is they are less expensive to produce and purchase, and they fly very good. You're right, if keeping them pristine is what a person wants, then yes...good landing skills will help. Thankfully, those skills can be learned and honed.

    Hi Adam.
    Your videos are becoming the go-to-first option for many in the hobby now. Including me. Your professionalism and clear comments are what many want these days. Keep up the good work. It is much appreciated.
    Anyhow, I live in Samoa so getting anything RC can be a bit of a challenge. I will be getting the UMX F-86 once it becomes available in the southern hemisphere.
    I don't have any batteries that are IC2 but do have ones with xt30 and JST connectors. Maybe a silly question but can I replace the ESC IC2 plug with a JST or XT30 plug without causing any problems?
    Finally, do you know what the F8-6 ESC/Receiver maximum amperage would be? I've tried to search this but cannot find any info.
    Thank you again and hope to receive your reply.
    Peter

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Peter, thanks very much for the kind words! Glad our channel is helpful, we try. Samoa, wow! Right in the middle of the Pacific. On the ESC the leads coming off the board are short, about an inch. That said if you're good at soldering you could solder a different connector on, or just use one of the adapters (JST to IC2) we show in the vid. I don't know what the max amp rating for the ESC is. I've looked at the telemetry but I can't remember (I fly WAY to many different planes, Lol). You'll enjoy the F-86, just make sure you don't put that pack all the way forward.

    Excellent flying & review as usual, Adam! Just a note - the pre-AS3X Beast & UMX Sbach (before the UMX Beast 3D & Sbach 3D) were the 1st 2s bl UMX planes. The MiG didn't come out 'til a bit later, after AS3X was the norm in the UMX world. BTW - I still have my original UMX MiG. Still in decent shape, but I haven't flown her since 2015. Not sure if you've ever watched the vid - but check out my comparisons of the pre-AS3X UMX Beast vs the AS3X-equipped UMX Beast 3D in a ~19 MPH wind. Also, my UMX Sbach 3D on 3s has a fair amount of Doppler-shift when she goes by on a low WOT pass. 😎

    A great review of a lovely looking UMX. If I was in the market for one, I'd seriously consider it, especially with the SAFE launch mode. Putting 4S is is awesome (albeit I'd be straight in there with a soldering iron and XT30/XT60). My little quibble, made a few times already I know, is that I have no idea what 6oz is so spent the review wondering if it was under 250g AUW or not. Your non-USA viewers would really appreciate it if you also state the metric weights of these models.
