RTJ IS THE BEST IN DIRT LATE MODEL RACING.
How the hell can be say the team isn't going in the direction he thought? How much winning have they done already this year? How much winning have they done the last several years? The hell?
@@sweetdaddydee1314 I believe his win total last season was 59 and RTJ has 19 wins so far this season with 16 of those Lucas oil series wins.
This move is purely to put Todd and Vicky’s daughter’s boyfriend in the car. Ricky is a better driver, period.

The direction he wanted must have been for RTJ to stop winning so he could hire his fellow Indiana boy, but it didn't happen, so he got tired if waiting. Hell, I don't know. Doesn't make a lot of sense. If Burroughs leaves too, they've got a long row to hoe.

I was at Muskingum helping my buddy on his super late. We were pitted directly across from SSI, and we saw Mark Richards over there talking on about 3 separate occasions. Makes ya wonder 🤔
I doubt RTJ will go to a rocket. Unless Briggs let's him use one in the interm.

@@xJenko Yeah I feel that, I just think it's too much control with Richard's and I just can't see him driving the house car with everything he does. Obviously the Rocket car is a honor to drive, but it comes with a whole other set of headaches for most.
It sounds like RTJ said or did something that the car owner was not willing to tolerate.

Crazy season what a lot of people didn't think about was Thornton walked away with just his helmet and uniform no Hauler no trailer no cars motors everything else it's like if you don't catch a ride with someone that can afford to do stuff you're going to struggle to make it on your own if you're going to let somebody go you should at least give him a week's notice instead of having to race a very next day hopefully Ricky can keep his crew imagine there's a lot of people wanting to hire his crew good luck Ricky and his crew

Back in the 1990's retired sprint car legend, Gary Wright drove a car sponsored by COMPUSA, a computer store. Gary had always run his own deal and had been successful. I don't know if it is true or not. But, I heard Gary lost the ride because it made money and it was supposed to be a tax loss. That was the story.

If I'm someone like Donny Schatz, I'd try my absolute hardest to get RTJ in the seat of my super late model for as long as possible moving forward. Yes Ik that his nieces drive it from time to time and they could still, however they are also dividing their focus onto sprint cars so maybe that wouldn't be that big of an issue. I know that there are a ton more issues, logistics, and potential conflicts that could prevent an RTJ driving for Schatz, but man I think it would be an insane partnership with incredible outcomes for both parties, especially if they could follow several series full time.
@Bennettgrabey this is the best dirt late model driver in the world he's not getting into Donny Schatz's winter hobby car lol. He's in the rumley 6 tonight.
Winter hobby car??? Lol yeah sure, not like it still doesn't have the best parts available...... Just a thought that everyone should be fighting for him to get in their rides and thought that Schatz's could be an awesome fit for all us fans to enjoy.
You know news is huge when it takes up the entire monday daily after a weekend with PA Speedweek wrapping up, Ballou shenanigans, LOLMDS, STSS, all that stuff. My personal conspiracy theory is that someone in the SSI shop actually played the music group RTJ (great duo IMO too), hated it so much, that they fired Ricky so they'd never have to think about the music again.
Wow! I'm stunned. That's like Brad Sweet getting fired by Kasey Kane on the sprint car side. What in the world could RTJ have done that pissed his owner off that badly???

This is why there needs to be some type of contracts in dirt track racing.

When things like this happen I can only think back to this past off-season when the owner of the 25 Sprint car threw a hissy fit on fb because Lauchlan McCue decided he didn't want to run a full season. These handshake agreements work both ways, but owners don't want to admit that.

I think for the short time Rumley is where he will be. After that i Think cooney motorsports would be in my top pick with the wells chassis, long shots would be paylor, Sheppard Riggs

I doubt it. Perfect is the enemy of good enough. McCreadie is getting his legs under him after switching to Rocket and having to repeat that process with RTJ this far in the season wouldn't make sense.
This has to be a money issue. Literally the only thing I could think of, RTJ doesn’t bring any big name sponsors does he? Money or political beliefs could get the leader of points fired and that’s about it…

O’Neal is 10 years younger than RTJ and of the same quality. Maybe it is a long term move.
When somebody is winning like Ricky Thorton has been doing and gets fired, somebody is sick up and fed with the BS.
@@CM-ve1bz O Neil and RTJ are not the same quality drivers. Not even close. Hudsy played the championship game and won, but RTJ mopped up the entire year.
We'll find out soon enough though for sure when the SSI cars finishes fall off a cliff

Only 2 guys were any real threat to Thorton last year and O’Neal was one of them.
I have to agree with Larson and Wallace concerning drivers. There’s hundreds of drivers out there just as good as RTJ, but you’ll never know their names because the opportunities are so limited. RTJ is very good, but he’s not the end all.
I would bet Ricky Thorton’s winning percentage drops off more than SSI, assuming the crew chief stays with the car.
The only thing that could top this in the world of motorsports would be Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull in Formula 1.

I watched like 3 or 4 of the PA soeedweeks races on Flo. Not sure why though, not a fan of the big tracks

This really makes you think and wonder as to what happened behind the scene to warrant and instant firing. I can think of a few things that force an owner to do something this drastic, but I don't want to speculate. Now that SSI is in the driver market, I could see them putting a young driver in the seat. I can see someone like Troutman or Clay Harris in that car. Who would you all like to see in the car?
From everything I read on 4m. TTJ is at least 1/2 to 3/4 second better driver than anyone on the planet so he could probably win in an 06 Masterbilt

Who knows the reasons behind the split and it’s highly unlikely it’ll ever be made completely public but this is a head scratcher. There isn’t another drive SSI is going to hire that is going to win even a fraction of the races RTJ has. I’m sure there’s reasons but is is just bonkers to me 🤷🏻🥴

Kenny's a NASCAR schill. He says NASCAR the only place a driver can make money legitimately in racing because in dirt racing you need a "sugar daddy". Meanwhile ALL the NASCAR teams have come out and said they're nowhere close to profitable. They all lose well into the seven figures annually despite some teams having multi-million sponsorship plus NASCAR distributing millions to the teams from the TV deal.
My guess is Todd Cooney will pick up RTJ…
