  • I recently picked up a Monotron Duo at Knobcon X. I now have all 3 Monotrons: Duo, Delay, & Original. I decided to compare the 3 of them in case anyone is looking to purchase one. They're all similar but each one has a different trick up it's sleeve.

A hidden features of all of the monotrons is that the back of the circuit boards have clearly labeled solder pads on on the most interesting points to make them easy to mod.

I'm glad it was helpful! That's why I make these vids. For what they cost they're all pretty darn useful. I have to say the Delay is my fave but it's really hard to play recognizable notes on it so it's usually relegated to an effect.

Fabulous review! I own a Delay and Duo, given to me as a X-mas present about 5 years ago.
I used the Delay as a generator of spacey sound effects over a small electronic live performance by me at the local art academy.

Cool comparison vid! I really like the Delay but I have the Duo as well, I should fool around with the Duo a bit more than I have. I still need to get an original Monotron, well I don't need one really but it bugs me that I'm missing one.

Awesome video as always. Could you tell me where you bought the cable you used to pick up the sound of the Korg ? And what model it is ? I read that putting the wrong kind of cable in the headphones jack can damage the synth so I'd rather be careful when trying to send it into an amplifier. Thank you !

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for checking out the video. The cable is a Hosa CMP-153. You can buy them pretty much anywhere (Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Amazon, etc). It has 1/8" stereo on one end and dual 1/4" mono jacks on the other.

    very cool
My life partner gave me a garage sale Yamaha PSR-77 that she had for years. I put d cell batteries in it and it works. So we have ordered a power supply. At an antique mall yesterday I bought a line 6 lowdown ld15 bass amp. WOW the difference that makes in my canjo is mind blowing.
So between the two I have lots of things to figure out. I have down loaded the manuals for both and am starting to read them. We will see where we can go from here.
Bottom line... Thank you for all the help

For me it is a good place to start.
I have a wine bottle box with a sliding lid that I am going to put one of the preamps from C. B. Gitty in I am also planning on get a bass fuzz peddle kit and putting it in the box also. I hope to figure out how to wire them together trough a 3 way switch.

Is it possible to make a whole album just based off the instruments or would it only be used for effects?

    • @musicalmiscellany

    • @musicalmiscellany

Thanks for checking out the video. I have a separate video about the differences here: th-cam.com/video/rCuX1jRCzKw/w-d-xo.html
In short, even though they're similar, they have very different controls. Each one does something well. If you're looking to do just that thing, then having all 3 is probably redundant. However, if you want to do a lot of different things with a Monotron, you might want more than 1.
