Thank You, I was searching all over TH-cam for any info. about puritans since I had an assignment about them, and then I found your video out of nowhere that just happened to have the information I needed.
they were called puritans because they wanted englands church to be purified they didnt struggle like other colonies because they were to be as a city on a hill, to set an example natives views of land differed from puritans because natives thought the land belonged to all but the puritans had a clear idea of what they wanted the colony broke up due to a shortage of land, people not following puritan law, and fights among themselves which established smaller communities yes i agree with john winthrops city on a hill speech thank you The Daily Bellringer
Hey man, awesome video. I'm very intrigued by the influence of puritanism on American History and society. Is there a particular book you could recommend?
The narrative being that the puritans settled in America to find religious freedom is BS; they went there because they *couldn't* persecute non-puritans enough in England. The religious freedom sickened them
The Puritans were the best thing that ever happened to America. Tocqueville though Catholic has high praises for these first Americans who "went with their families into the wilderness." Roger Williams was "crack brained." Also, Bell Ringer is advised to read John Fiske on King Philip's war. The war was not fought over land. Philip was bad to the bone. The Bay Colony was America's first mega church. If you did not like their way of doing things you were free to move on.
The pilgrims settled America first..10 years later the Puritans arrived and eventually the two groups united..both pilgrims and Puritans can be said to have founded this country on religious principles
They weren't persecuted. Thats the big lie underneath it all. They were zealots, and they weren't tolerated. A subtle distinction that makes a huge difference.
Thanks bellringer . Boy am I glad the identity politicians weren't around to argue in the courts with the church of England about this lame excuse for Puritan exsistence . 4:54 and all is still well

My grandmother died in March. I guess she was related to Palmers and Dudley.
Sorry for your loss, very interesting family ancestry.
Hi
Stop watching mean girls in class
I was hoping this video would tell the origins of the puritans (England) like how it started.
Dang it's almost like when you compromise your order, it falls apart

"The Puritans were the best thing that ever happened to America."
Not sure Native Americans would agree...
God shows no favoritism

You missed something. They accused people they disliked of witchcraft and burned them to death
Puritans kind of remind me of twitter users.

Mate, #JohnBunyan was imprisoned. Sounds like persecution to me. 12 years for preaching without a license? Are you kidding ?

Christopher Levett is a curiosity to be understood

the puritans are very grumpy and are probably very mean.
I think #Hawthorne's version of Puritanism won in the popular imagination, but he wrote fiction.
Do whites know their history and where they come from......
Thank you for this informative presentation - but surely the persecution and leadership of Anne Hutchinson belongs in here.
