While Cassius has become the official unit of measurement for badassery across Zemuria, there is only one who can truly rival him: whoever came up with the turbo mode.
Amount of people simping for Cassius is so high! Easily could get a harem (like Lloyd). Just shows that he was so faitful to Estelles mom, that stayed single after her death. Just like Iroh (from ATLA). WHY badasses in trails games keep losing wives and they must raise a child (Arios joins the club)? There is a timeline, where Joshua kills Estelle at end of SC and he must rise up Renne (we know there is to some extent parallel realities, like at the beginning of Zero).
Just want to say if you are here in the comments, thank you so much for checking out this video. I actually went back to college the same week this game released, and it also has been probably the hardest term I've had in college for a bit. It took me a month just to edit this video and I really hope this video was worth the wait for you all. If you all would like to see smaller Trails videos on other canon content such as "Trails From Zero: Ring of Judgement," "Leowe monogatari", or the novels such as back alley doctor glenn, please let me know in the comments. You all are the best, let me know what you thought of the video, and your thoughts on Zero here in the comments. :)
I just beat Trails from Zero and am playing Azure-I immediately loved the series. I would recommend the TH-cam recap of the Sky trilogy by Lady Virgilia - because of Sky not being ported to anything practical for me, those recaps were perfect to get me adjusted before I started my play through of Zero. I’m going all in and playing all of the rest of them, though! I enjoyed your recap; it’s great to hear from someone who loves something even more than you do to gain more perspective and learn!
lol the part about cooking being broken reminds me of how I back tracked through the whole last dungeon collecting colorful tomato burgers and save scumming to get king burgers because the last boss on nightmare was incredibly hard.
I am in the middle of zero after finishing the sky trilogy last year and the first months of ‘24 and your sky retrospect is really great !I’ll continue to watch your videos as I get further.
Honestly he was kind of amazing. Going from TH-camr to this super talented localization editor. I'm glad he got to live his dream, sad he couldn't do it longer. Massive blow to this fanbase.
Chilling I never knew, I binged a lot of his old videos yesterday. I hope he’s resting easy now, may he be remembered for the amazing work he did. Wonderful video as always.
You gained an instant sub for just mentioning starforce and Zero is the trails game i started with and my favourite so far, although i'm playing reverie so i have yet to see if i'll like it more But the IBC bank raid just made Zero my 2nd favourite game of all time Edit: Is that Brisingr?? Wow, its been years since i've even seen anyone even mention it
Yo nice, hope you're enjoying the series! I don't think you should be playing Reverie at all unless you've played basically the whole series LOL it is kind of spoiler city and kind of the wrap up game for Zero -> Cold Steel 4. Yeah that shot was a reused gag from my Trails in the Sky video lol. I don't have a lot of books lying around, and it was one of the larger ones for that gag. I did like Eragon back in the day. Thanks for watching! Yeah idunno if you played any other Trails games yet outside of Zero and a little of Reverie, but I really do recommend the Sky series, and Azure is the direct sequel to this game and it's my favorite.
@@GenmaTheSamurai no no I started from crossbell then went to Sky then CS. Reverie is the only western release i haven't finished yet Azure was great as well, but I prefer Zero for being a tiny bit more down to earth I usually just count both as one long game
@@sidharthbommineni7780 ah okay 😅 was being sure. You never know you run across some wild players every once in a while. Glad you liked the video! Hope you enjoy Reverie! I tend to lean towards the more action packed games myself, but Zero seems to appeal to both crowds pretty well. Zero was my third-favorite until I played Reverie :)
You’re videos are criminally underviewed. What I wouldn’t give for Trails to have a wider audience. NIS and Sony need to put more behind the marketing, but at this point they probably don’t even know how to market it. Kuro is there best chance with the very vague allusions to past events it’s the most standalone game since Sky 1. And Sky 1 is barely standalone with the massive cliffhanger at the end.
Thanks for the comments! And really glad you like my vids 😅🙇♂️ Yeah I mean, tbf I think this series would be hard to market in a lot of ways, since every new games increasingly becomes less accessible to new players. Also Xseed still owns the rights to Sky, and I definitely see NIS likely wanting to push their games over Sky and CS1&2.
RE: Renne - so Daybreak was my first Trails game and where I first got introduced to Renne and her role there was super interesting, but as it was my first game, mysterious. It absolutely did not ruin Daybreak as that became my favorite game ever and inspired me to play more trails. I only have a Switch so I could only go back as far as Zero. And look who showed up! Since I never played Sky, the Renne subplot plays out like a prequel, but even there she’s still mysterious. The Renne subplot did not overshadow the main nor did it make it hard to follow. It just felt like these 2 bracers Estelle & Joshua were on this quest to find Renne for reasons, but for Lloyd, Renne was just this mysterious girl who was curious about Lloyd’s journey, ESPECIALLY after the SSS & her had a quest together. I didn’t need Sky. Zero kept me intrigued about Renne. And one day I’ll get the PRE-prequel when I get a different device and finally learn her “origin story” completely and discover Estelle & Joshua’s journey. Just thought you’d be interested to hear a different perspective of someone playing in a very different order.
So worth mentioning war isn't actively happening at this part of the story, but Crossbell's situation makes them very easily manipulated by it's surrounding countries. Very political situation here lol, especially in Azure, but they handle it really well.
You could say that it resembles Poland, but only politically, to me, Liberl is akin to England, why with having a Queen and defeating "Germany" with the clever use of air forces, and Crosbell is akin to the Alsacia and Lorena region in what is today Northern France, having a lot of natural resources, this region was always contended by 2 of Europe's long lasting superpowers, Germany and France, even switching sides every now and then, meaining it was at times part of Prussia, other times part of France, as it is today. Also you could trace paralels between the demilitarization of Crosbell, with the Treaty of Versailles, which demilitarized the southern provinces of Germany that were part of the Rhur region, which borders Alsacia. This treaty, exacerbated what was known as the 'German Problem' until it could not be contained and was one of the reasons for the invasion of Poland and the start of WW2. Now, this is an extremely rushed explanation on my end and I have taken a million liberties since the complexities of all of this are still studied in higher education centers all over the world, but if you look hard enough and kinda squint your eyes a bit (a lot actually), it is there! Now, having played Kuro no Kiseki, Calvard is very French. They even have an 'Eiffel' tower in their capital and the district's names are french. Erebonia is like if Germany never stopped being the Prussian Empire and Crosbell is smack dab in the middle of them, like the Alsacia region. Crosbell politically resembles Poland to an extent, and geographically resembles Alsacia & Lorena, also to an extent.
I played the translated Evo version of this game on my Vita, and oh boy, what a ride! Sure, it didn't beat Sky 3rd Evo on the ammount of voice lines (which was the whole game, no exceptions), but it was definetely better than the original PSP release.
One of the best parts of finishing a Trails game is that I can watch your video about it afterwards. :) Speaking of mods. I was glad that I've played the PC version with the Evolution quests... cause god damn, there is a quest with a Tio and a certain mascot that needs to be experienced. I was just smiling from ear to ear the whole time. ^^ And man... every time I see/hear "The game is broken with this ability. If you use this, it trivializes the game." Meanwhile, I never touched the skill even once, cause I always prefer to buff my party (if if it's a small buff) instead of a single char. But yeah, the game in general is such a treat and I'm so glad I started with the Sky trilogy... made me shed some heavy man-tears at some points. And maybe it's just me, but it's super weird how I feel nostalgia for games I've basically beaten the last weeks. I smile every time when I recognize a certain NPC... or a green vehicle that's parked in the background, that you only see when doing a specific sidequest. Now I'm playing Azure, while being late to the party, I'm looking forward to your video about it. :)
19:27 True... but it only does it at the end of the game... and it's a closure we all deserved to recieve from Nihon Falcom. That was a very moving scene... I love these games!!!
I finished the sky arc and I'm 30 hours into Zero. I took a break to try chained echoes and I couldn't deal with the writing and characters... Trails games are so deep and we'll written that they ruin other jrpgs for you.
Lol I wouldn't say that's happened to me, but it definitely is the most impressive with it's world building. Really enjoying Tales of the Abyss rn (different series, similar name lol.) Also enjoying Persona 4 atm.
The one gripe I have with all of crossbell is actually the user interface. Due to the games originally coming out for the psp, the ui is rather chunky and it just feels cluttered to me, compared to sky's ui that originally came out for the PC and it obviously takes far better advantage of the given screen space. It's a weird feeling thing, I feel more comfortable playing trails in the sky when I have to menu around for that reason
Okay so, as someone that has played on consoles and handhelds my entire life rather than PC, it might be why I actually prefer this UI. Especially in regards to S-Crafts. I think that just comes down to preference though, you're not the first person I've seen with that take. Again, I just prefer the more console-standard UI in this case. You can also make the UI in fights smaller on PC and Switch for both Azure and Zero, I just personally think the larger UI looks better.
@@GenmaTheSamuraiyeah I was about tok come back to say that sky's ui is actually rather tricky to navigate with a controller. When I played the sky games, I played them like 80% only using the mouse. It actually feels incredible using the mouse, you use the scroll wheel to scroll through the menus or you drag it to move the characters and stuff, it's definitely optimised for that. Also, using 1 2 3 and 4 on the keyboard to cast sbreaks made it really easy to do so too
@@GenmaTheSamurai Generally I play trails with a controller too, but if it's for sky, I'll use the mouse and the kb a bit, it just feels a lot better for sky to navigate around. For instance, a good example for that is bringing up the menu itself. With the mouse you just mouse over to the top of the screen.
Agreed. I played through all of Sky using mouse only, no need for keyboard at all, and it was great. Was a bit disappointed to find Zero could not be played the same way despite being the same engine. A minor gripe on a great game though.
I was kinda surprised you omitted the buffs and ailments in your section about the new combat mechanics. In Sky, buff, debuff and ailment durations ran on an invisible timer that was detached from the speed stat, meaning that at the start of the game, buffs ran out almost immediately upon applying, but as the game went on and both your party and enemies built up higher speed stats and got more turns per "round", they started lasting longer and longer and by the end of the game, a single cast of Clock Up Ex and Zodiac would usually carry you through an entire boss fight. Also, buffs overwrote each other, so if you used Zin's True Distend skill to buff his strength by 60% and then he got caught in Estelle's Morale AOE (which raises attack by 20%), he'd actually be weakened. Finally, stat buffs and stat debuffs didn't override each other, so it was possible to see a character under the effect of a Strength buff AND a Strength debuff at the same time and you had no idea whether the result was a net positive or negative. Crossbell revamped this system by tying the duration of buffs, debuffs and ailments to a set number of turns, multiple buffs stack instead of overriding each other (or simply reset the number of turns left) and buffs and debuffs cancel each other out. This made debuffs like speed down extremely powerful, especially combined with AT Delay, but also hit buffs like Clock Up and especially Fortuna with a massive nerf bat, because they'd run out extremely quickly, especially because in Crossbell, casting an art counted as two turns in terms of duration, meaning that you could cast Fortuna to buff your ATS, throw out one superpowered attack art and then you'd be unable to recast the ATS buff before it ran out. (Azure tried to ameliorate this by having Fortuna give you 5 rounds of buffed ATS instead of 3, but it wasn't until Cold Steel that the game stopped counting the charging turn of an art as a separate turn) The new system made buffs a much bigger pain to maintain, but it did help to make ailment and debuff durations less opaque.
Yeah I guess the thing with that is parts of that felt like a simple QoL and I already kinda had a bit of an overcomplicated explanation (and I have plenty of other stuff to discuss next time.) I guess the big thing is there are definitely a whole lot of changes, possibly too much to explain in a single video so I appreciate you adding this. Thanks for this comment :)
