@user-uk3nx8cn4u Hey guy, I'm happy with my life here in Russia, but I also enjoy speaking my native language sometimes. I speak Russian with my friends (mostly) and family here daily, also yeah, I like to speak to my former countrymen sometimes after living here for years. That's totally normal coming from someone who came to Russia for the values and to build their own life here.
@@Eli-tj3ve There ae a lot of us, I know about 50 families who moved to Russia from the US or who met their spouse in Russia. I live in St Petersburg in the city center, for 24 years..I am not married so do not have family here and would have loved to find someone.. I moved from California which every one here and there thought I was crazy. I had worked all my life and had successful businesses and worked in my own businesses since age 13... I worked all the time supporting my assets and toys. Americans self medicate their lack of connection and values by buying things which end up owning them. Few have a real life, not 1 iin 10,000 Americans have ever experience great opera or ballet, none is free of debt. Not just debt but subscriptions such as $120 a month for internet, about the same for a phone they never own outright, I needed 9 different types of insurance that was $2200 a month, 4 layers of taxes...federal state, country and city tax. My income was high but after paying 100 bills a month. Water bill was $1000 a month because their was a drought and the water district was trying to buy access to a reservoir in the mountains 230 km away and had to pay for a canal. We were restricted to mist shower, not using any water outside the home so the swimming pool cracked due to no water weighting it into the grown so repairs to that was $72,000. I had many cars I collected and restored and even if not driven each needed to be registered and insured based on their value even if never driven, so that was $80,000 a year.. The natural gas bill was extremely high because the gas company was scammed in a national criminals conspiracy with connections to government crooks, where a politically connected scam artist took over natural gas distribution for several states and it all collapsed so the local state gas company had to cover billions of stole money so they turned around and charged every home owner. My share for just one my houses, even though I used almost not gas since my main home was mostly solar powered, was $1000 a month for one house but I has 6 housed but they were in regions that were not impacted,, but still in California. My basic cost of living in my main home was $23,000 a month!! It was in the 1990s so it is likely much more now. At the end of 1999,, 51 years old, no wife, I said my quality of life was poor although people thought I was living a great life but working to pay the costs of the businesses and having only a daughter 1000km away. lots of dating options with gold-diggers, a term that describes most single females in California, they will only date wealthy guys because of what they can get out of it. Normal men have little options to even get a date now, all the younger women will only date wealthy men because the the girls are looking for financial advantage because the cost of living is so high
I had traveled a lot, 92 countries and visited Russia/USSR starting in 1976 and fell in love with Leningrad so I hatched a crazy plan, I wanted move here at the end of 1999 so over a single month I planned my escape and got my legal team and accounts together and told them I was to get rid of very thing and was to start fresh with little or no money, and owe nothing to anyone..taxes, bills subscriptions nothing for the 12 businesses.. I went to each business and got the employees in a meeting and told them if they liked their job, they needed to form a corporation so everyone owned a share of the business based on how long they worked for my.
It took 2 weeks longer than expected and some wanted out thinking they did not want to be an owner. he most profitable business known internationally was a top recording studio where we recorded 197 gold and platinum award albums you all know dating from 1972 to 1994. It was a very successful 3 studio complex
Some were small businesses like a women's shoe store that only featured high heels, an elegant dress store, a shop that restored Italian GTs models from the 1950s to 1980s, mostly classic Maserati of which I owned 36 of them.. Another business that repaired and installed 2 way communications equipment for the US Forest Service and services the mountain top repeater transmitter. A restaurant on the beach in Maui Hawaiian Islands, a design studio for corporate image, logos and album covers, A business travel agency, and a small community airport and service center for light aircraft, where I kept my airplane and the largest repair shop for professional audio systems in the word and warranty station for the 54 top brands. A horse ranch breeding and training competition horse for Cutting Competition... My money was put into a blind trust for relatives and my 4 grand children.. I got the first ticket out from San Francisco and arrived on a cold snowy day at the beginning of 2000, the same day Putin was sworn in as president, standing the blowing snow on Nevsky Prospect with a big stupid grin on my face with 2 suitcases and $6000 in my pocket and no idea where to live or how to support myself. Still here still loving it, have more genuine friends than ever, I am well known here, mostly but people involve in music, tourism opera, ballet, actor community and started a small two person tour operator company that blew up and by the next year has 83 employees focused on intensive tours for cruise ship passengers who, until Covid ended all cruise ship arrivals. It only worked May to the end of September and hosted 120,000 visitors on intensive 2-3 day history and culture tours.. each summer to show why I love St Petersburg so much. There were already 20 companies doing it but I was the only one who seem to know what American, Canadian and UK cruise passengers would enjoy. With in 3 years dozens of small tour companies sprang up copying everything we did. I have a small photo studio used for actor portfolios and 2 times a month put on master classes for stage actors(there are 237 drama theaters here ) who want to transition from stage to cinema. They are 2 -3 day events with 20-100 actors attending. And I have a small electronic repair shop for pro audio equipment. It i the best equipped in precision test equipment in the region but just run it in a spare bedroom in my city center apartment.. Almost all my close friends are 20-35yo because we share the same interests in the arts, music culture.
I have been back to the US 5 times for 1 -2 weeks each , often for finding unused test equipment and I dread going back because the US is seriously falling apart and is probably the worse place to raise a family or have a normal life. Every year I am prepared to be shocked but even that is not enough to believe the downward spiral the US and EU are in. Those who live it daily do not seem to notice the small gradual decline in security and quality of life that a person like me who sees the accumulated small daily decay all at once4-5 years of daily decay seen at once. Europe is crashing also and there is no one looking out for average families. My many friends in UK and Germany are sinking fast but still believe they are superior.
Russia as a key member of BRICS is a gigantic position to influence the rational world. All the women I know from the 90s and early 2000s were so sure an American would rescue them and take them to the Promised land of golden streets and luxurious life who went with the first western man who was interested and lived in the US are single miserable and have no life. Once trapped in the debt system it i almost impossible to get out of it. As someone has started many businesses Russians still have vision that they would do much better in the west but the opposite is true.. It is remarkably easy to start a business here and low cost, one day. But so many do not realize their are on rising star of a country, there is infinite opportunity.. The government is very supportive of small and mid size business. I one of the few people here whole leases their home, the services needed for normal life are free or very cheap

I sold up everything and moved to Russia too! Not only are we now debt free, we also now completely own a small business (the land and the building, something we built up over 10 years), and we're very comfortable financially (we have a passive income stream from the business). It was only after we moved to Russia that we actually truly owned things (i.e. we didn't own a mortgage or car payments - we just bought and owned things outright). All these years later, and I'm still in love with this place. Not everything has been hyper-financialized and commoditized here (yet 🤞).

@@TrevorCachin Do your research before moving here, as it's not for everyone (and it's not that easy moving here unless you have a job or a Russian wife). Russia fits me like a glove, and the pros far outweigh the cons (for my particular circumstances). I have a huge support network here (my wife's family and friends), and my wife already had bank accounts and an apartment here. Because our business is successful, we don't have to worry about money, and managed to build a very comfortable large home. We also bought a beautiful dacha, which surprisingly has fiber internet, even though it's out in the middle of nowhere! The nearest town to our dacha is very poor, and is plagued by gypsies (so I'm fully aware of what poverty is like in Russia). I love our dacha though - it's three stories, 7 bedrooms, has heated floors etc... We also get our drinking water from a natural spring. I love this country.
@@MnemonicCarrier im prior military and used to be homeless, so I'm used to the ruggedness of life. It'll just be the process of getting money, work, and if I can, a girlfriend there that'll be the hardest part. I'll try to visit a few times to Vladivostok or Слюданка To try and make some friends
In Russia, the majority of the population does not have a cult of things. People own the necessary things and that's it. In the USA, the cult of things and things own people, hence the eternal debts. Russian russians can be content with the most necessary things and will be happy if they are surrounded by their beloved family and really friends (who are part of the family), therefore, there is rarely a void inside the Russian that you want to close with unnecessary purchases. Russians are more relaxed and less afraid of life and others, unlike residents of the United States and Canada, so they do not hide behind things and try not to accumulate debts. Priority is given to the principle, well done, have a good rest. In this sense, Westerners do not understand that the enjoyment of life is not in brands and not in photos on social networks, but in nature, a favorite hobby and a pleasant vacation with family and friends. Russia has deeper and more trusting relationships with family than in the USA and Canada, so people do not need to pretend and smile in public, as it happens in the West. It is psychologically easier for people, because in Russia they accept you for who you really are. In Russia, you can be real.

That's a bold statement. Everyone loves things here, but not everyone can afford everything they want. I'd love to have a better computer, but the prices for them are insane here. Sometimes 3 times more expensive than in the US or Germany
Well, There is no reasons for majority of Russians to be in debt as home ownership rate in Russia is above 92%.Education/Healthcare is free, Utility bills are dirt cheap and taxes are low.
And the interest rate is 5 times that of a normal western society.

Very funny. This rule does not work in Russia. We are dealing with loans very quickly. A loan is a necessary measure for us. At the moment, all banks in Russia offer me a loan of one and a half million rubles, but I don't need it! They call me, different banks, because my borrower history is idiotic. And the lending base in Russia is common to all banks. If your credit history has a negative, you move to the status of a problem lender.

Totally get you about the teeth... I was fixing my teeth every phookin' year as long a I remember myself, minus couple of recent years, because prior to that I decided to make a "major renovation". I've visited dantist almost every day for about a month, fixed 18 teeth in total, 5 of which are crowns. It felt like the worst month in my life. lol. Spent about 130K RUR btw, I scarce to imagine what it would cost me in USA.

Чел, у меня мост 4 металлокерамики 40к. Просто не понтовая клиника и не МСК.
В этом году делал коронку - 25 тыс.рублей. Мордовия.

В ремонт нужно вникать, даже если он делается не вашими руками. Проверять качество работ (не всегда отделочники добросовестны). Неплохо было бы иметь план расстановки мебели, пусть даже от руки, но в масштабе, чтобы привязать нужное количество розеток и выключателей. Заранее выяснить на какие приборы нужны розетки с заземлением.
Желательно покупать у фирм- производителей, они гарантируют качество. И главное правило - никогда не делать 100% предоплату! 😅
Начинай постепенно говорить на русском, удачи, всё получится вы с женой молодцы!

My family and I are in the process of selling our home and possessions and trying to get out asap. Only downside is my son and I can stay for 3 years but my wife is Canadian so we can't find a long visa for her. Any ideas?

Русские это люди родившиеся в России, принадлежащие к русской культуре, говорящие на русском языке, у кого предки проживают в течении столетий в России, знающие русскую культуру, фольклор. Его жена русская. А Эрик американец, как и другие иностранцы мигрировавшие в Россию.

Ребята, отправить ребёнка в детский сад, чтоб вырваться в фастфуд? Не пугайте! Что дочку не берёте - это здорово, не нужно приобщать ребёнка к этому пищевому мусору, но, пока отличная погода и есть свободное время, лучше потратьте его на прогулки - соберите корзинку, сделайте те же сендвичи самостоятельно, побольше сезонных овощей, бутырка кваса или морса. А в выходные, уже всей семьёй, за город на шашлыки или за грибами. Даже если у вас нет своей машины и дачи (не знаю), но у вас, у семьи жены должны быть друзья, у которых есть дача. И, уверена, в Ярославле сейчас тоже достаточно оборудованных мест, куда можно съездить отдохнуть. Если не на автобусе или электричке, то на такси - было бы желание.

Меня тоже удивило, что эта пара любит ходить в Макдональдс. В России же полно нормальных недорогих кафешек.
@@ElinaMLM , думаю, это ностальгия по "домашней" пищи - меня больше удивляет то, что американцы называют Макдональдсы - ресторанами и считают, что там нормально питаться повседневно. Даже человек, явно заботящийся собственным здоровьем, с этой дряни соскочить не может? Это так уговорить мужа не добавлять в свежие овощи майонез, а ограничится постным маслом или сметаной. )
Отвяньте со своими ходи туда, а туда не ходи. Пусть ходят, куда хотят. Сама в Мак не хожу, но и других не попрекаю. Тем более за один раз в неделю.
У нас в Ярославле есть замечательные рестораны с очень вкусной едой. Сказка, огни, Лючия и очень много других. Зачем же ходить в этот мусор?

А также я слышала, что граждане сша обязаны продолжать платить налоги, где бы они ни жили, причём не важно где они зарабатывают внутри страны или нет. Так ли это? Получается тогда что всё время продолжаешь выплачивать в сша.
Всё именно так. Вы обязаны продолжать платить налоги пока сохраняете гражданство США, вне зависимости от деятельности или места жительства.

@@alexbayer2365 насчёт "огромный плюс" большие сомнения. Если у человека нет денег на визу, то на путешествие за границу уж точно нет. Это плюс только для человека, который большую часть своей жизни проводит в поездках за границу. А вот пожизненно платить налог в двух странах, это точно огромный минус.

Не могу представить жизнь с вечными кредитами, тем более с такими огромными, как норма на западе, кажется, это должен быть какой-то жуткий стресс. Ради кучи ненужного пространства, в котором люди там живут в одиночку практически, выправаживая детей в 18 и отправляя родителей в дома престарелых. Луше скромно без излишеств, на мой взгляд, но всё своё, без долгов и с родными и близкими рядом.
Я тоже называю его макдоналдс))) Даже по привычке прошу биг мак и они все равно знают что дать))

Assuming that one has no assets in the West and has already obtained permanent residence in Russia they can just forget about shit like student loan payments and nothing would happen right?
Not like westoid banks can garnish your wages over there or anything and if you ain't going back i assume they really can't do shit.
I ask this in part because it'll take a while to pay them off with Russian wages presumably but also just because as an immigrant with no real support network I'd require all the money i can get for survival basically.
Thinking specifically about the IT sector there just because i heae the work visa requirements are more lax for engineers across the board and somewhere engineering is one of the easier and quicker routes in that kind of work.
I would think ones character in paying their debts would be a big consideration. I’m guessing they are looking for people that deal on the level.

Eric, Yaroslavl is a great old city. A lot of history and culture. But you can also visit Moscow and St-Petersburg. And other cities. You are going to like it. And it should be not too expensive.

Вокруг Ярославля хватает куда попутешествовать, от Рыбинска до плеса или даже юрьева ну и Ростов, Переславль и городишки 100 км вокруг, да тот же Судиславль, Нерехта..
