Douglas Laing's Remarkable Reg. Malts 6 pieces of whiskey - we tasted it just last week. It was fun. Our best whiskey was The Gauldrons. (in our opinion, this is the best of the 6 blends as a whiskey - absolutely versatile aroma, nose - and great flavors, more complex and very silky - and even the finish is quite good) For me, Rock Island was the most delicious (those salty sea notes - I love it ) and for my partner, Big Peat is the most delicious. But there are really many editions - cask finish, age, cask str. etc. - lots to try! Beast is not on my radar yet.🐭
In October I was in Holland and visited an amazing whiskey shop in Leiden where I bought 4 bottles. There I noticed both this thirteen-year-old and the Campbelltown blend with a glow-in-the-dark label... After some thought, I decided to skip them, although I really wanted to. I can only say now thank you so much for the fact that now I definitely don’t regret it 🤭 Shalom 👍🏻

Good one Geoff! I'm not a massive fan of blended malts, I find more often than not they feel disconnected and a bit all over the place. With this series I think people should definitely try the standard line up to see what each region could offer but going beyond that I don't think I'll be investing more. Cheers!
I see where you're coming from. I agree that a lot of blended malts do taste "blended out" to the point that the character is no longer very distinctive. But some do manage to make it work. The 12 year cask strength Timorous was a beauty! 🥃

The OSWA's put a half dozen bottles on my radar. This was on my TWE wishlist for awhile but ultimately, I couldn't justify the price plus the shipping cost and I had to delist it. I'm having a similar conundrum with Kilkerran. Never had any of them but just the 12yr malt is $90+tax US for me (and $160 for the 16yr). The only way I could possibly justify that buy is as a one-off + first distillery product ever. I suspect it'll be good but not $90 good.
I love the Kilkerran. $90 is steep, so your call. But having tried it, it's leagues better than something like Meet the Beast, which you were wise to skip. 🥃

@@Gwhisky I think I've only had the NAS 46% (?) version of this one. Pretty unremarkable. Regarding it's OSWA nomination, I think it shows a general flaw in the nominating process. Perhaps there needs to been a rotating committee rather than the current popularity contests? There are some pretty ridiculous categories which I feel very few people can have an educated opinion on.

I was literally thinking about this bottle today honestly because the name is awesome and catchy and I've heard it's good stuff.

Do a review of glendalough double barrel. These times people need quality dram with affordable prices. Ralfy gave it 88/100p.
