- The Boeing C-40B is a military version of the 737-700 Boeing Business Jet operated by the United States Air Force. It is a medium air transport for senior military and government leaders and is equipped with modern communication capabilities.
This model is my first airliner scale model build. I always had a strong interest in airliners but all of the plastic scale models I have built are military aircraft only. So with this build of the Boeing C-40B I wanted to kind of throw a bridge between both fields of aviation.
It was also my first Zvezda kit, and I have to say I like it a lot! The quality is really good. The parts are finely detailed and fit perfectly, no issues at all. The included instruction sheet has some small errors like a few mixed up part numbers but nothing serious. Decals are okay and robust to work with, however they are pretty thick. Two white decals developed a kind of red tint after bringing on Tamiya X-22 clear varnish, no idea why this happened. Also the passenger window decals are not measured correctly. They do not fit the windows in the fuselage and need to be cut in smaller pieces.
Overall I am quite satisfied with this build. It was my first model with a high gloss finish which was a bit of a challenge for me. Since the C-40 is a well maintained and perfectly cleaned aircraft for government purposes I did not add any weathering to my model. I think this fits the look of the actual aircraft best - even if I usually like to have my planes pretty dirty and worn.

Hi Les, I always loved civil airliners, especially the 737, so building one was just a question of time. :) The C-40 being a military airliner I thought this would be a great choice to build a bridge between both "worlds". Thanks and stay safe! Oliver/RWO
@@RWOModels Can gloss white be applied to an aircraft model by paint brush or spray can? I can't use an airbrush.
I don't have a lot of experience with spray cans but if you work very carefully and are able to apply the paint in very thin layers I would prefer these to using a paint brush. My first model was the Revell Saturn V which also has large white areas similar to an airliner model. I tried to brush paint it but found it so annoying and disappointing I immediately decided to buy an airbrush (which of course brings its own challenges and learning curve 😆).

The upper hole on the APU exhaust is not an outlet. Its an inlet for cooling air.
Thanks for clarifying this! The kit includes two different APU exhaust parts (1 and 2 holes) so I assumed due to its special role the C-40 has a stronger APU requiring dual exhausts. Never thought the upper duct would be for cooling. 🙂👍

We missed the part on how you masked the individual windows for the second coat of white.
I actually did not mask the windows individually, my method was to paint the fuselage parts white, insert the windows, mask the window areas with Tamiya tape and then paint the whole rest of the fuselage. At the time of the build I did not know better and it's by far not perfect this way. Today I would clearly prefer individual masks for each window even it's a pain to apply these. 🙂 Thanks!

Ich versuche, möglichst viel im Einzelhandel vor Ort zu besorgen. Zum Glück habe ich ein sehr gutes Geschäft in erreichbarer Nähe (Menzels Lokschuppen in Düsseldorf). Von dort stammen die meisten Farben, Werkzeuge, Klebstoffe usw. sowie ein großer Teil meiner Bausätze. Ersatzteile für die Airbrush (Harder&Steenbeck) und alles restliche beschaffe ich je nach Lust und Laune bei verschiedenen Onlinehändlern. Viele Grüße, Oliver/RWO

X-22 & X-2 color are enamel?
Thank you very much! Tamiya X-2 and X-22 are acrylic paints. For this build I thinned them with Tamiya X-20A.

In general, which manufacturer offers the most realistic and quality models? Zvesda or Revell (Heller doesn't seem extraordinary)?
The C-40 was the only Zvezda model I built and I really liked the quality of the kit. Revell IMHO is a kind of hit or miss, they have some really nice kits but also some real lemons. Academy offers good kits, built a couple of them. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
I have this too. Unfortunately the decals didn’t line up perfectly.

Thank you! It depends, sometimes I begin carefully sanding down larger amounts of dried putty with 240 grit, but I think I use 800 the most. Fine sanding with 1000 or 2000 Tamiya sanding papers and sponges. Cheers!

@@RWOModels For your first glossy finish, it looks more than great! I have two models in my stash that need a glossy finish and I postpone them every time I pick one for a build. I guess it's time for one of them. :)
I know what you’re talking about, I also have a few other „glossy“planes desperately waiting to be built. 😬 What I found is that the paint coats need much longer to dry, so just take your time when you give it a try. 🙂 Thanks!

Hello!!is there any chance to straighten them after I put the lower part of the wing?,, I mounted them and then I saw that they are more arched than they should be,,,
Hi, what you can always try to do is gently apply heat from a hot air gun (or maybe even a hair-dryer) and try to bend and straighten the warped parts until they have the desired shape. But be very patient and cautious since you can easily melt and damage the parts if you apply too much heat. I also had a few problems with bent wing parts on this kit. Hope this helps, cheers!

How do you use Superglue and not mist up your windows?
I tested the superglue I had in my inventory on a piece of sprue and it worked, no fogging!? I’m afraid I can’t tell you why some brands seem to work and some don’t… 🤷🏻♂️😳 Thanks for watching! 👍🙂

You really got me on this one! :) It was supposed to follow directly after Viper's A-4 but then I decided to do the A-6E Intruder as a kind of practice project first since it has basically the same color scheme... Then the Boeing C-40 kit crossed my way... So many models and not enough time to build them! I'll be off to rehab next month so probably no building for a couple of weeks, but my goal is definitely to have the F-14A finished before "Top Gun Maverick" finally releases! Thanks!

Do you use the 0.4 or 0.2 needle to paint? Nice work!
For most of my work which is usually smaller and more detailed I use the 0.2 nozzle but the 0.4 of course is very useful for covering larger, more uniform areas. Thanks!

It's a very nice airbrush with great versatility thanks to the two included nozzle/needle sets. Just regularly check that the seals are intact and keep it thoroughly clean and I'm pretty sure you'll achieve great results with it. 🙂 Happy New Year, greetings from Germany, RWO
