What is described in the video is a SOUTH INDIAN Hindu wedding. Hindu wedding traditions vary from region to region and country to country.

This is more of Tamil Hindu wedding. Its different in different states but have some commonality like circling fire, gifting sarees, tying taalis, aarti's etc which is part of all Hindu wedding but these are always infused with local customs variants like the ring game ,myth about Arundati etc

hindu weddings are the most beautiful and authentic. all other religions in india/south asia derive their wedding customs and rituals from hinduism.

The story of arundati as I heard it is different. The arundati star is actually not one but two stars that are always very close together. They look as if they are one but if you look closely you can see that there are two. This is to tell the couple that in marriage they are to be forever so close that they are almost one unit.

What are some good gift ideas for the bride being that I am “American” and she is Indian?

You should go for a Christian wedding dear, speaking as a Hindu. Hindu traditions are very old and meaningful and must be done by Hindu couples only and congrats on your wedding too. Keep her happy, my blessings 🙌.

You can't force these things. people have to want to do it themselves. i have been married for 19 years. and live in the US and i wear my "thali" everyday. it doesn't matter weather i wear pant and shirt or salwar kameez. i still wear it.

I am in a dilemma.. My feminist part wants to reject taali etc as being sexist. On the other hand as a woman I like the colourful festivities that are part of the tradition.. :/

Maybe Feminism is the problem, then.

@@ryanferguson7845 Over the years what was once enjoyable became a rule. Once it becomes forced then the charm wears off..

Alot of married girls now in india itself don't wear a "thali" or a "mangalyam". they think that it doesn't go well with western clothing like pant and shirt or skirt and blouse. things are changing.

The ceremony differs from region to region, you should have mentioned it. And most importantly make the pronunciation correct, not Indian type.
