I just finished reading, Surviving Auschwitz, by Primo Levi. I started your book on Bonhoeffer, right after and plan to see the movie right after I am done reading the book. I am an atheist, but love to read about people, like Bonhoeffer that are good, with strong morals. We may disagree on many things, but Bonhoeffer is a great role model for us. We need more people like this. We don't need charlatans and liars. You cannot expect the world to see someone hold up a bible and believe they are a good person based on this act, if that person is evil, and a dictator like the man Bonhoeffer was ultimately killed by. We are not blind.
please read another book on bonhoeffers (the one Bethge wrote perhaps) Metaxas knows nothing and is busy distorting Bonhoeffer's beliefs and legacy for him own gain.

The book is very insightful, so I was eager to see the film. Sadly, the darkness was overwhelming; straining to see/understand who was speaking was exhausting and futile. Captions are needed!
My brother & I were at a Pro-Life stand at the local festival last summer when a man walked up & started speaking to us. My brother noticed a mark on his hand, and asked if he was a survivor of the concentration camps during WWll. The man said "Yes". My brother said that he traveled worldwide for business & had visited the " Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe" in Berlin, Germany.Then my brother asked the man if he could share the name of the concentration camp that he had spent time in during WWll. I had never heard of the camp, but My brother knew all about the concentration camp, all the details. Then my brother looked at me & said there were over 10,000 concentration camps in. Germany & Europe that were putting Jewish people and other people to death during WWll.
The man was so grateful that my brother had taken the time to to investigate & understand the horrors of war, and the evil imposed upon the Jewish people at that time.

Metaxes can barely let his interviewees get a sentence out without interrupting. It’s the reason I don’t read his books because they are extremely wordy. But on the note of the interview, the movie does an excellent job of capturing the heart and intellect of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Contrary to liberal media, it’s not about Christian nationalism. It’s about Bonhoeffer and I suggest seeing it especially if you don’t know much about him. But better than the movie are his own writings. The Cost of Discipleship if one of the best Christian books ever written.

I read Bonhoeffer's book by Eric Metaxas. Excellent. Very interesting how God allowed the attempts to fail, even when several besides Bonhoeffer that were Christians...I bought it from The Logos Hope when they visited us here. The idea that God don't always answer our prayers and efforts. We as humans do not see the whole picture, but God does. Usually we only see ourselves.rccr.

Your statement is exactly why Bonhoeffer's family has condemned the book and the film. Bonhoeffer would not have supported Trump. If you can't see the parallels between what happened in pre-war Germany under Hitler and what is happening in the US now, then you're blind. Bonhoeffer called it the "Theory of Stupidity."
I have seen the movie, and I was touched by how the director followed the direction of the RUAK HAKODESH. You could literally become part of the movie and understand the fear evil dictators can cause, so much fear😢 The director really did a GOoD job at showing. The victory belongs to the LORD YESHUA 💙🤍💙 No matter what our Faith walls us through, when GOD is for you, who can stand against you? No one❤

That's not something Eric normally does but he's very passionate about this. I understand what you're saying but it was important for him to interject because he studied bonhoffer himself. I want to see this movie.

Saw the movie… yes when Hitler wanted the German church to say Hitler was God and his book was to replace the Bible the clergy was right to speak out but getting involved in the plot to assassinate Hitler was wrong. The Bible clearly states that it is God who puts in kings and takes them down. My view of Bonhoeffer was not elevated by the movie at all.

I felt too much detail was left out of the movie. I've read everything about Bonhoeffer but my friend hadn't and she had trouble following it.

The film is based on Metaxas's book on Bonhoeffer's life. Also this is meant to be more of a talk radio conversation than an interview.
