    Cristine, in case this is reassuring to hear: I have never once noticed your eye rash, even when you point it out. AND I am super appreciative of the fact that you don't wear make up and that you continue to be on camera and be yourself. There's nothing wrong with having a face, and you shouldn't need to cover it up no matter what. Your eyes look more fantastic than they ever have and I hope you learn to love the way you look every day :)

      Honestly, I don't see the rash either! All I see is her pretty, natural face! I've become so accustomed to it being no make up it's weird to rewatch old videos with her having it on. I've grown fond of her bare face, like your best friend who doesn't feel the need to "put a face on" before coming over.

      Truly, hearing her talk about this, I thought to myself, "I didn't think this was still going on!" Also for podcasts I am super down with people wearing whatever the heck they want and looking how they want. I think since Jenna and Julien were the first podcast I watched on YT, they just set my standard of "we're privileged to get to hang out with these people." And, if I were to go to a friend's house, I'm usually in sweats and no makeup and a big bun. No judgement here.

      I love it too. The most fascinating part (imo) is seeing just how optimistic she is. On the AITA streams, she really tries to see things from the other person's side and contemplates how much might have been omitted from the OP's post. I'm such a cynic, usually on Ben's side. Getting a well thought out different perspective is interesting. She has somehow managed to maintain some semblance of faith in humanity. Much respect.

    The Met Gala is mildly important to people who care about fashion because it's a fundraiser for the Met's Costume Institute. This, I believe, is the only part of the museum that has to fund itself.

    • @leenselart
      @leenselart 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      And Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of vouge, selects the guests herself, or I believe its possible to buy a ticket. Each year also has a different theme and to my understanding, the problem that people have with youtubers and influencers attending is that they dont dress according to the theme or are just really boring

    • @Stiiizyz
      @Stiiizyz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Correct. Which means to even be considered and invited by Anna Wintour, net worth is definitely considered. Its a fundraiser at the end of the day. High fashion aint cheap! Fashion is apart of culture though. It defines eras, so of course the red carpet is televised! So many people idolize these high profile folks, so they make a bigger deal about the guest list than they should, in recent years.

    • @rachelann9362
      @rachelann9362 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And by “costume institute”, we mean the historical clothing museum. It is the ONLY segment of the Met that is 100% self-funded.. thus the gala to fund themselves. The Met by large doesnt help out at all with funding for that musuem, and its something people in the department are fighting against. The historical value of clothing is incredibly undervalued, and clothing historians are still trying to gain validation and appreciation from other historian types.

    As much as I enjoyed Cristine's "Saturday" content, I felt it was noticeable when it wasn't as much fun for her anymore, and the content suffered because it. I'd rather see her do content she enjoys and that doesn't stress her out. My favourite parts about the "Saturday" content was when her and Ben started chatting about all sorts of things, and that's why I enjoy this podcast just as much, actually even more than the other pre-recorded stuff. In my opinion content is better when the person doing it has fun. And that goes for all creative fields, no matter if you're a musician, actor or a TH-camr etc..

    As a girl from Austin, Texas, I am super happy to hear y'all talk about my city! You were right Ben, our slogan is "Keep Austin Weird," and it is arguably the most liberal part of the state of Texas. 71% of the Travis County population voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 election with 70% voter turnout (I'm a journalist, so I had to research the numbers). I'm sorry y'all had that weird experience with the driver bringing up guns randomly. Texas law does allow for open carry and more recently permitless open carry. I really recommend reading up on the University of Texas at Austin protest against the campus open carry laws called "Cocks not Glocks." It's from a few years back, but it was a really interesting way of protesting guns laws at our city's flagship university. But it became obvious as time went on that Cristine wasn't enjoying those videos as much, as she speaks about here, and I'd much rather see content created by someone who's enjoying what they're doing. I watch the podcasts and livestreams (although usually not live) and I enjoy feeling like I'm just having a chat with Cristine and Ben. I think that kind of cozy familiarity is a real gift that not all creators have. I feel like it's the same as for Safiya Nygaard -- creating videos on that fast-paced schedule really seemed to do a number on her mental health, and it seems like livestreaming has helped her get back into content that she actually enjoys making. tl;dr -- you do what makes you happy, Cristine, I'm on board.

I think it's like a lot of costume or fashion events in that people don't really watch it for the 'live vicariously through these people' entertainment, and more art and fashion appreciation and criticism. They (the designers) have the challenge of trying to fit the theme of the exhibition each year, and people like to judge how different designers interpret these themes (or don't, as is often that case!).

      Yeah, it's also a great way for designers to show off their skills and new collections. Fashion people nerd out about the historical references. Celebrities like it because they get to wear crazy outfits they might get roasted for on normal red carpets. (Who doesn't like a themed costume party?) Or make statements about what they stand for. Yup, I grew up only drinking green tea 🍵 and all of our tea was loose leaf tea that we’d have to put in these metal balls made from screens. If we wanted a potent cup, my Japanese grandma had this hand held grinder that you would put the dried tea leaves in and you’d have to really crank that shaft so the powder would come out ultra fine. The only thing was that you. Had to make sure to remove all the stems, stems are BITTER. And my water was never higher than 88°C (190°F) ‘cause that would make it bitter too. It’s not quite boiling (100°C [212°F]), but it’s still pretty hot.

    Putting milk in first comes from when cheaper cups would break from hot water, so ended up being associated with the lower classes, I think. However; heating milk unevenly means that the proteins denature, and that can cause milk to lose its flavour. So the people who put milk in first might actually be onto something.

    Fun fact about cafeine (theine) in tea: it's the exact same thing as in coffee, but because of the other things that tea contains, it's absorbed more slowly into the body and hence has a bit different effect. Coffe will give you a sharp spike in energy and then leave you with a sharp low when it runs out, whereas tea will make you more energetic for a longer time, more mildly.

On the one hand, I do have several youtubers I really look forward to content from, and I want more, more more. I could watch them every day. But then having tried my hand at video editing and understanding how taxing that process is, even setting aside the fact that doing anything for more than a couple years can get exhausting it's so obvious how unreasonable that is to actually demand from the creators I watch.

    Anna Wintour decides who gets to go and what they wear. The designers usually work with the client to create something that is resprentative of everyone's brand. So, Kendal Jenner loves Audrey Hepburn and wanted to reference her (she didn’t really nail the theme but that’s a different conversation). Loving the growth simply has shown over the years. Sunday stream was chefs kiss. 🥰 Adding a request for cat content when they are playing or on the move as well. 😸 Maybe some "cat clips" to insert during a stream. Would they help "choose a manicure" instead of the wheel? 🤭

    I am listening to these on my own time, hence being so behind responding to this one, but what you said towards the end about managing your time and career really resonated with me and sounded almost identical to what I went through. I remember a couple years ago (actually, around your low period on youtube in 2018/2019) where I was doing grad school part time, had 2 part time jobs in my field, and was working on my business part time, and it was an incredible amount of work. I barely had time to do anything else and when I DID take time for my hobbies or working out, I felt guilt because I wasn't working.
    I'm in much better place NOW, because I got my degree and decided to work full time on my business so I quit those two part time jobs, as it was successful enough that I could. For me, my business was unique in that it was something only I could do, so that's why I made the choice to step away and be an entrepreneur. But that guilt really carried over for YEARS; all of last year the extra free time I had I felt guilty not working. Literally everything I did that was fun felt like a waste of time. Like you said, it really felt like something had to give; I just didn't have the energy anymore and my mental health took a nosedive.
    It takes time to work through and get over. But I think you stepping back and balancing your work/life better now is a good thing overall for your physical and mental health. That happened for me. Now I'm happy doing my hobbies. I have time and energy for family and friends. And I'm glad we're both in better places! At least as of this podcast.

    I'm from Austin, TX, and it's a college town so I like to think it's less conservative than other (more rural) parts of Texas. Admittedly lately I'm not super proud to live in Texas though :-/

    MY FAMILY MAKES TEA WITH THE MILK IN THE CUP FIRST! my family uses condensed milk and evaporated milk instead of regular milk so we get the perfect amount of condensed milk by pouring just enough to cover the bottom of the mug and add a splash of evaporated milk, then we pour the tea once it's done steeping in our tea making machine (think like a coffee maker but for tea). bur if we do use regular milk it goes in last,

    You should do a collaboration with david’s tea to create your own tea and name it simply’s tea!

    The trick for getting tea brewing temperature right without a fancy kettle is to boil the water fully, then dilute to the temperature needed with the temperature you want representing a percentage - e.g. I'd you need 80⁰C water, doing 80% boiling and 20% cold water (room temperature straight from the tap) should get you in the temperature range for that tea 😊. Pretty sure this only works with ⁰C though 🤔
