Buy that Panda. Do it.
Buy it, it won’t be a mistake!
Price for Panda 4x4 in EU is round 15K
I am a Land Rover guy, got 2 Range Rovers and a Defender 110, and now I am looking for a Panda 4x4. It's just so sweet.
Do it!
@@LaLa-Baneit depends a lot
I live in Italy and a panda 4x4 start at about 5/6k for a mk2 to 20k for a first series in perfect condition ( or perfectly restaraured )
In Italy we say "Il pandino non si infama" it mean that you can't talk bad about the Panda in any situation.
You can say everything you want about Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati, Alfa, Lancia, and so on; but if you talk shit about Panda we can be angry. this is the level of love that we have of this car in Italy
When I was in Italy as a child, I thought the Panda is a 'must to have' in every household there :) I love them so much, I think I will buy one for going rough places for wild photography, where I don't want to damage my Lancia or Alfa :) Saluti dall'Ungheria 🙋♂
Guai a chi tocca il pandino
In Spain we made Pandas under license for a while, and under the Seat brand, I've driven one of the old ones both Seat and Fiat bc my grandpa loved the little mfers, they are really good
The Panda 4x4 is the mountain goat of cars
I confirm it. I love my 1988 Fiat Panda 4x4 Val d’Isère.
it's a goat? it's a cat? no... it's a panda!!!🤭
The 4x4 system on the original Panda was made by Steyr Puch, they also did the G Wagon and VW Vanagon 4x4 systems. 👍
Yes, the drive train was built here in Graz, Austria, and the Fiat Panda 4x4 and VW Golf 4x4 Cross Country got their final assembly also here. And of course the whole production and development of the Mercedes G (former Puch G) is still here.
@@rome0610 Golf Country... nix Cross.
Steyr Puch does also do a lot of military 4x4 work. Really capable drive trains
absolutely, when it comes to hardcore off-road done old school, steyr puch is THE real shit, lightweight, strictly functional, rugged
I'm Italian, and here Panda is an institution. For those like me who live near the Alps, the "Pandina" allows you to go everywhere, also because the roads here are narrow. Above all, the first series (1000/1300 cc) is a simple and light car but effective off-road.
And we all love her.
which first series panda had a 1300cc engine? i only know the 900cc fwd, the 1000cc fwd or 4x4, 1100cc 4x4 andi know there was a diesel and an electric. And i almost forgot about the first gen 650cc and 750cc.
@@letmekissthebridee You right. My mistake. 1000cc (965) and 1100cc.
For a moment i thaught theres a panda that i dont know about lol
Ahh, the Fiat Panda, it's like the secret love child of a Mini and a Land Rover.
The old generation "square" ones are proper tiny beast.
The Dutch TV commercial for this first Panda is still hilarious after all these years.
th-cam.com/video/pr0OnASy6Ik/w-d-xo.html This?
The original panda was designed by giorgetto giugiaro, the same guy behind the alfa Romeo giulia, the vw golf, the Lancia delta or the delorean to name a few. Absolute legend of a car. It would be hilarious if you got one😂
I was about to comment the same... I'll add few other cars instead... The Maserati MC12, the Mini Cooper, the BMW M1 and the SAAB 9000
In many Alpine countries the post was and still is delivered with 4x4 Pandas! Built very solid with no extra fuss these things are remarkably strong and agile.
The scientists that work on Mt. Vesuvius use them too.
@@russcattell955i Panda is ideal for narrow alpine -forest roads
Its like in Spain, many forest guard still keeps the Land Rover Defender (Santana in Spain).

@@the_og_rubenmartin No es eso, es peor. No hay reemplazo. Los land rover modernos no son lo mismo...
Back in the late 90's i worked as a forestry agent in spain. We had Nisan Patrol, Ford Ranger and old Land rover 4x4's , but when no one of the former could get there we serviced the Panda 4x4. Amazing what that little fella could do.
" Its small " lol, that one is huge comprared to the 1st Panda.
Well it about the same size as Fiat Uno
It's still smaller compared to your typical off-roaders like Land Cruiser, the original G-Wagen and Land Rover Defender.
It's hilarious when people pretends that 2nd and 3rd gen Fiat Panda is huge compared to the 1st gen Panda. Yes the 2nd and 3rd gen are slightly taller, but they're still NOT huge.
The 1st gen Panda is: 1,445 mm (56.9 in) in height and 3,380 mm (133.1 in) in length
The 2nd gen Panda is: 1,578 mm (62.1 in) in height and 3,538 mm (139.3 in) in length
The 3rd gen Panda is: 1,551-1,605 mm (61.1-63.2 in) in height and 3,653-3,686 mm (143.8-145.1 in) in length
We always went on holiday to the Italian alps and every remote town is full of these little panda’s cause they get you everywhere.
They are going up in price here in Europe
My aunt is a plant biologist and her vehicles of choice over more than 30 years have been Pandas. She's gotten them in every forest and up every mountain in the Balkans and Southern Europe in general. These things are fantastic!
Just picture how hilly and mountainous Italy is. This is the GOAT car in rural areas. Immortal. Respect.
I learned that pretty quick first time going to Italy.
If you like going to the small villages and more mountainous areas, if you HAVE to have a car instead of a Vespa, get the smallest car you can possibly get.
We first went in my moms Grand Voyager and got stuck repeatedly.
In France, Panda 4x4, with Lada Niva, were very popular in mountain zones. They are cheap, light (very important in high mountain) and have good off road ability, so they were the perfect cars for small snowy dirty roads.
The Panda 4X4 (first series) was called the mountain goat in the Italian Alps.
The Panda 4X4 is used a lot in France, in the Alps, by all those who need an off-road car such as doctors, nurses without needing a huge one capable of overcoming enormous obstacles and transporting a big load.
The 80s/90s FIAT Panda is the jewel in the crown of Italy, every italian got one or knows someone who owned one, it was supposed to move the masses even in the worst mountain roads of north Italy. When you say it isn't capable as much as a Land Rover you are kinda wrong, the pands is MUCH more agile and nimble thanks to its very light weight (under 900kg), with the thin tires it can easely go through deep snow and sometimes even some mud. I used to own one from the late 80s before it rusted out and I scrapped it... unluckly it has its own weaknesses, FIAT used to have poor build quality in terms of bodywork, interior and electrics: FIAT aimed to make a reliable 4x4 system and an idestructible engine and give up on metals and plastics, that would usually get ruined over the time. Nevertheless the FIAT Panda remains an hero for Italy that is still produced to these days altough it got a little worse over the generations.
Keep on showing people those hidden jems of automotive history!
In the Alps (i.e. France, Itay, Switzerland and Austria), these are well loved as relatively cheap cars that will get you home in Winter. Don't forget that many "roads" that go through the higher-up villages can be rather narrow, so a Panda or a Jimny will make driving more safe.
And Italy is quite mountainous outside the Alps as well. Less snow but many still steep, narrow and sharp-cornered roads.
Finally the Panda...What a blast
In Italy it is used by the police but also by the forestry and civil protection to reach places that are difficult to reach following violent atmospheric events and harmful geological activities. I remember that to reach the snowy peaks, the forestry left the Defender in the valley and went up in panda...the lightness combined with the narrow tires made it ideal for climbing on icy surfaces.
Panda is a legend in Italy!
40 years and still nothing can stop the old Pandino
Does it spend a lot of gasoline?

44 actually; 1980
Panda's are just hella fun.
Especially the older ones.
The best part about these is that they weigh really little and don't sink in as deep as other heavier 4x4's .
14:20 Just to make you understand a bit, the 1st gen Panda 4x4 had a NA gasoline engine with "only" 50 HP and look what it does in the thick snow, also BUY THAT PANDA!!!!!
It snowed heavily one year (for Sussex). I went to look at the A road outside our house and the first vehicle to pass our drive was a Mark 1 Landrover Defender, followed 10 minutes later by a Fiat Panda 4x4! Nothing else came along the A272 for at least an hour! Our Merc E220 stayed in the drive, no trust for the rear wheel drive autobahn cruiser ! 8:47 Love Panda 4x4s! We stayed in a villa in the Tuscan hills and the owner took us from the village we we parked our car in his Panda 4x4, no problem! Our hire car could never have done that track!! Phenomenal!
The original (1980) fiat panda was designed to be as cheap and simple as possible. It even had flat glass for all the windows. My mum had a brand new one in 83 when I was small. Loved it. ❤
in italian small towns and villages it’s full of vintage 4x4 pandas. farmers keep using them. some are 30+ years old and still run even though they aren’t kept like a vintage car. they got 30+ years of farm work on their backs
The old one is THE REAL Panda 4x4. It's virtually indestructible. I live at the feet of the Alps and many people here are using it for 30+ years going about everywhere. It can take a lot of punishment and take you where no land rover can, in the narrow trails of Italian mountains. DAS PANDA. 😁
Fiat panda owner 😀 cheapest cars in the UK to insure and fuel economy is like it is running on panda farts 🤣
they run on fresh air man, real good fun to rag around!
The Fiat Panda is a true legend!❤
I have a 1997 Panda 4x4, I live at 700 meters above sea level and there is often snow in winter.
You have no idea how many modern SUVs I've eaten up when conditions got tough.
After 30 years the machines in Italy become historic. This means that you pay very little for insurance (100 euros a year), an engine in good condition can be found for 600 euros.
It's the best "second" car you can have. It's not beautiful, but if you look at the practical aspect it is
unstoppable and economical. A true monster without comparison.
I've seen Pandas with the old 750cc engine that did 600.000 km, that car was a marvel of engineering.
Proud owner🙋🏻♂️ Panda Sisley 4x4 1991. Such a wonderful and entertaining. Sometimes I litterally use it to tow timbers up and down the Alps😂. Hail to all the fellow "pandists" around👋💙
Hail back from Slovenia
Drove one for 25 years, love it
Have a look if you can find the Camel Trophy videos about the tour they made with the old Panda 4x4
In Ireland and UK lovingly referred to as a " pygmies hearse" . Loved by veterinary .
I went on holiday to Sicily last year and we stayed in an air BnB on the side of Etna... We met the owner at a gate and he was driving an old beaten up panda 4x4, I was in an Audi A3 and I had to follow him off roadish to the Cabin, i was struggling like hell with ground clearance and the panda was just off no worries! I've always thought they were cool as heck! And I think the more beaten up they are the better they look!
Almost 4‘500‘000 pandas were sold between 1986 and 2003.

Long ago Top gear did comparison Panda 4x4 vs Land Rover, Panda did +90% what Land Rover was capable.
And to about 10% of the price 😂
I think fifth gear did a similar thing unless I'm thinking of the top gear episode
Think tv show wheeler dealers bought an older panda 4 × 4 made it a bit more off roadie to sell, might be worth a look for yourself Think it's tied to velocity tv might have copyright issues to show any of it. But if you like the panda it might be worth a look

Love the old shape Fiat Pandas. One of my favourite 4x4s. 👍✌️🇬🇧🏴
My first car was a Fiat Panda. In those days the seats were just basic hammocks with cloth suspended on a frame. I loved that car.
also produced as the Seat Marbella, the old one that is, push startable with only one person so light weight
Seat’s didn’t come with the option to have the 4x4 system though I don’t think
@@Sharpey187 sadly they did not, they only made the "normal" version (still capable of basic offroading on dirt roads in rural areas but thats it)
the Panda was an awesome car. my mate had one back in the 90's and we used to go off roading in the Chilterns (chalk hills nr London). the seats tho' were awful when you hit rough terrain but it was huge fun. i had a Fourtrack when i lived in Wales - most of the farmers had one because they were cheap and cheerful and would go almost anywhere.
This was one of James May's favourite cars. Fairly common in the UK.
Italian ski resorts basically run on these things lol. They're super capable wee things
almost nothing can beat the OG Panda 4x4 on the snow. FACTS
old Subaru Justy II was on pair with Panda, maybe better, but when I drove the Justy I already had few years more of experience.

A lot of Italian grandpas in the countryside and mountains have these. 25 years old or more and still going "strong"
Ahhhh I miss my Fiat panda mk2 4x4. I had one back in France in the Jura region. The car never ever let me down. Then I moved to Luxembourg and bought a “Panda 100hp”. Check videos of that car. Absolutely hilarious, and very nippy.
YEEEEESSS finally the Pandaaaaa❤❤🇮🇹🇮🇹
I live in the French Pyrenees Orientals . These little Fiat's are really popular in the foothill/mountain villages and communities. The roads are often steep ,can be very narrow and sometimes are no more than just cart tracks. No problem for the 4x4Panda. I love them.
The Panda (old one) also called “PANDINO” ( like small panda for is cuteness ) is litteraly a tank in disguise, its funny but is one of the best off roads ever build, its well know for its affidability
Panda 4x4 is built by Magna Steyr and is technically nothing else but the civilian version of the Puch Haflinger--a known entity in European offroading!
Love my green panda 4x4 1.3TD
In America it was called a "JEEP PHOENIX" very rare
Mighty peanuts 🥜 for the win! 🤣
Depending on the terrain, sometimes being small & light & narrow is the way to go to reach the other side.💙
Thanks for checking this out Ian. I think you will also be very interested in the Skoda Yeti and it's 4x4 capabilities. There are quite some videos on TH-cam of people taking it off-road.
FIAT sold hundred of thousand of the first series to Civil Services and even the military as it was the perfect scout car to have in the small and tight mountain roads during winter. you wouldn't expect it to carry large equipments or a lot of fully equipment, but it were able to get anywhere in any weather. It was light, it was rigged, it was easy to maintain, had flat windows everywhere, easy to replace, simple by capable 4X4 with fully lockable differentials, a square body with extremely good visibility all around, low centre of weight that made it almost impossible to tip over.
Civil Protection, Fire Fighters, Army MP all loved the car and used it for almost 20 years.
The first Panda was designed by Giugiaro , that's why it's so pretty 😊
I’m Italian and recently my grandpa bought one of the 97’ series and since I have to do my license i’m using that and I fucking love it🇮🇹🇮🇹
We never got the Panda in the US, unfortunately. My friend has a Fiat 500 I sold to him who lifted it and goes off roading 😂 and it's surprisingly capable. 5 speed manual with front wheel drive lol.

I had an older Panda model for a number of years and we still have one in the family as a utility car. It's a car known in Italy for its sturdiness and drove the previous one I had in the direst conditions. A cute, no frills, not expensive little car that does its job pretty good. The 4x4 is widely used in remote areas and even used by forest agencies. It's also a commercial success, one of the most sold car in Italy. Lots of young people had a Panda as a first car and it is fondly loved because of that. Because of its small size lots of people refers to it as the "Pandina".

I bought a red 1992 Fiat Panda with 765ccm and 34 HP
Its so cool to drive around while listening to old italian songs.
That was my very first car, bought second hand in 1989. It was a 750 S, black with beige interior and two opening roof tops ; one at the front and another at the back. I've been everywhere with that thing , squeezing all of it's 34 Hp out on the motorway to the adriatic sea at 120 km/h ..and yet it was so cheap to run ...and nothing could go wrong...since there were nothing to be broken in the frist place😂 After that i had 3 4x4s , 1 mk1 and 2 mk2 , the last one being the country club 1100 cc 54Hp single point fuel injection that didn't perform as good as the first two.
I've heard it said that the earlier ones are better off road, very simple. Ordinary Panda is front wheel drive, with a dead tube axle, and cart springs. Steyr worked their magic, and substituted a live rear axle, still with leaf springs.
The latest ones rely on electronics, instead of mechanical equipment; and some look the part, but are only front drive.
Usually they end up submitting to the old enemy... corrosion.
I've driven dozens of different 4x4's ( never a panda though) but the best I ever drove was a Land Rover wolf V8 with only 70 km on its clocks. It was lhd and had just came straight from the army in Germany and was awaiting resupply to another unit, we landed up using it on exercise in Longmoor for fibua training.
But my favourite of them all is the 101 FC GS, or gun tractor.
True story, whilst doing fibua training, the off road course was being used by pinzgaurs being trialled by the mod. They won favour because of their portal axles.
IWrocker, Subscribed because your content is fantastic!
my mum's had a 1996 one, 900cc, and now she has a 2012 one, 1200cc LPG.
the 900cc one was also my first car when I was 18, a friend of my dad's had it laying around and he gave it to me for free. I drove it everywhere, short and long distance, I went camping in it, I got it stuck in the sand because I wanted to test its rallying abilities on the beach (yep..) and we sold it to a friend of mine years later who managed to wrap it around a tree or something.
the panda here in Italy is as important as the old 500, and the 4x4 one is just a legendary machine.
I learned how to drive with a panda Trekking 4x4 from mid 90's (like the ones in the snow) and still part of the family (i am 42 now). i was hoping you will check that little car. Even now people are still looking for the older models of the car, especially if they live in some rural area. For the size, weight and power... gives you much more than you can imagine... and fixing it it's very simple. Once you own one... you can only fall in love with it... even if has basically no optional... very minimal. As prices for a second hand one... the older 4x4 models can sell up to 5000€.
Happy you liked it.
The old, boxy ones were so light that with a group of friends you could lift them and make some "interesting" pranks like turn them around (as mentioned by Clarkson in top gear)
I'm from Italy, and here my grandma have a panda 4x4, some time i use that to go to ours house in the mountain, and that thing is very fun to drive, also in the road like a normal car
Old Panda 4x4 are so cool to drive... I had one and simply amaaazing!

Il Pandino è un mito!
“If it’s that cheap guys, I might make a mistake..”
That’s a great way to describe an impulse purchase 😂
Do it. Considering how much watching them in action made you smile, imagine being behind the wheel of one 😉
It's light and it's got great ground clearance. Thin tires and a Steyr-Puch 4x4 system makes it one of the best off-roaders in existence. In Italy, on the Alps many people tend to buy SUVs and newer cars, but as soon as snow starts falling, all the SUVs disappear and these start popping up everywhere!
As a family we have had two of the oldest ones. The first one, with the double soft top was an absolute best in rough terrain. In fact I learned to drive with this car.

Hello,
For the little story, when I was around 10ish I remember telling my father , "when I will be grown enough I will buy a 4X4panda "... my father laughed and told me wait until you understand... at the end of the day I never bought one, but I still have a sweet sport for this model :)

I had a red Sisley 4x4, lifted with off road tyres, bull bars front and rear and a whippy arial. It wasnt a good car by any standard, but it remains one of my favourites.
It is a very well-respected little car. Its off-road capabilities are real and won't disappoint you, even in the most extreme environments.
in the 1970s there were a lot of minnis doing rallying, even the Monti Carlo rally
Another unique 4x4 and somewhat of the grandfather to modern CUVs is the AMC Eagle from the early 1980s.
Here in Spain SEAT built this car under FIAT license and to this day there are entire comunities of 4x4 Pandas. Groups of more than 100 or 200 people reunite between Portugal and Spain and organize routes. Most middle age people here in Spain learned to drive in a Panda, although in a fwd one.
Nice video ^_^, i never drove one but i can tell you one thing, i would call the classic panda the official car from the european youtube paradise, Andorra. If you live there and dont have one youre not truly an Andorranian :D, you can see them there rallying around the streets :P
I had a normal fiat panda and the looks of the 4x4 always pleases me. This and the skoda yeti 4x4, I would love to have.
Thanks ;) The 4x4 system of the first (boxy) generation was developed by Steyr Daimler Puch (who made the G-"wagen", as you call it) and it was the most capable of them all, having a live rear axle and a completely manual 4x4 system.
Although the rounder, younger versions are far more agreeable on the road, they "only" have a viscous drive, but still are quite capable.
ohh, I almost forgot: The pinnacle of weirdness: The 1980s Lancia Y10 4WD (boxy panda, luxury version) ;)
The Panda (pandino) is the all time epic italian mountain dwelling go to car. It´s cheap and indestructible.
aaaah, so many memories with my 4x4 trekking, kitted out with low gears and raised suspension.. stupidly easy to work on, rugged asf, shitted on top of big off-roaders several times, especially in snow
