For watercolours, I've found it really useful to draw the image on the wrong side of the watercolour paper in ink. I can then use the lightbox to paint in the first pale washes - no more pencil marks on the right side!
I’m so glad I found this video. I bought a light table for my daughter, but never considered turning off the overhead lights. She was struggling in the same way, and I thought maybe I had a low quality table. Thank you so much for the help!
Also, your art looks amazing! I’m excited to see where my daughter’s art goes. She could lose an entire week, if I didn’t remind her to eat and shower. 😂 It’s such an amazing passion.
Thank you. I don’t think I would have thought of turning overhead lights off. Going to try using it for the first time today and I have watercolor paper!
I never thought about turning off the lights. I was concerned with pads not being bright enough with the light. But now I'm not worried as much. Thank you for the great tip! 😊
Hi Wendy, Thanks for the review and particularly for the "obvious" tip! I just received a light box I ordered from Amazon today. I have not used a light box for decades and I believe your "obvious" tip just reduced the learning curve for me significantly; before I have even started using it. Thank you so very much! All the best to you!
OMG thanks so much for making this! I was having trouble finding information on lightboxes because i guess no one else bothered to create a video like this assuming everyone else already knew :) Now I'm considering buying one :D
I'm glad you liked it - having a light really speeds up the transferring process of you do that a lot. I haven't seen many videos about using light boxes either but I thought it would be making one😀
I just recently started trying to learn how to paint, about five weeks ago. I'm fairly decent at painting now oh, course I have a long way to go. But I'm terrible at sketching things out. Is this Bright enough to shine through a canvas? Let's say I put it directly up against the back of a 16 by 20 canvas?
Thank you for the L4S pad demo and review. I just ordered 2 for my granddaughters, but I am hoping you have an idea on a protective case I can give them as well. Thanks!
I have been confused on how to use the light box for a long time, I always wonder myself should I buy one when I don't know how to use it and I tried to search all over the internet but It not show the right results, so I really happy when you up this video, very cool, thank you
As a rank newbie the the use of light boxes, I want to say a special thanks to you for the overhead light tip. Never would have occurred to me in a million years. :°}
Thank you for not assuming we would all know to turn off the overhead lights to use the light box. I had wondered how you would see through 300gsm paper. Helpful info!
This is so helpful 😆 I've been contemplating getting a lightbox for a really long time, because it takes me so long to transfer sketches using graphite! I wanted to see how they work first, and your video is so informative and has lots of helpful tips 😍
Thanks so much . Very useful. I paint on canvas but draw on paper first. The canvases are already stretched and often have vertical or horizontal wood support . My ptoblem is to reproduce my sketch on the canvas . What is the working support made of? Is it glass? Can it easily break or be scratched? How resistant is it,? Does it exist in A2? Any ideas would be most welcomed. I love your video.
Girl! Thank you so much for this. I was thinking the light pad I have wasn't good enough for thick paper tracing. The overhead light tip really helped me!
I just ordered a very similar light pad and was looking for tips on getting good use from it before it arrives, and found this video. 🙂 Thank you for the great advice! I had no idea it would work for thick watercolor paper too! Thank you.
Thank you for the tutorial, I was concerned for a second that I had bought a ring tool for a purpose, then I saw you layering, and realised how I can use it for the purpose. Thank you so much. xx
Hi, Windy--I love your art! This is the brightest light table I've had. The problem I have is I can't get the pages to stick to each other while I'm tracing. I'm using 300 gsm watercolor paper like you, but even with the clip or smoothing out and taping the pages together, it seems like they bubble away from each other and even when I try to smooth out and hold down the area really close to where I'm working, there's always this little shift right when the nib touches down and the pages come back together. This always causes this distortion and disturbance right when I go to ink a line, ekkk!
Wow .. I really appreciate the information. I'm just getting in to leatherwork and this could certainly help with transferring patterns to leather. I stumbled across this sort of product while looking at tracing film & tracing paper on eBay. I was wondering if I should buy one. But wanted to know how to use one first.
Do you know of any light-boxes/pads out there where you can upload an image to the devise itself to then trace? i.e. if you wanted to trace over a photo or graphic for example.
@Ty Pat NY unfortunately not. The only other thing would be a full blown drawing tablet but I think there should be scope for something in-between. Maybe with simple image reading software and that's it so you don't have to print anything first.
Thankyou so much for sharing this I just started doing embroidery on a peter rabbit quilt decided to buy a light box after watching quilting tutorials and thought it was not good with the light now I know how to use it properly thanks again kim
OMG! Its definitely not obvious to me. This was one of the reasons why I didn't get a light box because I wanted to transfer sketches onto watercolor paper and didn't think it could show through. I would not have thought to turn off over head lights 🥴😂 I ordered a light box and can't wait to use it 🤸😁 Thank you so much for sharing this brilliant tip! 🙏❤️
I am looking for a light box that I can use when I do embossing. It means using a metal stylus to trace a pattern onto card stock. Can you use that much pressure on this light box?

Thank you so much for the tip about overhead lights! I would have never thought of it! I came to TH-cam to see if I could use a higher wattage light bulb, but do not need to, thanks to your tip.
Thank you for making this video because I got to the point where I just put my board to the side because I couldn't get it to work. But now I know because of your video so I will try again. Thank you☺️

Really nice demo ... does Huion provide good customer service, like if you lose your AC Adapter Cord, or it gets destroyed, do they sell these separately? The reason I ask is that I have a Large Acurit Light Tablet, and the power cord was misplaced when my basement flooded, and the vendor is telling me they do not sell the cord separately. I just spent hours on chat with Amazon, who was graciously trying to find one, but couldn't ... I'm just shocked that the vendor does not offer a cord replacement. Can you imagine if Apple or Samsung did not sell cords to their devices? I asked the vendor who they order these from, but they did not seem to know, that they would have to ask their marketing staff, so I'm going to give them a few days to get back to me, but right now, I'm very displeased w/ their service ...
