[Verse 1] Before you ask for something better You should know I'm practiced at goodbyes Are you so deprived Think you're doing me a favor I don't need no lesser savior I'm doing fine [Chorus] Fragile things so close together Taped up broken from before Part of something or all of nothing A very long hard way to fall Go then, if you don't feel right Living in our home Choking, eat your pride alone [Verse 2] Needless tension, the walls around you Built before you came to tear them down It was you I found Take some time to think it over If it's so hard to walk this road we mind Then it's time to say goodbye [Chorus] Fragile things so close together Taped up broken from before Part of something or all of nothing A very long hard way to fall Go then, if you don't feel right Living in our home Choking, eat your pride alone [Outro] So go then, if you don't feel right Living in our home Choking, eat your pride alone If you don't feel right Living in our home Eat your pride alone
Jerry has become the ipso-facto lead singer at this point. DuVall does get some spotlight, but for the most part Jerry sings most of the solo vocals and DuVall joins in for the harmonized parts. I've wondered why this has become the case. I mean, it is Jerry's prerogative to sing the songs he writes since he's pretty much the primary songwriter. However, I have also wondered if it has anything to do with Layne's passing. Maybe he thinks fans will be more willing to accept him as the new lead singer since he's a legacy member rather than giving DuVall the spotlight. I mean, DuVall gets tons of hate as it is.

While this is a great album, it's simply lacking what once made AIC, _AIC._ I just can't seem to get around that in my head. William is a great singer, *BUT...* What _hasn't_ changed are Jerry's brutal and descriptive lyrics that cut to the bone. I find I literally have to keep tissue nearby if I spend too much brainpower concentrating on his lyrics. My gosh, the man has been hurt by so much death and unrequited love, you can _feel_ the pain & emotion. The fact that he is still with us today shows his strength of character. Though his words make me cry, I'm so very thankful that those words allowed him to express his emotions from over the last 20-30 years. Losing Layne was bad enough. Can't wait to see him "in person" next month! #prayforJerry
Much of the best art, especially music, is built upon pain. I’m a guitarist, and pain can really elevate one’s playing when you let it come through your instrument. Indeed, guitar playing can be painful when you’re first learning. You have to strip up your fingers building up your callouses, and some chords are just a bit painful to play because of how you have to bend or hold your fingers. But I digress, emotional pain is the real tool I refer to. Pain and anger are wonderful tools for music. I get more mileage out of them than love (though it’s a great source for pain). Life is suffering, and music is a fantastic conduit for managing that suffering.
This is one of their best albums ever...A masterpiece!
Jerry Cantrell is an amazing songwriter. This entire album proves it
Yep
Was it not proven in every other album? lol
The man is a sick guitar player!!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 It's like his fingers have been touched by Stevie can zant himself
Alice In Chains is such a wonderful band. The new and old music are equally great in my opinion.
micahw64 black people like Alice in Chains??
Mike Conville considering that William DuVall is Black I would assume, maybe?
micahw64 yea but he's not rappin about like murder, killings, hos, gats and thug and street life n stuff...so I'm surprised, that's all.
haha, true. im not a negro btw
micahw64 nah it's cool..I just have a lot of black friends and they give me shit on my music preference but they listen to shit...nowaddaummsaynnn?
[Verse 1]
Before you ask for something better
You should know I'm practiced at goodbyes
Are you so deprived
Think you're doing me a favor
I don't need no lesser savior
I'm doing fine
[Chorus]
Fragile things so close together
Taped up broken from before
Part of something or all of nothing
A very long hard way to fall
Go then, if you don't feel right
Living in our home
Choking, eat your pride alone
[Verse 2]
Needless tension, the walls around you
Built before you came to tear them down
It was you I found
Take some time to think it over
If it's so hard to walk this road we mind
Then it's time to say goodbye
[Chorus]
Fragile things so close together
Taped up broken from before
Part of something or all of nothing
A very long hard way to fall
Go then, if you don't feel right
Living in our home
Choking, eat your pride alone
[Outro]
So go then, if you don't feel right
Living in our home
Choking, eat your pride alone
If you don't feel right
Living in our home
Eat your pride alone

David Dropski Yes, I have. Personally, I think it's wrong. I'm not one to attack your beliefs, but I have mine.
I know what you're saying and it brings tears to my eyes. As soon as i read it. Why'd you do that man
Jerry seems to be the lead singer over duvall
Of course
Twitchy Paper well it is technically his band
Silver Fox i know but duvall is listed as the lead singer for some reason

Calvin Young it's a black thang
Jerry lost apart of f him self when Lane passed away. I think in spite of it all. Jerry writes songs as of Lane is beside him the whole time.
It’s hell to lose a brother. Some friends, they become more than friends, they become family, and losing family is hell.
