Get it into a 10 inch pot .. or larger .. DON'T WATER IT UNTIL IT STARTS TO WILT (If you're not sure if it's wilting, give it longer) Then, when you water it, it will pick up in a few hours This is the BEST way to ensure you never over water it
This video really helped me with my peace lily. I'm hoping that my peace will recover and grow healthy. You are marvelous and I love how you explain things.
Found the one little golden nugget I needed which is to plant in a smaller pot. My pot is too big. I have been doing everything right and it still wasn't thriving and now I understand why. I'm repotting today. Thanks so much.
This video helped to save my dying lily and before I was overwatering due to lack of skills 😢. 1 more thing , I did by providing them humidifier air to support their humid nature, these restored plant health
Thanks for posting this video 😊today! I was just looking at my peace lily the leaves are a bit crispy and brown, considering it’s supposed to be an easy plant to grow l am struggling with it 😢
If the leaves are crispy, maybe the air is too hot. In this season, we use heating a lot. Maybe it needs a humidifier to make the air around it more humid?
I’ve got a very small piece Lily stand it in my kitchen window nice and green and it’s growing more. How long does it take for the flowers to grow? Do I have to wait for it to get a bit bigger
Hello Thanks for sharing the information. Recently my peace lilies leaves were dropping but I watered every three days, the weather is cold though. There is too much dropping .Am I over watering ? Any advice please
If there is mold - yes. If not, you can just remove the soil from the roots, by shaking the roots a bit. What stays sticking to the roots is fine. Otherwise, if the roots are damaged too much, it may struggle a bit, when you repot it.
Thank you for your video. I found worms in the soil of my peace lily. Does that mean that there are rotten roots underneath? What soil is good for peace lilies?
I re-potted a big peace lily from a 10" into a 12" pot, because it seemed to need watering twice a week. Now its leaves are drooping, but the soil tests moist. I haven't watered it in a week, plant to wait a second week, & am hoping that the soil will dry & the plant will recover.
@@AnnasViolets I took it outside to pull it out of the pot. The roots more mostly white & healthy with a few rotten fine roots, which I brushed off. I mixed in perlite & orchid bark to loosen & aerate the soil. I watered just the root ball, not the surrounding soil & put the plant back into the pot, leaving the soil loose. Bringing it back indoors, I misted the leaves & covered the plant with a small plastic greenhouse & gave it artificial light by a north window. It seems to have fully recovered! I test for moisture with a moisture meter thrust into the root ball & water the roots but not the soil around the perimeter of the pot.
Thanks for sharing this video. I have a piece that was given to me. I potted it and the leaves have died but the new growth starts turning brown. Since it's so small I don't know how often to water, what kind of pot to use and what size. Do they like clay pots? It's only about 2in. tall. I really need some help.
Hi. What you describe seems to be root rot. They can grow well in clay and plastic pots. The most important don't overwater. If you think all roots may be rotten (you can take the plant out of the soil, check the roots), you can even put it in the water so that it grows roots first and then you can plant it again
@@AnnasViolets thank you so much. I did take it out of the pot which was too big and got the dirt off of it and the roots some were brown so I pulled them off and I put it in a little thing of water so I guess I will leave it a couple weeks and see how it does. It does have a little bit of new growth on it so hopefully it will be OK. I bought a little teeny pot to put it in when it gets some more growth.
I have a large peace lily I got in November and I’d know when to water it when the leaves drooped, but recently I water and they perked up, but drooped soon after and the leaves are turning yellow. What should I do?? Thanks
Hello I have this plant too and when I bought it, it was biig(each leaf about the size of a hand) but it started getting small and smaller! After two or three years, its leaves became tiny (each leaf about 2 cm). What should i do?
Gr. I just repotted mine because it was getting really packed, I gave water and it's drooping somewhat. Maybe I overwatered it. Do you think it will die because it was repotted?
Hi Ramza, how many days have passed since you repotted it. It wouldn't get rotten in 2-3 days. However, it may be either stress from repotting, or some roots were damaged while repotting. In both cases, it shall recover. Just don't put it under the direct sunlight.
@@AnnasViolets Thanks for replying Anna. I repotted it 2 days ago. When I came home today it was drooping even more. I checked the soil and it was pretty dry so I watered it. I'll just wait now and like you said keep it out of direct sunlight.
You can spray it so that the leaves get humidity. Maybe even make a small greenhouse effect, but covering it with a plastic bag. This way the leaves won't be damaged too much, until the roots will be able to get water tot he leaves
the way i understand it is that the wet soil kinda like suffocates the roots because it still needs oxygen. so its not the overwatering exactly, but the wet soil. Growing in water still gives the roots access to oxygen whereas the wet soil doesn't.
I got mine at the begging of March. Honestly I have a very hard time to keep it alive. It almost died 2 times already. Now is the 3rd time that the leaves turned yellow and completely down in just 1 day. From what I read it is over watering the problem, but I haven't water it for a week now.
I have what was big peace lily but shrinking & looking unhealthy. Even new growth turning brown. Unfortunately I don't have green thumb but love plants & think needs new soil. If there's root rot do I need to wash roots w something like I've heard some ppl say to do or would taking off anything rotted & new soil b enough? Haven't pulled out of pot yet to see how roots look but holes on side of pot have yellowish brown crust around them & looks like on roots also from what can see.
Don't think that not having a green thumb causes your plants not to grow well. lack of understanding what the plant needs is always the reason for a failed growth. If there is a root rot remove those rotten brown roots more importantly choose a well draining soil. Peace lily needs sunlight but not direct sun water them at least once a week. Peace lily is not a heavy feeder so avoid frequent fertilization. My two peace lily died of too much osmocote fertilizer and I can't even say that I gave them too much. Also make sure you give them clean water fertiled water. I've seen my peace lily leaves grow bigger compared to when I'm giving them just tap water thats before they died of over fertilization. Rain water is good for plant.
@@joelg.47 thanks unfortunately I tried taking out of pot & removing all soil, dead roots like saw in videos but after repotted the whole plant died. I buy distilled water to water plants.
Yes, Ivey. You can, if the plants are big. Sometimes, the plant may be still attached to the mother plant and have some tiny roots. If both plants look mature, most probably they already have a well-developed root system :)
My peace lily is drooping and it’s in water but I can’t find any video link or anything telling me why is she drooping and she’s only sitting in water and I’ve already removed all the bad leaves and I’ve already removed the rotten roots
Hi, I think there may be 3 reasons for it. Either you didn't cut the rotten parts till fresh tissue and the dead cells cannot absorb water. Or It doesn't have many roots and it's very hot with low air humidity so the leaves cannot get humidity from the air and get wilted. Or you put the plant too deep in the water. Only the bottom part of the stem shall touch the water. If it's too deep, it will continue to get rotten
Honestly, I have never use it. I use it only to clean the rotten roots of orchids and I think sometimes thee healthy roots even suffer from it. So, I am a bit careful with it. What's your experience with it? Do you recommend using it?
@@AnnasViolets if my plants have root rot I allways soak the roots with water/hidrogen peroxide solution 4:1 for 30 minutes after I pot the plant to another pot with fresh soil. I had never problem with this method. 😊
