Would you travel to this place if you could? Let me know in the comments! Also this is the first episode of a vlog series. Next episodes will cover the other bird species of Helgoland, and a third one will be about the neighbouring island. Looking forward to hear your thoughts and feedback about this vlog style so I can fine tune for the next episodes! :)
I would but home commitments don't currently allow. But I do live ten minutes away from a pond with two swans three signets a grey heron two cormorants lots of mallards and other visiting birds / animals. I am very lucky to get as close as I do. Getting pictures of a grey heron over the past few weeks has been very good for me.
Thank you for your Video 😊I will go in some weeks and had now a little insight about Helgoland, excited to visit this island. I hope the gannets will still be there🤩
Yes, I also spent a week on Helgoland this year in june to take some photos and videos. It's very relaxing on the island and I'll be there again next year. The one gannet has unfortunately had the green rope around its neck for over 2 years 😕. Thanks for sharing your experiences on the island. 👍
The Northern gannets are amazing, and it was cool to see them up close next to their chicks. You really captured the beauty of Helgoland. Looking forward to more of your vlogs!
Helgoland is such a great place for nature lovers and photographers! I’ve been there twice for several days years ago (first time still with an analog SLR). And just last Saturday I was there on a day trip with my family. Was able to get one or two really nice pictures even with these limited conditions. Definitely need to come back for a couple of days!
Hey Sabrina, nice to hear you're also a bit of a Helgoland regular! It is a wonderful place, even with very limited time the photo opportunities are endless :)
Very interested in your insights. This is my third video of yours. You didn't seem happy? It didn't turn out as you planned. But... Wow what a wonderful place you were in. Probably cost a lot of money and didn't get the shots you seek.
Hello Mary! :) I'm not sure why you got the impression I wasn't happy, because some of my happiest moments are related to that island and this trip (despite my lens broke!) :) Also I am not sure what you're referring to when you say it didn't turned out as I planned? If it is maybe that I mentioned at the beginning I was after some nice light? But indeed I got it as shown in the second part of the video. And I got all the shots I wanted to get out of this trip, for example documenting chicks and using colours :)
Look for trains from Brussels to Hamburg or Cuxhaven. Getting to Hamburg is easier (and a train less) but the catamaran from there has far higher chances of getting cancelled for weather reasons, whereas from Cuxhaven there's a ferry that is way more reliable. Anyway it is quite a long journey with changes so difficult to depart from Belgium and get on Helgoland in the same day using public transport (unfortunately)
