Question: Do you think that the James Franco snub will have a backlash against Men accused in the Industry and the me too movement? It made me upset of how allegations are creating narratives to stories that might not be true. I felt like he was nominated, and the academy probably threw out his nomination.
Grace: "She's a female J.K. Simmons" me: *imagines J.K. Simmons with that wig* OH MY GOD and had to laugh at the another episode of FEUD: Grace vs Jessica Chastain. Oh the shade of it all!
I agree with you. I've read the book and when I thought of him as Oliver I actually thought he was just too handsome it would be distracting. I was glad to find out that 1) I couldn't be more wrong, he was perfectly cast and 2) his character was even richer, more complex and interesting than the book (and I love the book dearly). And that was just his own merit. I hope he'll get to do something as interesting as that in the future.
Yah I know. But Grace, the OP and I all think it was the greatest musical. So you are in the minority here with your thinking. That song has been listened to 7 million times on TH-cam.
Wasnt Evermore in the stage version of Beauty and the Beast? I dont beleive it qualified. Love the song though! Gotta say, my favorite musical was The Greatest Showman 🤗👌
Would have loved to see a director nomination for Luca Guadagnino, as well as best supporting actor for Michael Stuhlbarg. Really happy for Daniel Kaluuya and Get Out in general. Also think it would have been cool for It to win something make up/costume related but I guess the studio didnt really push the movie for awards season.
I’m glad Logan got nominated and yes I do love Wonder Woman, it is my favorite movie of 2017and 2nd being The Shape of Water; however I hate to say it, but I think WW’s third act severally damaged it when it came to prestige nominations; as well as the unfortunate disappointment of Justice League. Which took any special light away WW had on it and turned the remaining acclaim and light into a little brighter than dim bulb.
I certainly don't think Wonder Woman is award-worthy so I'm not bummed it didn't get any, however, in saying that, Logan for best adapted screenplay, really ? Logan, like Wonder Woman, is a perfectly good Superhero film but very overrated
Jennifer McMahon Yeah, I agree. I really liked the movie and it would’ve been nice if it got nominated. But, I’m not very surprised or disappointed that it didn’t.
Frank Marricone What's so unique about wonder woman?? It's the same hero jorney we have seen a milion times, the CGI was unwatchable, the villan is laughable and the fight scenes are just slow motion basically. I honestly think this movie is praised just because the main character is a super powerfull woman. code3210code you are correct but some people believe that it may get Oscar becoz the other DC movies failed. But for now it doesn't matter if the movie good or not , what matters is what critics say.
Grace you say Saoirse Ronan should win and the reasoning you give is " She has been nominated three times already, so lets give her an oscar and get her career moving". I have to respectfully disagree with this line of reasoning as I feel that the award should go to the best performance out of the five nominees and not for pushing someones career forward.
If there was a clear stand out then obviously I would go with them, but for Best Actress I thought the performances were all on par - good but not perfect or career defining.
Frustrated for what ? Tragic for what ? Wonder Woman was a good movie, but that's it. That's why it didn't make the cut, like many over good average movies. Frankly, it's getting tiresome, if the only argument for WW making it to the Oscar is "its legacy" and "what it represents", then yeah, it didn't deserve to be nominated. I don't know in what universe Wonder Woman would be in the same realm than the Dark Knight quality-wise by the way, that's absurd.
Wonder Woman is the most mediocre piece of.. just.. nothingness! ...It's nothing. honestly. It's just a wannabe combination of Cap 1 & Thor 1 ..and it should be forgotten.
James Franco was completely snubbed, but it's not surprising. Hollywood is trying to act shocked and appalled by these accusations, yet most of them have probably also participated in sketchy encounters and career "boosts". They shouldn't get the luxury of acting offended when they've all been keeping these skeletons hidden for decades. But more importantly, this "guilty until proven innocent" mindset is stupid and dangerous.
Effervvescent “Guilt until proven innocent” refers to being prosecuted, not social consequences. Stop trying to use that to add to a counter victimization. I’m not saying James did everything the allegations said he did, it’s just the fallacious counter arguments that need to be called out. Otherwise legit conversations will continue to be dismissed.
Maybe you struggle with reading comprehension because you're too focused on using your thesaurus, but you'll notice that i said a "guilty until proven innocent" MINDSET. What else would you call it when all of mainstream society jumps on a witch hunt "bandwagon" for a man after an accusation that comes with no proof? He is GUILTY in the eyes of society UNTIL some evidence (which is nearly impossible to gather) proves he is INNOCENT. Did capitalizing those words make it easier for you to understand that a phrase can also have an explicit meaning without always being a legal term? That's the whole point of this conversation. Demonizing and punishing people without any proof or evidence is un-American.
Effervvescent You act like I used so many "fancy" words, so you're just trying to demean my intelligence as a counter argument. And to go to the extreme of "jumping on the bandwagon" seems forced when many alleged predators still are working and have not faced consequences. You're just using specific examples to generalize the entire situation when others have been proven guilty and are actually guilty. But there is conveniently no focus on them. Selective outrage makes intent very transparent. And you're trying to use patriotism as a defense when that's not relevant here. What you stated applies to any functioning society.
aeris44 you say a lot of words, but you don't really say anything... Weird. You're dancing all around the op's point and just trying to argue about something. Shut up dude 🙄 And the last part of what you said isn't even true. There are functioning societies that DO believe in guilty until proven innocent like uh... Italy?
Kyle Love Actually I did focus on his generalizations of the concept. That is addressing his argument, just not in the way you like I guess so you're trying to manipulate this by calling it "dancing" which you are pretty hypocritical about. I will admit I was hyperbolic with "functioning society" but using "patriotism" still wasnt relevant in the situation, just a way to grab at emotions (I should have said this instead). See, this is addressing what he stated, by not agreeing with what he said with criticisms. Don't act like I didnt bring up things about the concept. I didnt think this would need explanation but I was wrong. Honestly y'all just feel like you're being talked down to. Tough crap, stay off the internet if you want keep yourself safe and don't wanna hear these things.
Yes I am aware he won it in the end! Leo maybe wasn't the best example.. just tried to think about someone who always gets nominated and is universally recognised as a great actor! My point was that Mr Deakins has been working on some of the best looking movies ever made.. Shawshank for example, highest rated movie of all time. 14 nominations and no wins don't make sense to me.
Many fanboy friendly movies are not nominated for Oscars but still remain popular. You can be a good movie without being nominated especially since the taste of academy voters is pretty different from that of general audiences. Also, just because it's nominated for an Oscar doesn't mean the movie will remain popular or well regarded in the future. I think Wonder Woman will still be well regarded considering how poorly received the other DC movies have been. Sure, detractors might become more vocal, but I think that is expected for any movie that was really popular for a time.
Midnight Bard Yeah and it's not like Suicide Squad is suddenly considered a good movie because it won for makeup and hair. Wonder Woman wasn't outstanding in any category, it was simply competent overall. No idea why Grace is so hung up on this. Any semblance of objectivity seems to go out the window when it comes to WW
And i thought Wonder Woman wasn't all that great, i know it had a lot of firsts for cinema, but it didnt resonate as well as other movies did for me. It wasn't as good as all the movies in all the categories. It was *OK* i didnt understand all the hype around it after i watched it.
Basically all she had to say about Lady Bird is how it stole Wonder Woman's not-there-to-begin-with chances of being nominated. That's not very nice. But is always interesting to hear her opinion anyway.
I thought it was crazy when she said that. Aside from being female centric/directed movies, Lady Bird and WW have little to nothing in common. They were not competing for the spot, so I don't see how Lady Bird could've stolen anything from WW.
Lady Bird was great and so is Gerwig. It's not that there is no space for women the directing category, it's that Wonder Woman wasn't an amazingly directed film. Gerwig could have easily been taken out for Mcdonagh. Still happy for Gretta though.
It's not that Wonder Woman wasn't IMPORTANT enough to recognize.. it's the fact that it wasn't GOOD enough. The films that were nominated are FAR better and more deserving than Wonder Woman.
The only thing I'd maybe have nominated Wonder Woman for is Best Original Score (for "No Man's Land"), Production Design (for Themyscira), or Sound Mixing/Editing. But I don't think it was snubbed in any category.
Animated Feature Film category was the one that annoyed me most Mary and the Witch's Flower, In This Corner Of The World, A Silent Voice and Your Name (if you went by US release i think it still counts?) all deserved a nomination more than Boss Baby. Hell, I'd rather watch In a Heartbeat 500 times over than a single second of BB. It's a shame because the oscars have nominated non western animations before, some even winning (Spirited Away!) but to completely snub Your Name and A Silent Voice is horrible.
Dani Mary and the Witch's Flower came out too late to be nominated this year, and Your Name is technically from last year (snubbed) but I do agree with A Silent Voice, much better than Boss Baby, then again, there wasn't much competion this year for animation, I would still give it to Coco.
Your Name technically would have qualified for last year, and last year was a great year for animation. It didn't have a chance against the Hollywood fare. This year has been a pretty crappy year for animation though, in the US anyway.
Wonder Woman as a piece of history and culture is important. But, as a movie it really isn't anything that special. The Oscars have never recognized films for their impact on society, they recognize GOOD movies. At the end of the day, it is a pretty generic superhero film with the added flare of being female-led.
If Winter Soldier never got a nomination, no way would Wonder Woman deserve a nomination. It was a good movie but not great. Being the first successful female superhero movie is a major step forward for women and the genre but the script and material wasn't Oscar worthy.
No, it's not just you're opinion i share, it's a FACT. Film isn't as mystical of a thing as people think. There are clear things witch make something good good and bad bad and Logan is bloody good ! :)
Diana Exactly ! But, Logan was more of a charactery study and a emotional knock out, and besides emotiones and hand to hand combat those are 2 things Nolan just doesn't know how to do. Sadly. H.Jacman came up with the story, he pushed for it to be made, he produced it, he stared in it and did a damn phenomenal job, better than anything in the Nolan thrilogy, besides Joker, he didn't emote much.
WW not getting nominated is probably a blessing in disguise, coz if it would have been nominated, the backlash would have extended and dented the WW 2 boxoffice.
I don't think Hollywood looked at Wonder Woman and said it wasn't important enough, but that it wasn't good enough. And, because of that, it's legacy won't be harmed, at least with respect to it's cultural significance. The Oscars are not a measure of societal impact, but of the value of a film from the perspective of it's worth as a movie. Hence there not being a category for "Represents a major shift within society", but instead categories for cinematography.
The Oscars are 100% a measure of societal impact - Exhibit A: Moonlight's win last year. Certainly not the BEST movie of the year, but incredibly important in shining a much needed light on people of color in the LGBT community.
I disagree with the "twist" in Get Out as said "twist" is an amazing social commentary plot point and Jordan Peele deserves an Oscar for being able to deliver such an interesting, unique, revealing and very present script without sacrificing entertainment. He should win and I hope will win.
She like alot of people who are saying Get Out shouldn't of been nominated, was uncomfortable with the racism in the movie. Hell i remember her hating on the trailer for those same reasons.
Anton Riley It still doesn't mean that the film isn't brilliantly made. And being uncomfortable with films addressing racism doesn't mean that people should ignore it or even (as you say) shit on it - I frankly find that response to be pathetic and wrong.
I don't think the lack of an academy nomination hurts Wonder Woman's reputation/legacy. I think people recognize it as a real historic moment for female representation in media/cinema. How many other iconic movies weren't nominated for Oscars? It's still stands tall in my eyes
historic....ok never got the hype it, doubt it has really made a difference to how woman are seen in media or hollywood, but it was fun at talking about stuff like that at the time the movie itself is extremely forgetful.
I am actually really happy with the nominations. I love WW, and I appreciate the fact that is the first female led superhero movie and the whole creative team was great but I don't think it was an Oscar worthy movie.
Phantom Thread is a movie which every film lover should watch, its pure art And Christopher Nolan ultimately deserves a nomination and he got it And WW never deserved anything,it was good but definitely not a great movie, It’s like a 7.5/10 or like a 7
My reaction to Wonder Woman not getting nominated: HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Am I the only one who remembers Jake Gyllenhaal's amazing performance in Stronger. They got to nominate him again!!! He was so great and his performance was underrated!!!!!
Nah WW was good but not even close to be oscar worthy. It wasnt even the best Comic Book movie of the year. The Dark Knight: dont you dare compare me with Wonder Woman.
They are more about achievement in films than ever judging by the small art films that make it to the show (and the rest of award season) than ever if anything. We could have never dreamed of seeing these smaller fantastic films in there. Really great these last few years.
Would've liked to see Logan nominated for best actor. Jackman hit all the right notes imo. Don't care if comic book movies are considered low brow art. Then again, awards aren't a surefire way of determining a good movie.
So Chris Nolan shouldn't be nominated because it wasn't impressive work from him; but you're okay to Jordan and Greta being nominated for their films? i love "get out" and "lady bird" but Chris Nolan can make those films in his sleep; hell, in his coma!
I am one of the those that liked Dunkirk but didn't think it was as impressive. If he wins it will be his THE DEPARTED. INCEPTION, PRESTIGE and DARK KNIGHT are way, way better films.
I'm rooting for Margot Robbie for best actress. I think she actually did a phenomenal job transforming and put immense effort into her role. Cannot say the same for Saoirse Ronan's archetypical role.
I didn't like Wonder Woman either. There are better movies at the DCEU and obviously comic book movies in general. Feminists were pushing hard for the Oscar nomination of this movie.
Your insights are amusing and ring true, Grace - BUT you need in any film awards nominations focus on Best Editing. It is the most crucial element and indicator of any category concerning film-making.
Beyond the trailer Go home you are drunk! Logical problems with Get Out? Are you serious? If you can’t understand it, can’t handle it, it’s not Jordan Peele’s mistake. This is the only category where Get Out 100% gonna win. This script was one of best of this decade. Mesmerizing! I loved it.
I haven't even seen The Disaster Artist yet and I'm upset that James Franco wasn't nominated. The Oscars are just a joke... I think I'll skip out on it this year.
The Disaster Artist was my favorite film of 2017. I had such a great time in the theater. It was good. He deserved it. I feel like they just stuck Daniel Day-Lewis in there b/c of the twitter allegations. Sad. He deserved it.
CLIFT CINEMA watched every year since 91 and I bailed out a few years ago. Not about awarding great films and performances anymore. All political bullshit.
I'm laughing that grace thinks Get Out third act was horrible when it was perfect and Wonder Women third act was just horrible and that's what weighted down the film .
Triple -A ikr 😂 I almost died, have been laughing for minutes. Get Out’ ending doesn’t only fit the context of its own movie but also in general, whereas Wonder Woman doesn’t and makes the movie soo unoriginal
It's her opinion and I respect that but I disagree completely. I thought Get Out was great from beginning to end, while the third act of WW reminded me too much of Captain America: The First Avenger, but I actually liked CATFA third act a little better.
Christopher Nolan not receiving even a directing nomination for movies like Inception and The Dark Knight was so absurd that you have to nominate him, whether you liked Dunkirk or not.
Exactly!!!! I mean I love Gary Oldman....but he got all the other awards. And so what Timmy is young and it's his first...I don't see why that is a problem. It was one of the best performances I've ever seen.
IreneShardaForever I agree he is a well seasoned actor and has been around for a long time but surely that shouldn't mean that he is guaranteed an award because he's not been fortunate enough to win one in the past. Cmbyn was so different and far more of a challenge in terms of acting. But grace is probably right Academy voters r very predictable
Please, please, PLEASE let there be someone out there who thinks that Sally Hawkins should win for Shape of Water. Please tell me that there are people out there who want that...
Daniel Day should win. He was freaking amazing. Sally Hawkings - Amazing!!! Should win!!! Shape of water actor for best supporting. Metcalf was awesome in Lady Bird, but I just saw Phantom Thread and she was powerful! She went toe to toe with Daniel Day!!!
Denzel got a nom instead of Franco? The hell? I am so glad that Logan got atleast one nom Blade Runner deserves all the noms! Hope Deakins finally receives his long awaited Cinematography Oscar
Is “such and such already has an Oscar” or “this is such and such’s last chance to win an Oscar” a legitimate reason to deny or give the Oscar? Shouldn’t it be based on actual performance compared to the other nominees?
Maybe Franco should be relieved. History suggests that an Oscar nod or win may not be an immediate career boost? Just ask Renee Zellweger, Halle Berry, Catherine Zeta Jones, Adrian Brody, Mira Sorvino, Hilary Swank, Helen Hunt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cher, Kim Basinger, Mercedes Ruehl, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jean Dujardin, Roberto Benigni, Marlee Matlin, Tatum O'Neal.....to name but a few!
Almost every actor on that list is a woman, and most women simply don't get great work when they've reached a certain age. Sad but true. Dujardin and Benigni were never gonna have Hollywood careers.
Some of you like to preach about Logan when it comes to awards because you fucking love it and would be pissed if it wasnt nominated. Wonder Woman was a successful DCEU movie with a female lead - this meant something for woman so let Grace preach and talk about her liking of Wonder Woman and why she is frustrated. It will be the same when Black Panther comes out, it will mean something for black people. Dont think i need to say more other than stop bashing Grace for her opinions. If her WW talk bothers you so much, then just skip that part. Funny, since the majority of complaints come from men.
Hi Grace, question: Who do you think shoud perform "This is me" at the ceremony? i know usually the original actress who performs it in the movie does it (in this case Chrissy Metz), but given the actual situation in Hollywod of rape/abuse allegations and the popularity of Kesha and her very well-documented situation with her ex-producer, do you think she would be more deserving of performing that song at the oscars? i know she only sings the pop version at the end credits but i think she performing it, would give it more credibility given her backstory. Thank you for your time.
Grace, are you planning to do a review for shape of water? I've heard a lot of mixed things about it and I'm not sure if I should see the film or not. I always hold your opinion in high regard so I would love to hear your thoughts.
Your review for Call Me By Your Name had you singing its praises and seemingly predicting an Oscar sweep... now you say it neither will nor should win anything. That's interesting.
*Get Out did not deserve all the praise.* I admit the screenplay is excellent, definitely earned that one, but everything else? The lead actor even got a nomination, are you kidding me? Compare his performance with everyone else nominated. It's laughable.
I liked the film but it's crazy how much praise it's getting. It's one of the most basic cliche movies I've ever seen. Only good thing in it was the racism and it's not executed as well as it should be
Grace! Did you see Frances McDormads acceptance speech at the SAG awards? She basically pointed out how there younger nominees deserved the award instead of her
Frances McDormand's character in Three Billboards actually does have a character arc. Her slight hinting at not taking revenge on the man and 'deciding on the way'' implies she has doubts. Vengeance is a core theme in the film in which she acts upon. Although it is subtle, the scene implies that she isn't as fixated on having retribution anymore and is ready to move on. Great video but!
Happy Oscar Season! :) Also, there are CHAPTER TIMES in the video description!
Beyond The Trailer hey Grace, are you going to do audience predictions/votes this year?
Yes!
Beyond The Trailer I’m disappointed IT didn’t make it
Yes!!James is totally snubbed,so sad!his performance was phenomenal
Question: Do you think that the James Franco snub will have a backlash against Men accused in the Industry and the me too movement? It made me upset of how allegations are creating narratives to stories that might not be true. I felt like he was nominated, and the academy probably threw out his nomination.
Meryl Streep and Denzel filling up a spot in the best actress and actor category again, how shocking.....
I know right.... Just the same shit every year lol
😂😂😂
I looooove Meryl, but I feel they left out Chastain for Meryl.
Rami Alj Denzel I feel is less deservin. If Franco didn't have those allegations he totally would of gotten Denzel's nom
SuperPunch76 no it's only 5 for for the other categories except makeup which is only 3.
I loved Wonder Woman, but other than costume design there wasn't a single thing it deserved to be nominated for over the films that were nominated.
Grace: "She's a female J.K. Simmons"
me: *imagines J.K. Simmons with that wig* OH MY GOD
and had to laugh at the another episode of FEUD: Grace vs Jessica Chastain. Oh the shade of it all!
;)
You can't complain about Get Out's third act while at the same time insisting Wonder Woman got snubbed.
She's only complaining about that for Best Screenplay, not for any award. She said as much.
THANK YOU
True.
Facts
There is one snub that really annoys me nothing for Luca guadagniono for the direction of call me by your name that's a really well directed flim
Armie Hammer was robbed of his nomination.
Armie Hammer, maybe. Michael Stuhlbarg, DEFINETLY
Wonder woman wasn't a great film. It was a good film but Logan definitely deserved more nominations.
Agreed.
It was pretty good im just suprised not really upset
Yes!
Wonder Woman is a pretty good movie but it's not something that is close to being award worthy.
Specially Oscars. i could've seen it being nominated for a Golden Globe maybe but come on. it's The Academy.
But Logan is? Get out of here
Marauder Of Diagon Alley Logan had stronger performances, dialogue, and emotional weight imo.
Marauder Of Diagon Alley way more than Wonder Woman was
Marauder Of Diagon Alley logan did something new wonderwoman only reason to win is that it has a female lead
If I got a dollar everytime Grace brings WW into the conversation Lol
J.L Clever you would be a millionaire?
Anubhab Borah not sure millionare but with extra cash in my pocket Lol
go back and watch the videos, you won be a millionaire. lol
J.L Clever ah. Being realistic. I like it. :)
I would have more money than George Lucas!
I'm shocked Evermore from Beauty and the Beast didn't get nominated for Best Original Song.
I agree. And the movie is hardly mediocre earning 1.23 billion dollars. It was the best musical movie.
Yah I know. But Grace, the OP and I all think it was the greatest musical. So you are in the minority here with your thinking. That song has been listened to 7 million times on TH-cam.
Alyssa Anderson the original beats it by a mile ,and it's a animation movie . The greatest showmen's originals are way better.
Was Evermore part of the Beauty & Beast original SOundtrack? or Was specifically written for the film?
If so, its not an Original Song.
Jennifer McMahon wonder woman should have gotten nominated before Logan and I loved them both but patty Jenkins deserves something!
Jennifer McMahon Wonder Woman's third act is definitely disappointing and it's why I don't rate it higher
don’t forgot to add that nothing about it is particularly special
Jennifer McMahon Yeah, I agree. I really liked the movie and it would’ve been nice if it got nominated. But, I’m not very surprised or disappointed that it didn’t.
this will not "hurt Wonder Woman's legacy", you're getting a little overemotional with that one.
It could actually.
Robert E. O. Speedwagon I second this.
nope it had a lot more to present then your average superhero film. WW and dark knight are on a whole other level
Nuggetfire 59 Spider man 2 won for visual effects
Frank Marricone What's so unique about wonder woman?? It's the same hero jorney we have seen a milion times, the CGI was unwatchable, the villan is laughable and the fight scenes are just slow motion basically. I honestly think this movie is praised just because the main character is a super powerfull woman. Why is it the duty of the Academy to secure the legacy of Wonder Woman? Where did it even deserve a nomination above the chose nominees. COME ON.
Even Pure Shit movies like The Last Jedi got 2 nominations
Wonder Woman is a good movie, that's it. Not oscar worthy at all !
If Wonder Woman isn't Oscar worthy neither is Get Out lol
Wonder Woman was a solid movie that collapsed in quality and story in it's final act. Get Out is a methodical and brilliantly done movie from start to finish. Wonder Woman seems to get boosted and overrated because it's a female lead, when it should have focused more on being a good quality movie in all acts not just the first two.
The Fact that franco didn't get nominated just shows how much these awards shows are trying to be political
Liam McCarthy there’s always one person who’s gonna get snubbed it’s damn near impossible to recognize everyone
ultra man Ya but he got nominated everywhere else and won multiple. If that happened with 3 billboards it should be the same with franco. The only thing that wouldn't have bothered me about it is if Hugh jackman or patrick stewart got a nomination for logan
^ Gary Oldman got nominated and he also had controversies surrounding him.
either way, I think the list of actors who were nominated gave solid performances.
Pushing WW because of #womenpower thing would be dumb especially in a year with a lot better comic book movies or the similar movies to say the least.
code3210code you are correct but some people believe that it may get Oscar becoz the other DC movies failed. But for now it doesn't matter if the movie good or not , what matters is what critics say.
I’m so angry that Blade Runner didn’t get a best picture or best director nomination
Fantastic movie. Interlinked. Cells. Cells.
Abid. Mohammed Hassan. BORING!! :o
Abid. Mohammed Hassan. Oh boring like Dunkirk
Angelooo true
Agree. I think BLADE RUNNER is the best film of 2017. Bad box office hurt its awards buzz, which is silly.
But... when did Johnny Depp won a Oscar?
Frustrated for what ? Tragic for what ? Wonder Woman was a good movie, but that's it. That's why it didn't make the cut, like many over good average movies. It wasn’t even the best comic book movie of the year... Logan was
Member Barries stop hating it’s a good movie just not Oscar worthy and your just marvel fanboying and I prefer marvel...
James Franco was completely snubbed, but it's not surprising.
Roger Deakins is the DiCaprio of cinematography.. The man can do no wrong but can't seem to get a win either.
Salmonero at least Leo got a win.
Apart from The Wolf of Wall Street I've never found Leo to be THAT great. Roger Deakins does always deliver amazing work though
How about the Amy Adams of cinematography?
Don’t be sure that in every year that Dicaprio was nominated, there wasn’t a better acting by someone else.
Midnight Bard . Your dead on.
Midnight Bard Yeah and it's not like Suicide Squad is suddenly considered a good movie because it won for makeup and hair. Wonder Woman wasn't outstanding in any category, it was simply competent overall. No idea why Grace is so hung up on this. Any semblance of objectivity seems to go out the window when it comes to WW
trax72 yep I'm with you and I'm one of the people who really loved Wonder Woman.
Animated Feature Film category was the one that annoyed me most
Mary and the Witch's Flower, In This Corner Of The World, A Silent Voice and Your Name (if you went by US release i think it still counts?) all deserved a nomination more than Boss Baby.
Lego Batman was also snubbed. What is it with the Academy and Lego Movies
If they wanted to pick a DreamWorks movie then pick Captain Underpants the better of the DreamWorks movies last year by far.
Your Name technically would have qualified for last year, and last year was a great year for animation. It didn't have a chance against the Hollywood fare. This year has been a pretty crappy year for animation though, in the US anyway.
Yeah, Boss Baby sucked.
Wonder Woman as a piece of history and culture is important. But, as a movie it really isn't anything that special. The Oscars have never recognized films for their impact on society, they recognize GOOD movies. At the end of the day, it is a pretty generic superhero film with the added flare of being female-led.
AT MAX true
Wonder woman was not that good get over it
If Winter Soldier never got a nomination, no way would Wonder Woman deserve a nomination. It was a good movie but not great. Being the first successful female superhero movie is a major step forward for women and the genre but the script and material wasn't Oscar worthy.
Winter Soldier got nominated for best visual effects
I hope Logan wins something
Shane Gillespie it only got nonmineted for best adapted screenplay.
The way Logan is treated by the academy is criminal. Just like Dark knight in 2008.
Me too, it was such a great film in my opinion.
What!! NO! NO! The Shape of Water SHOULD WINNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & Guillermo Del Toro & ..Sally Hawkins
Agreed the oscars are not about quality movies. Just politics.
Her logic makes no sense, just cos a movie doesn’t get an Oscar nom that means it can’t test the end of time? 🤔
historic....ok never got the hype it, doubt it has really made a difference to how woman are seen in media or hollywood, but it was fun at talking about stuff like that at the time the movie itself is extremely forgetful.
I am actually really happy with the nominations. I love WW, and I appreciate the fact that is the first female led superhero movie and the whole creative team was great but I don't think it was an Oscar worthy movie.
I watched Wonder Woman 2 TIMES!!! again!!! & Let me just say the movie does not hold up its charm in multiple viewings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
singhk true
Logan deserved its single nomination, happy to see it recognised :)
The only sad snub was Disaster Artist
call me by your name should win something
Sara OD
I hope not
mystery of love better get that dang Oscar.
Adapted Screenplay
Mystery of Love by Sufjan Stevens should win. I'm shocked by the amount of people who still have no idea who Sufjan is.
Common you could have been supportive of Greta Gerwig but no, you made it about WW.
Patrick Stewart should have been nominated at least
I’m really mad that boss baby beat out the LEGO Batman movie🙄
Wow that evil smile after the comment about Jessica Chastain😂
It was perfect haha
Bitches be bitches right?
Blade Runner 2049 = fantastic visual movie. Looks fantastic in 4k Blu-ray.
Phantom Thread is a movie which every film lover should watch, its pure art
And Christopher Nolan ultimately deserves a nomination and he got it
And WW never deserved anything,it was good but definitely not a great movie,
It’s like a 7.5/10 or like a 7
immaSavage Bruh i agree. I stopped video after she said phantom thread was the worst movie of year. She can't understand the good cinema
I nearly busted a gut laughing when you said "Black hole Gravitational Pull Of Negativity". You need to trademark that.
BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Thank God.
Wonder woman is better tbh
Are you twelve?
Abe Lincoln you’re stupid if you think Wonder Woman is better than TDK or just a feminist
Abe Lincoln you wot m8? You must be a feminist to say that
Abe Lincoln than the dark knight?!
After watching the nominations being announced this morning, I kinda want Tiffany Hadish and Andy Serkis to host the Oscars
Is the Oscars still about finest achievements in films?
Was it ever?
Peter Frank is about how much you throw money at them.
Peter Frank goodquestion
Peter Frank nope.
You are right about that!
Grace I honestly nerver considered Wonder Woman for the Oscars, is crazy how people got on that train
So Chris Nolan shouldn't be nominated because it wasn't impressive work from him; but you're okay to Jordan and Greta being nominated for their films? i love "get out" and "lady bird" but Chris Nolan can make those films in his sleep; hell, in his coma!
Thank you men!!!!!
I am one of the those that liked Dunkirk but didn't think it was as impressive. If he wins it will be his THE DEPARTED. INCEPTION, PRESTIGE and DARK KNIGHT are way, way better films.
M PG but THE DEPARTED was a fantastic film.
Nonetheless, she jabbed at Patty Jenkins not being there after that, saying Nolan shouldn't be... tf's wrong with her?
The Departed wasn't directed by Nolan though.
I'm rooting for Margot Robbie for best actress. I think she actually did a phenomenal job transforming and put immense effort into her role. Cannot say the same for Saoirse Ronan's archetypical role.
Was I the only one who didn’t like Wonder Woman?
georgia123 and yeah ww is an ok cbm movie, it's a one time watch movie
You are not alone. The movie was generic, the lead can’t act and that third act......oh god that third act.
I didn't like Wonder Woman either. There are better movies at the DCEU and obviously comic book movies in general. Feminists were pushing hard for the Oscar nomination of this movie.
No
Too much hype for me and I always said that if it was a man then it would get okay reviews
The thing about Wonder Woman, is that it's not about it being important, the Oscars go by how good the actual movie is
Your insights are amusing and ring true, Grace - BUT you need in any film awards nominations focus on Best Editing. It is the most crucial element and indicator of any category concerning film-making.
When Grace gave that quick smile about Jessica Chastain being shut out of actress I laughed so hard LOOOL
Mad Max - Fury Road is a reboot not a sequel &&&..BLADE RUNNER - 2049 IS A MASTERPIECE!!!
Been waitin for this all day
Beyond the trailer Go home you are drunk! Logical problems with Get Out? Are you serious? If you can’t understand it, can’t handle it, it’s not Jordan Peele’s mistake. This is the only category where Get Out 100% gonna win. This script was one of best of this decade. Mesmerizing! I loved it.
Where is Beauty and the Beast for best original song and best original score ??!!!!
The score wasn't entirely original.
Lego Batman should’ve at least gotten a nomination
MegaSoulHero yeah is better film then boss baby and ferbind. As well silent voice should be nonmineted for best animated film.
Rachel Wood umm no they stuck the other Daniel in there. You know the one without 3 Best Actor Oscars?
CLIFT CINEMA I think the reason he wasn't nominated was because of the sexual misconduct allegations.
Brandon Badgett Yeah that's bullshit.
How dare you shit on the Star Wars score if you didn't even fucking listen to it. And yes, there was new shit in it, and it was awesome.
I WANT TIMOTHEE CHALAMET 2 WIN
Exactly!!!! I mean I love Gary Oldman....but he got all the other awards. And so what Timmy is young and it's his first...I don't see why that is a problem. It was one of the best performances I've ever seen.
Because Chalamet will have plenty of future chances. Oldman is a veteran and its finally his time.
The Boss Baby got a nomination...how?
Your Name, A Silent Voice
almost empty category
But defo that category is weak
I love your candid honesty - keep it up! BTW I think there needs to be a drinking game every time you mention Wonder Woman LOL
Please, please, PLEASE let there be someone out there who thinks that Sally Hawkins should win for Shape of Water. Please tell me that there are people out there who want that...
Hong Chau was SO snubbed for Downsizing. She was incredible
2017 was a crowded year for performances.
The hell?
I am so glad that Logan got atleast one nom
Blade Runner deserves all the noms!
Frances McDormand goes from very angry to angry. That's a more believable arc than most.
Armie Hammer and Sebastian Stan deserves a nomination :(
Woody Harrelson doesn't need pointless fuccking oscar.........he is already in all of our hearts..isn't that the greatest award...
Funny, since the majority of complaints come from men.
thank god wonder woman didn't make it
Hi Grace, question:
Who do you think shoud perform "This is me" at the ceremony? i know usually the original actress who performs it in the movie does it (in this case Chrissy Metz), but given the actual situation in Hollywod of rape/abuse allegations and the popularity of Kesha and her very well-documented situation with her ex-producer, do you think she would be more deserving of performing that song at the oscars? i know she only sings the pop version at the end credits but i think she performing it, would give it more credibility given her backstory. Thank you for your time.
Wonder woman was good, just not THAT good
Neander Wallace Exactly
Grace, are you planning to do a review for shape of water? I've heard a lot of mixed things about it and I'm not sure if I should see the film or not. I always hold your opinion in high regard so I would love to hear your thoughts.
Your review for Call Me By Your Name had you singing its praises and seemingly predicting an Oscar sweep... now you say it neither will nor should win anything. That's interesting.
I love three billboards I watched it last night and was amazed at how good it was!! Can’t wait for the review 😁
She basically pointed out how there younger nominees deserved the award instead of her
Nice for Logan.
I've been waiting all morning for this video and your perspective
Wonder woman is not good enough, is hard to recognize that?
I was disappointed that Evermore wasn't nominated for best original song from Beauty and the Beast
Guillermo del Toro IS MEXICAN. People forget that. He brings so much joy to us, the mexican people, to see him succeed.
Yes Grace, women nominees are keeping other women from being nominated. It couldn't possibly be the weak villain and 3rd act in WW.
Very Sad for James Franco and Wonder Woman. But too happy for Dunkirk getting 8 nominations , 2nd highest
i am rooting for Dunrkirk in each and every category it was nominated
how many nominations in directing has Nolan gotten? 4 or 5 and not a single win xD?
