  • President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has revealed that Educated people can make good soldiers and cadres.
“When you hear that some armies do well like the Israeli army, it is because they are Educated people. In the 1960s, when they were fighting with the people they were fighting with, you would get Educated people fighting with peasants from the other countries and they could not manage because of technology, and quick learning. The only problem is that sometimes the Educated become proud and look down upon manual work but otherwise Educated people can make good soldiers and very good cadres in different areas,” the President said.
Gen. Museveni made the remarks today as he presided over the passing out of 9,690 Local Defence Personnel (LDP) drawn from three training schools of Kaweweta Recruit Training School in Nakaseke, Labwordwong Training School in Agago and Olilim Training School in Karamoja. The event took place at Kaweweta Recruit Training School.
The President was happy to note that out of the over 9,000 recruits, 5,000 have A' Level Certificates of Education and above. And out of these, five have master’s degrees and 700 have bachelor’s degrees.

Thank you Mr. President. This is pure clearheaded foresightedness. Strengthening defence and security is critical when embarking on lucrative economic development like oil, precious minerals, etc..production. These young people will enhance and defend the new African Economic Freedom Revolution. Hongera Mzee.

How about invest in agriculture/farming, education, technology, business and infrastructure. Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda are spending more money to develop their infrastructure, education and business. You can see the difference between those countries and Uganda. Those countries are now enjoying the return on their investments. They have more tourist, they have more multinational cooperations, better Infrastructure, better schools and have created better paying jobs for their citizens.

Look at the streets of Kampala full of pot holes. Boda boda roaming the streets of Kampala like roaches. You can deny all you want but everybody else knows the truth. Kampala was the most beautiful city in the 60s and 70s in East Africa. Rwandese used to come to look for jobs in Uganda but now the tables are about to turn. Kagame was a refugee in Uganda but he went back to his home country and has build Kigali to International standards. Kampala is now on the standards of Kisumu. The only way you get out of a problem is to acknowledge the problem first. But if keep denying and blaming other people for you problems you will never solve the problems. One of the biggest reason the Soviet Union collapsed, was big defense budget. American has the largest defense budget. But America has a system that empowers defense companies and in turn they subcontract and hire a lot of ordinary citizens and in turn, it increases America's GDP. An America president is reelected mainly best on job creation. African is the richest continent but until Africans start addressing the problem of corruption, greed and selfishness , Africa will never attain it's full potential. Nigeria is one of the examples. If Nigeria's leaders were not greedy, they can build their cities just like Dubai. With the beauty and natural resources Uganda has, if gave it to white people or Chinese orJapanese or Koreans, in five years they will turn it into heaven without needing any foreign aid. It is ok to admit mistakes and correct them , then you can get back on the right path. Successful people make mistakes but they learn from.

@ggmb1032 Which country are you from? . I don't see where the countries you have mentioned above are better than Uganda. Go to Kenya you're talking about and see if you can be comfortable. Infrastructure wise I agree Uganda behind but just know that Kenya's debt is far bigger than that of Uganda and it's still worsening . yet no enough natural resources, food insecurity etc. The main problem of Uganda is corruption hindering development but that's everywhere even in Kenya you're talking about is worse. The less corrupt countries in the region are maybe Rwanda and Tanzania
