They highlight the contrast between the BBC's lavish spending on the festival and its treatment of pensioners, who are bullied into paying the TV licence fee.

The BBC makes a profit from Glastonbury. Their footage is bought by loads of networks all over the world. It's their second most profitable event after Wimbledon

It's an incredible event for culture at a certain point in time. Events like this are socially important to be documented. Much better than all the fake Dramas on the other channels thats for damn sure.

@@lucius4556I couldn't have put it better myself... I first went to Glastonbury festival back in 1971, I was 11 years of age and went there with my sister. It was a quid to get in and Michael Eavis gave away free milk.. I was a big Hawkwind fan and only went to see them perform, but also saw Joan Baez, Gong and a few others.. Pink Floyd were meant to be playing there but they cancelled due to stage not being sufficient for their equipment... Now I'm 64 years old and will confess I've never heard of probably 90% of the bands that are performing this year..... I live not far from Pilton and we call it "The 3 C's Festival" where I live..... Commercialised Corporate Crap festival.

No one leaves any mess. It's cleaned by volunteers regularly. It's a working farm and all rubbish must be removed before the dairy cows are returned to the fields.

Billy Bragg runs a stage called the left field, the music is all left wing punk but during the day they have political debate between politicians from both sides (it would be boring if it was only the left) and numerous Conservative and Brexit part and UKIP representative join in. Glasto was good up until 99 when you still had the independent traders and crustie fence jumpers. When it got sanitized in 2001 for the corporates and middle class glampers it lost its soul

Been to Glasto about 12 times, 80's and 90's, when it was the real deal. Was reading a BBC article the other day his year one of the biggest 'bands' in the world is playing on the main stage, 'seventeen', never heard of them as i suspect neither have many of you. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This has all happened since his daughter took over, and the creators of the festival ( traveller's) were permanently banned because of the actions of a few bad apples. It was the travellerr's/ peace convoy that made glastonbury what it was. Now, it is just another upper middle class pop music event with has been headling artists, making our ears bleed with their croaky singing

And i get we all have different musical tastes but i think glastonbury has completely forgotten it's roots. @tilerman I was part of the peace convoy from 87 to 93 best times of my life. One of the best and still original festivals running is the big green gathering. Still, a lot of travellers head there, giving it that old school feel as well as some old school favourite festival bands.
I don't have a TV licence cause I don't watch TV for reasons like this.

It was great. I've seen loads of bands I loved there but music is awful now. Empty,soulless and lacking. Glasto is propaganda these days.

Glastonbury: Loved by the fascist led BBC who last year sent , I believe, 200 -300 staff plus on a FREEBY payed for by tax forced upon me, a pensioner, by law.

BBC licensing fee has little to do with what the event actually represents but keeps the BBC aligned with the chardonnay set.

The best act last year was Queens of the Stoneage and they were on the pyramid stage.

The BBC show so much of Glastonbury because the ratings are up there with the biggest sporting events and they make money selling coverage to networks overseas. The number of bands in one place means loads of coverage of loads of bands for a relatively low cost and they'll repeat performances on BBC4 several times over several years. I watched a Stooges performance from over a decade ago last week and it was absolutely brilliant

My sisters friends worked as chambermaids at one of the hotels they were staying at years ago...they said there were very young girls in and out of the dj and crews rooms every night! (Did love listening to the roadshow though)
"If" it is such a national treasure then, like football, I should be shared with other broadcasters. Frankly I've never considered Glastonbury as a serious rock festival - its just by shear probability they've had some half decent acts.
