#askmark hi Mark. Just wondering what your recommendations are on rock boots. I've just ordered a new dry suit with socks but haven't found a rock book that really talks to me yet. Thanks

It depends on terrain and requirements but most rock boots are very similar when they're on. Some divers just use a pair of Converse which are nice and simple once you find the right size. I'd avoid anything with lots of laces. Some designs today have far too many laces that take so long to lace up before and after a dive. NDiver make some nice heavy boots with zippers, Velcro and quick laces.
Other than sufficient grip on the sole for where you're walking and diving the main aspect you'll notice long-term is how easy it is to lace up

@ScubaDiverMagazine thanks for that. I mainly don't want anything to chunky as most seem to be quite large. I have been looking into converse as I've seen a few people try that. I think that's probably the way I'll go as I know a company that make water based ones. Altama maritime boots I've had before and think will work nicely I hope.

@@stuartbannatyne6763 Converse are OK, but have too many laces. I found replacing most of the lace with loops of bungee better, and just have the top quarter laced to allow you to tighten it to your foot. Hope that helps in anyway if you go to Converse. :)

@@LeeLeatherbarrow that's a good idea. Will give it a go. I'm deff leaning the converse side atm

Hi mark, did you find the hse course added to your current diving skills at all in any way? Would there be any crossover skills-wise into recreational diving ? I figure low viz, rescue drills etc would all count for a lot, but still curious. thanks

    Hey Mark!
Thanks for everything you do to teach us to be better divers!
Is there any downside (other than cost, but this is an expensive sport to begin with) to having every diver breathe pure oxygen for a few minutes when they’re back on the boat after every dive, even if they have no symptoms of decompression sickness? This will help off-gassing and reduce dissolved nitrogen, lowering the risk of decompression sickness, shortening necessary surface intervals, and/or boosting energy/mental acuity.
There has to be a downside, or it would have become the standard practice by now, right? I just don’t see what it is.
    Thank you!

Cost, fire and tables are going to be the primary inhibitors. Yes, it would be great to give all divers O2 after a dive but all of the equipment and running costs would add up and that much pure O2 around dive decks would be risky. You would also need to follow specific tables to work out your SI and subsequent dives and most recreational dive computers won't have those programmed.

#askmark since I myself am a bit thicker, I would be interested in which manufacturer of wetsuits is best suited. Aqualung, Mares and Scubapro are always very tight in the abdominal area.

Henderson and bare make great wetsuits for us thicker guys

Hi Mark, I have an aptitude day coming up soon with CDT and wonder if I could ask you some questions about the industry. Can you let me know your email address. Cheers. Mark
