    Thank you for mentioning which screws go back where. I completely forgot to pay attention when I was taking them out!

    My cable covers (1:30 in this video) aren’t T5 screws. They seem to be T4.

    Hi, do I need an anti static wrist band if I'd like to attempt opening the bottom pan to take out off the battery?

    Could you so kindly help explain the easiest way to put the display back on, I had the hardest time getting it off and still not sure how exactly I was able to slide the display off

    I realize this is going to be probably a silly question, but I've watched a few of these breakdown videos and I can't figure out where the Main SSD Hard drive is? I need to unplug it to and connect it you my current laptop, see if it works at all, and if so to try to do some light data recovery. On my 2012 I could immediately and had no problem removing it. But no idea on this 2018.

    • @PowerbookMedic
      @PowerbookMedic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There is not a separate SSD on this model. It is part of the logic board.

    • @joshhayes8240
      @joshhayes8240 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So I'm not totally crazy... How can someone approach a recovery if they can't independently access the harddrive?

    • @PowerbookMedic
      @PowerbookMedic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joshhayes8240 You'll need to take it to Apple.

      @@PowerbookMedic Wow. Apple's the only company whose products (computers) I buy that consistenly alientates their customers just a bit more each time. I couldn't believe my 2020 Macbook Pro (since I accidentally torched my 2018 with a liquid spill, which is why I'm inquiring about hard drive recovery), didn't even come with the full power cable. Just a truncated version that plugs directly into the wall....

      @@joshhayes8240 Same thing happened to me. Apple held me hostage and said that data recovery would cost from $700 and possibly thousands. Just to recover some personal photos. It's horrible! I was trying to figure out how to access the SSD myself and thankfully you had posted this so I could save more time and money. I was about to buy more screwdrivers to keep taking my Macbook Pro apart.

    For A1990, is it so that to replce the battery, we have to take the main board out?

    • @PowerbookMedic
      @PowerbookMedic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It is recommended that only a professional replace the battery on this model as it is built into the top case. It is not easy to change this part out.

    Hey, thanks for the video.
    But could you please mention what type of screw bits I need for the different parts as you go a long. You mentioned for example T5 when removing the battery but not in the moment after when you removed the “cable covers”.
    Also it would be a more informative video if you told us what part you ware working on while taking apart the computer, for example in the begging when you said “we ware about to disconnect the battery”, it would be really helpful if you did the same with the rest of the parts.

      They're pentalobe. It's a good idea to get a set of pentalobe screwdrivers in Apple's commonly utilized sizes. They are cheap and commonly available.

    So when Apple replaces my top case (for the keyboard) they also replaced the touchbar but not the power switch? I’m curious because since I had it serviced the touchbar is sometimes unresponsive and I’ve never had issues.

      Once the main board is removed you can dislodge the batteries carefully. It's conveniently glued to the underside of the keyboard. I removed the trackpad too and then slid a long sharp flexible blade under each battery in turn. Long slow and laborious if you don't do this everyday.

    Sh*t, I disassembled one of this for cleaning and thermal paste replacement, and it won't turn on back any more...
    I was more than careful with each ribbon cables and every connector.
    Is there any trick to power it back on after power outage?
    Edit:
    There was necessary to plug in the wall charger after battery disconnect, right after the Macbook started and worked as it suppose.

    I have a problem with my MacBook Pro 13 Model A1706 year 2016 computer, can I change the motherboard? what does it involve? I don't care to lose the data, I saw how to disassemble the computer it seems obvious to me that I have to change the whole motherboard, you can give me some suggestions?

    • @PowerbookMedic
      @PowerbookMedic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mauro Downie Yes you can change the motherboard if you are sure that is the problem. It is one of the first things that comes out of the machine. However, you will also need to change the power button/thumbprint reader as well. It is programmed to the Logic Board.

      Jack Vevers It sounds like the cable connector is damaged. You will probably need to take to a repair shop that does micro soldering on Logic Boards to fix it.
