    The 1885 and the 45-70 were made for each other!! Beautiful wood on your Browning as well!

    I have an 1885 Low Wall in 17 WSM. About the same thing as yours. 😂
    Yesterday I was burning Trail Boss in a new-to-me 458 Win Mag with 405 gr cast. Um, it's a work in progress. Lol
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @WilliamCChapin
      @WilliamCChapin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like Trail Boss, it fills cases nicely. That being said, I have found other "fast burning" powders to perform more consistently in moderate reduced cast bullet loads. I have experienced weirdness from Trail Boss at charges other than the quite light loads.Thanks for the note, and have fun with that big Win Mag! That's a cartridge that I'd like to mess around with someday. 🙂

    • @luvtahandload7692
      @luvtahandload7692 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WilliamCChapin I've read that Trail Boss doesn't like to be compressed.
      For bottlenecked cast loads, I love A5744. IMR 4759 also has many uses. Too bad it was discontinued. I picked up, and am looking forward to trying, some Shooters World Buffalo powder. It shares similar traits with 4895, only different burn speed.

    • @WilliamCChapin
      @WilliamCChapin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@luvtahandload7692 There’s conflicting “information” regarding compressed Trail Boss. Hodgdon publishes compressed loads while at the same time recommending only a percentage of a case full. I find that it is hard on bullet bases, and can produce soldered case necks. I also like 5744, and 4759 when I get lucky and find it!

    try one of the O-style front sight inserts, they are designed to go around the outside of your 8" black bullseye. I also like the the yellow lens for that too! I shoot an 1885 Browning HiWall in 38-55 with a Soule long range rear on it, supper accurate with a cast 340g bullet.

    • @WilliamCChapin
      @WilliamCChapin  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are very enjoyable rifles to shoot! I do use the round inserts to "ring" the black with this rifle and others with similar sights. Thanks for the note. 🙂

      I had an 1885 Browning like the one in this video. It had no tang for the Soule sight. I got rid of it and got an original in 45/90. Did you screw the Soule sight into the wood stock?

    So you use lube in addition to powder coat ?

    • @WilliamCChapin
      @WilliamCChapin  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I do sometimes. I look at it more like powder coat in addition to the lube. Even if I mess up the lead hardness and lube, the powder coat will help prevent leading even further. 🙂
