The Battle of Cambrai was significant in ww1, as it was the first battle in which tanks were used on a
large scale.
At dawn on November 20, 1917, over 400 British Mark IV tanks with the support of infantry and artillery.
began approaching the German lines.
The tanks were able to easily flatten the barbed wire and make it across the trenches, which was previously suicide for infantry to do so.
By the end of the first day, the British had pushed deep into enemy territory, in the following days however, the Germans took back much off the ground they had lost, as many of the British tanks had mechanical issues or were destroyed by artillery Although it was not a decisive victory for the British, the battle of Cambrai had proven the effectiveness of the tank on the battlefield. - บันเทิง

The bullets making their way inside the tank, splattering the men inside with tiny fragments of hot lead--great detail, genuine danger for tank crews back then.
When a Lego animation is more historically accurate than most Hollywood movies or high end video games on the first world war.

Even the recoil on the artillery! Thats one thing that I always notice in old war movies, they fire blanks so the artillery/anti-tank gun barrel doesnt retract from the recoil. Haha small details great job!

@@generalstory9938 Yes, even at military funerals or parades where they fire cannons, they have no recoil. They are firing essentially blanks.

Well, actually, firing blanks would make the artillery retract, but they are using props with LED strobe lights

It's called a splatter mask invented by the British in 1916 which consisted of a metal plate sandwiched between two pieces of leather and it had chain mail over your face and nose
Imagine being a German Soldier at Cambrai. You're dug in, well-defended, you're basically sitting pretty at the Hindenburg line.
Then out of nowhere, you just hear the thundering clank and the roaring of engines as this huge mass of steel on tracks starts rolling towards you, firing machine gun rounds and HE shells all the way.
The battle of Cambrai was not the first battle in which tanks were used.
I don't recall saying it was.

This is really accurate! Except the tanks weren’t as good at bouncing shells as depicted. Their armour was just about thick enough to be bullet proof but not much else
So generally one hit from a German field gun was enough to take it out but other than that great work
plenty of those shells were duds and wouldn't have gone off
@@TheFleetAdmiral33 except the armor on those tanks was at most like 10-15mm, just the kinetic energy of the shell alone woulda blown a hole right through those tanks.
The shells were mainly HE they detonated on contact or passed right though many tank fought on after many hits few were actually destroyed by direct gun fire

I love how you show the tank getting stuck in between the trenches (not just because it’s accurate to what could happen during a battle) but because it helps the viewer understand why those tanks needed those stacks of logs. Without that scene it may have felt like the tanks could have made it over the trenches since they’ve done it before, and having the guy throw the logs from the tank wouldn’t have felt as necessary without the other tank stuck beside them.

Wow, I never knew. I was so confused at the beginning as to why these tanks have log stacks above them, making them easy to spot for artillery or AT. But seeing for the purpose of traversal is quite informative.

@@tugalord Doesn't matter it's still something you never saw once in the battlefield. It has a psychological effect either way especially since they had 470 tanks in the battle.

The reasons why tank crews had to protect themselves inside armor were simple: Many people wrongly assume that in order to cause damage to tank you have to penetrate the armor (with tankgewehr for example). By far until 1940~41 the most deadly infantry anti tank weapons used the tank armor as a weapon. The idea as I recall originated in German army (reversed rifle bullets) not long after the first encounters with tank. The idea was to hit the tank armor with as wide space as possible. The kinetic energy would be spread on area of the armor and it would cause the parts of inside armor to break away. This would create something like a shotgun effect. Early ww1 tanks were vulnerable to this kind of damage not only from infantry. Because the armor and tank technology were quite new at the time the armor itself was not that resistant to that effect. As I said that kind of effect can be created without getting through armor and especially in early tanks all you needed was to apply the force on a relatively wide area of armor (for example an nearby artillery round explosion).

Sometimes people forget how much of a monster the MK1 was.
It was for the first 30 minutes in combat. Landships were used less and leas because the Germans kept figuring out effective strategies to make those tanks useless
Until it got sighted by a field gun and instantly blown up because the armor was barely thick enough to be called bullet resistant.
I’m a big fan of tanks but ww1 is an era of tanks that I can safely say I’d rather walk. Unless we’re talking the Renault FT that thing was dope and riding in one is on my bucket list.

Not gonna lie, the scene that followed that line was one of the most awe-inspiring moments for gaming in 2016.
I had to reinilalise my PS4 last night. I thought it would be cool to replay the compaign for BF1. That was the last mission I played for the night.

@@panicbombz4192 in Battlefield 1, there is a mission when the Black Bess, a Mk. 4 (I believe) Male you are piloting is in distress. The main character, Edwards, is commanded to release a homing pigeon by the tank commander. What follows is one of the best, and among the most haunting, missions I've ever played. You fly as the pidgeon, listening to very soft music. All around you, slightly out of focus, is the horrors of war. Aircraft falling in flames, explosions, flak, even machinegun fire. It's an amazing mission that gives me chills to this day.
@@panicbombz4192 A great section of Battlefield 1. Basically, after the Pigeon has been released, you take control of it and fly towards HQ. It's one of the only peaceful moments in an otherwise brutal war, and my personal favourite scene from that game.

I have a friend who likes to talk about this battle all the time, and we're in the same lunch period. Whenever we get the chance to, we talk about the weapons and tactics of this war and how they could've been perfected. I also like to creat this battle at school with erasers as tanks and notebooks as trenches. I have a very interesting way of having fun at school lol

World War I was absolutely brutal. It’s very overlooked because of the horrors of the 2nd World War. Seeing it reimagined on Legos is just as bad! The mighty Lego. Stepping on a Lego is a fate worse than death.

I always find that one of the biggest ironies of Tank warfare in WW1 is that the people who learned the greatest lessons where not the British but the Germans who later used tanks to far greater effect in WW2. The Germans that survived Cambrai and other skirmishes with those first tanks must instantly have realised that trench warfare was dead. As effective as those first tanks were, the old adage still applies - never buy the first version of anything ! (and yes and do know that the British tanks were developed further).
I can't understand why so many people have disliked this video. Don't they understand the enormous amount of work, time, effort and care that have gone into making this such a smooth and epic stop motion animation? It's breathtakingly well made and epic in how it is played out. It deserves all of the praise it can get!
