This song is such a vibe, when ever i hear it i just want to get up dance and sing along to it, the chorus is just so catchy and it gets stuck in your mimd after the very first time its played, the outfits aka suits they wear are so stylish it makes me want to wear them, BTS are just one of my many style icons
As an African i was off the roof when idol dropped. From the beat to their outfits to the setting and the gwara gwara dance was soo African. Much love from Ghana
I don't think that BTS is getting flags from doing their own thing. Instead, Korea is even acknowledging BTS for paving the way for Korean Culture to be recognized in the western culture or even the whole world. But the concept of this song is basically them clapping back to their haters. That whatever haters say they wouldn't give a damn anymore because they are what they are and they love themselves for it. There's a deeper expalanation for this by the all familiar DKDTV. Lol. Thanks for the reaction guys! 💜💜💜
Hi guys, like always it was a great reaction. So, “IDOL” is the 15th track and leading single of BTS’s repackaged album Love Yourself 結 ‘Answer,’ the last part of their Love Yourself: 起承轉結 series. It’s influenced by traditional Korean instruments, featuring the Janggu, mixed with a modern hip-hop beat, creating a refreshing and surprising sound. In the music video, members are dressed in traditional Korean Hanboks, echoing traditional themes of the song, such as Korean landscape painting, Lion Dance, and a Korean pavilion with the word “囍”, an auspicious word during marriage in traditional Korean Culture to bless the newly-couple. A version of “Idol” featuring Nicki Minaj is available as a digital single. But let's talk about the lyrics, and btw you've had a pretty good interpretation of it, so let's complete it with the most significant lines: YOU CAN CALL ME ARTIST (ARTIST) YOU CAN CALL ME IDOL (IDOL) NO MATTER WHAT YOU CALL ME I DON’T CARE These lines express how Namjoon, or known in BTS as RM, no longer struggles with defining himself as an idol or artist. Coming from an underground rap background when he was younger, he’s been criticized relentlessly for joining an idol group. In South Korea, there’s a cultural difference between an idol and an artist. An idol is someone signed to an entertainment company, like BigHit Entertainment, while an artist is any other musical artist that isn’t under an entertainment label. Idols are generalized as ‘not actual musicians’ because of their status at an entertainment company, and so South Korean culture only perceives artists as real musicians. However, BTS write and produce the majority of their songs, and so this generalization is nullified. RM further raps about his experience with this stereotype in his song “Awakening” from his 2015 mixtape RM: « Every night inside me I quietly fight with myself My heart pounds, my colleagues stab me in the back While saying that I became a moron after joining a company Yeah fuck you I’m an idol, yeah yeah I’m an idol At one time I hated it but now I love to get that title. » I’M PROUD OF IT (PROUD IT) I’M FREE (FREE) NO MORE IRONY (IRONY) CUZ I WAS ALWAYS JUST ME Korean male “idols” are often criticized as sellouts or effeminate men. However, RM states that he never changed himself to be an idol. He’s not being ironic - basically, he is not (or no longer) the opposite of who he expected himself to be. I DO WHAT I DO, SO YOU DO YOU YOU CAN’T STOP ME LOVIN’ MYSELF In a typical BTS fashion, V, RM, and Jimin make it clear that others are free to do their own thing, but their actions cannot stop them from masturbating furiously(lovin' myself). EOLSSU, I LIKE IT “Ulssu” is a word used in Pansori-a Korean musical storytelling tradition from the Joseon Dynasty. Pansori is performed by a singer and a drummer. While the singer chants the story the drummer responds with “얼쑤” or “Ursoo,” romanized as “Eolssu.” English equivalent terms are “uh-huh,” “okay,” “That’s right” and “Yep.” DUNKIDUK KUNGDURUHRUH This portion of the song was teased via Twitter by member RM, months before it was released in BTS’s annual summer package: « In pansori, a piece of Korean traditional music, a rhythm ‘Deonggideok Kung deorororo kunggideok kung deorororo’ exists. This lyric is the short version of this rhythm. » FACE OFF, JUST LIKE JOHN WOO, AY This is an interesting line. Apart from the obvious reference to director John Woo and his seminal film Face/Off, the plot of the movie itself plays into a major theme of IDOL: juggling and embracing multiple identities. The protagonist assumes another identity with a face transplant and is in a way removed from his “true” self, just as BTS are made to change their personalities under public scrutiny as idols. TOP STAR WITH THAT SPOTLIGHT, AY They are saying that they are bright like the brightest star, but even brighter because they have a spotlight on them. It’s impossible not to see them, ay. SOMETIMES LIKE A SUPERHERO I'M YOUR ANPANMAN This line references BTS’s song “Anpanman” from their previous album Love Yourself: 轉 ‘Tear.’ With their rise to fame being rapid, BTS have discussed their views of being pushed into the spotlight of the media and idolized. Anpanman is a Japanese cartoon character, with a pastry head, known for being the lousiest superhero. However, despite not seeming well fit for his role he proceeds to try and help people. BTS are expressing the parallel between Anpanman and themselves. « I’m a new generation, Anpanman I’m a new superhero, Anpanman » Since BTS are still young and trying to determine who they are, they’re baffled by the fact that people look up to them for guidance. However, despite not feeling they’re rightfully labelled as role models, or superheroes, they’ll gladly fill the role if it helps someone else. In live performances, each of the members strikes a pose suggesting a different Marvel superhero at this point in the song. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF ME’S INSIDE OF ME I’M FACING A NEW ME AGAIN TODAY IT’S ALL ME ANYWAY These lines reminisce the journey some members of BTS have gone through to accept who they are. Living as South Korean idols, they’ve mentioned multiple times before the struggles they’ve had with distinguishing the difference between themselves as idols and themselves behind that image. However, they’ve concluded that every version of themselves, whether it be a singer, dancer, rapper, idol, brother, etc, is just as valid as the next because they all constitute to who they are. RM, as mentioned previously, has discussed this journey throughout his lyrics. Coming from an underground rap background, he received a lot of backlash for becoming a K-pop idol. This triggered an identity crisis for him, however he was able to overcome it and accept who he is. This growth was displayed in his remake of Drake’s “Too Much”: « I can no longer be a human like the likes of you all Even if that’s the very reason why people curse me Whether I’m an artist, or an idol I don’t give a fuck this is my life. » RUNNIN’ MAN RUNNIN’ MAN RUNNIN’ MAN A reference to the well known character “Pepsiman” who inspired BTS as young children in his world famous Playstation 1 game “PEPSIMAN!” In the game you would play as Pepsiman himself, run around the city and collect cans of Pepsi as fast as you could. You would be in fact a “Runnin' man”. IT’S OKAY, I’M HAPPY IN THIS MOMENT BTS is reminding the listener, and possibly themselves, that life isn’t all about endlessly chasing goals. There is time to enjoy within the present and what you’ve already accomplished. This line ties in with their Love Yourself: 轉 Tear song “Paradise”: « If you have moments where you feel happiness for a while It’s alright to stop » Here it is, there is also a video explaining the MV by the talented DKDKTV in which there are still other references, I recommend it to you. th-cam.com/video/IL7PEjk1pys/w-d-xo.html

Speaking of the Olympics, I remember hearing once that BTS concert series in Seoul brought in as much economic benefit to South Korea as the Olympics did. Idk if this is true or not, but thats crazy if it is!
As always love y'alls reactions. Y'all crack me up. always make me laugh. Always enjoy your stories you share. Keep it up. Idol is one of my favorite songs from BTS. Thanks for reacting to it. I
LMAO actually, BTS was invited to perform at the winter olympics when it was held in Korea, and before it was revealed, some other group's fans whose idols were performing on olympics were flexing on armys saying that their grp is actually Korea's pick or the nation's grp but yeah some high ranking official/director of the olympics actually revealed that they first invited bts to perform but they refused saying they had prior schedules but later on, the same day of olympics Jin posted a vid of him in a farm with some chickens LMAO tho, in their defense, it was really their break that time. and since they rarely get breaks, bighit is prolly strict at making sure they really get their deserved rest/break.
The line where Jungkook says and v continue " they are thousand of me inside and I welcome the new me " you guys should react to RM speech at the UN to understand it
I REALLY recommend watching more of their live performances, especially their ComeBack Stages.. and Award shows. Even some of their performances in American talk shows.. Try "Black Swan" live in James Cordon talk show... It was BEAUTIFUL and they performed barefoot!

There are so many subtle screw-yous to the haters in this song. Like the glasses V is wearing -- someone once told him that made him look ugly. RM using filters after someone ragged on him for playing around with them. Suga's sweater with Snow White -- he's been made fun of for his pale skin. And then there are the clever Korean cultural references. Genius. :)
@9:52 RM opens up rapping first then JHope and Suga and midway through Jungkook raps and so on @12:18 Yes it’s another one of their DISS tracks to Haters, ANTIs and Critics @14:21 THE SHARK represents the Haters and ANTIs
In reference to your comment about the whole Olympic performance thing, is so on point. There are many Korean cultural references in this MV which you obviously wouldn’t know unless you were Korean and/or an hardcore ARMY lol. I believe their performance at the MMA 2018 was IDOL which showcased all the Korean influences and it was incredible! But just wanted to say I loved your reactions and your thoughts about the MV. Thank you! 🙏
Btw, 'Idol' are title track from their album Love Yourself: Answer. 'Fake Love' are title from Love Yourself: Tear. their first LY trilogy are Love Yourself: Her, the title is 'DNA'. LY Her 👉🏼 LY Tear 👉🏼 LY Answer. Maybe next it's time for DNA? Little TMI, I made donuts with my mom today 😅🤗
Love yourself era. The way I remember the albums is this. LY:Her is about new love. Everything is beautiful and meant to be. This is DNA. Next is LY:Tear who h is about unrealistic expectations and trying to make yourself into something you’re not. This is Fake Love. Lastly, LY:Answer is about the real way to love. Loving yourself and embracing who you are. This is a celebration. This is Idol. Hope this helps.
IDOL is in BTS Love Yourself: Answer Album, if you don’t know yet Love Yourself is a four series Album LY Her, LY Wonder, LY Tear and LY Answer.. Every BTS Album there always a song dedicated to the members , for one self, society, haters , ARMY, but the concept depends on what the whole album is all about ..if you want to see it and react to it, check out bts per album concepts and hear out all bts album track list..
BTS was invited to be the closing act for the Olympics, but because there was a good possibility they'd be overseas at the time, they had to decline. Also, y'all should check out there live performance of this at the 2018 MMA Awards show. :) Jimin was actually given an award by the Kim Baek Bong Korean Fan Dance Conservation Society, for his Fan Dance at this awards show.
maskedsoul mentions the DKDKTV explanation for this MV. You might also want to check the xCeleste explanation, which hits on some different points, including the fabrics for BTS's suits. Sure someone will tell you Jimin won a cultural award for his fan dance section in the Idol intro in the 2018 MMA's you watched yesterday. Bless & bonahae! 💜🐋💜
Aw finally im waiting for this..guys check this out soon BTS release new upcoming single hit song called Dynamite this coming August 21..im so excited for this💜
I just love when you start laughing like that, that makes me laugh too 😂 Anyway I'm pretty sure people already told you that this music video has a lot of cultural references, I really love how they promote their culture and makes you actually learn some things
You were about to break my ears :))))) I had the volume level to max :)))) Jesssusss :))))) Slow down, ma boys :))))) GOOOOOD MORNIIIIIING!!! :))))) Snake?!!! Ewwww!!!! " I hate snake" - J. Hope
IDOL is from Love Yourself: Answer, Love yourself is a three part series with Love Yourself: Her is the first one (theres love yourself wonder as well but its just a theme with only euphoria) it shows love which seems like destiny then Love yourself:Tear when the love falls apart and then Love yourself:Answer which says true love begins when you love yourself first so it a song celebrating self love! And what you said about the olympics and this being like the theme for korea i kinda agree too cuz this song has that vibe! there are a lot of cultural references like Ursoo and Deonggideok kungdeoreoreo i hope you check out the explanation for it by dkdktv
They got a lot of flack for becoming more Westernized and not staying true to their Korean roots. Def watch the explanation by dkdktv because it really helps in explaining the Korean heritage and symbols behind the music video. BTS has gotten so much hate over the years, but this was kind of like an anthem of saying that don't care anymore because they love themselves! In the behind the scenes Suga got so mad because he had his suit made and the tag said Sugar instead of Suga lmao
Ask suggested, please check out explanation video. BTS wore their traditional Korean clothing, the fan dances, and lots of other traditional elements cause they were getting letters from some K ARMY saying they were getting too Western with their global traveling. However, they also showed that they have grown and are bringing the world to Korea through their suits which is made from South African material and the dance is also South African. At the end of extended version with Niki, they invite ARMY all over the world to join them. I loved Niki's collaboration and hope you check that out later 😁
Idol group in Korea is basically a band like BTS with real pretty visuals that young generations would like. It goes back to where big lables made trainee systems and made groups. There are alot of talented idol groups that everyone is talented now, but when it started, only few had the actual real talent to sing or rap and others were just for the visuals. So if you only had just the talent but no visuals, they wouldn't sell. So if you are a talented rapper like RM, people in the same rapping scene would want him to debut as a rapper, not in a idol group. BTS makes their own music, so they can do whatever they want, but for other groups, they don't have the freedom to do whatever they want to do because of their company. It's a stereotype of idol group for not doing 'real' music. Like making songs that has only catchy lines with actual no meaning in a song, but ends up selling big because of their labels ;they have a big fandom. Mamamoo got alot of hate because all four of them don't fit into 'idol' beauty standards. What ppl wants for an Idol group is like BlackPink, where they all have the visuals(that ppl except as an idol beauty standard) and talent. Back in the 90's, when a idol grop debuted and one member was with less of a visual, you could just know that that person was the one with talent, cuz you couldn't debut if you were ugly... Sad but true. 😥 There are other singing groups/bands but not known as an Idol groups, because they are in their 30s or more and not that pretty but hella talent. So basically, in Kpop, the categories are Singer, Rapper, Idols, and duos or actual band with instrument. You guys have reacted to only two categories of singers so far. Just the rappers or idols.
BTS “IDOL” is their 15th track and leading single of their ‘Love Yourself: Answer’ album that was repackaged which is the last installment of the ‘Love Yourself’ series. It’s inspired by ancient traditional Korean instruments, featuring a instrument called the Janggu mixed with a modern hiphop upbeat which creates a shocking & refreshing African-Korean tempo. In the MV the members are wearing modern safari-like fashion but also dressed in traditional Korean Hanbok outfits that compliments the traditional African-Korean themes; such as the Lion Dance, Korean Landscape Painting and a Pavilion. Even though i’m personally not a fan of it there also a extended version of this music video that features Nicki Minaj. BTS said in many interviews that this track is influenced by African moves that blends into the choreography with some traditional beats. #BTSIDOL
There is a lot of cultural reference in this song. Hope u watch the explained video by DKDKTV.💜 Edit: they incorporated The gwara gwara. They said it was part of a south african dance. Where my African ARMY at 😭🇪🇹
There is a lot in the vid. References from Korean culture, to African textile, to Bollywood. The song is a big "whatever, haters" song. The camera filters Joon used in the vid is from a live when Joon was told by a "fan" not to use filters. The glasses V wore were also from a live when a "fan" saying the glasses do not fit him. Also the rabbit on the moon, it is said that there is a folktale about it. Sharks and lions are "spoiled" by Jin in a post. These are some points to watch out but yeah, there a lot more.
Fact: BTS got invited to perform at the pyeongchang winter olympics closing but they denied saying that they were busy only for Jin to post a picture of himself with chickens(at a farm or so?) during the ceremony. lol
*after MV reaction please do reaction for the "IDOL EXPLANATION" too:) you will know all the meaning of that lyrics, drawing, background, chroreograh etc. :)* Thank you btw
They were ask to perform for the Olympic's in Korea but their agency has refused! A lot said it was because they have to lipsync and they don't do that but we will maybe never know...

But let's talk about the lyrics, and btw you've had a pretty good interpretation of it, so let's complete it with the most significant lines:
YOU CAN CALL ME ARTIST (ARTIST)
YOU CAN CALL ME IDOL (IDOL)
NO MATTER WHAT YOU CALL ME
I DON’T CARE
These lines express how Namjoon, or known in BTS as RM, no longer struggles with defining himself as an idol or artist.
RM further raps about his experience with this stereotype in his song “Awakening” from his 2015 mixtape RM:
« Every night inside me I quietly fight with myself
My heart pounds, my colleagues stab me in the back
While saying that I became a moron after joining a company
Yeah fuck you I’m an idol, yeah yeah I’m an idol
At one time I hated it but now I love to get that title. »
I’M PROUD OF IT (PROUD IT)
I’M FREE (FREE)
NO MORE IRONY (IRONY)
CUZ I WAS ALWAYS JUST ME
Korean male “idols” are often criticized as sellouts or effeminate men. However, RM states that he never changed himself to be an idol. He’s not being ironic - basically, he is not (or no longer) the opposite of who he expected himself to be.
I DO WHAT I DO, SO YOU DO YOU
YOU CAN’T STOP ME LOVIN’ MYSELF
In a typical BTS fashion, V, RM, and Jimin make it clear that others are free to do their own thing, but their actions cannot stop them from masturbating furiously(lovin' myself).
EOLSSU, I LIKE IT
“Ulssu” is a word used in Pansori-a Korean musical storytelling tradition from the Joseon Dynasty. Pansori is performed by a singer and a drummer.
While the singer chants the story the drummer responds with “얼쑤” or “Ursoo,” romanized as “Eolssu.” English equivalent terms are “uh-huh,” “okay,” “That’s right” and “Yep.”
DUNKIDUK KUNGDURUHRUH
This portion of the song was teased via Twitter by member RM, months before it was released in BTS’s annual summer package:
« In pansori, a piece of Korean traditional music, a rhythm ‘Deonggideok Kung deorororo kunggideok kung deorororo’ exists. This lyric is the short version of this rhythm. »
FACE OFF, JUST LIKE JOHN WOO, AY
This is an interesting line.
TOP STAR WITH THAT SPOTLIGHT, AY
They are saying that they are bright like the brightest star, but even brighter because they have a spotlight on them. It’s impossible not to see them, ay.
SOMETIMES LIKE A SUPERHERO
I'M YOUR ANPANMAN
This line references BTS’s song “Anpanman” from their previous album Love Yourself: 轉 ‘Tear.’ With their rise to fame being rapid, BTS have discussed their views of being pushed into the spotlight of the media and idolized.
Anpanman is a Japanese cartoon character, with a pastry head, known for being the lousiest superhero. However, despite not seeming well fit for his role he proceeds to try and help people. BTS are expressing the parallel between Anpanman and themselves.
« I’m a new generation, Anpanman
I’m a new superhero, Anpanman »
Since BTS are still young and trying to determine who they are, they’re baffled by the fact that people look up to them for guidance. However, despite not feeling they’re rightfully labelled as role models, or superheroes, they’ll gladly fill the role if it helps someone else.
In live performances, each of the members strikes a pose suggesting a different Marvel superhero at this point in the song.
THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF ME’S INSIDE OF ME
I’M FACING A NEW ME AGAIN TODAY
IT’S ALL ME ANYWAY
These lines reminisce the journey some members of BTS have gone through to accept who they are.
This growth was displayed in his remake of Drake’s “Too Much”:
« I can no longer be a human like the likes of you all
Even if that’s the very reason why people curse me
Whether I’m an artist, or an idol I don’t give a fuck this is my life. »
RUNNIN’ MAN
RUNNIN’ MAN
RUNNIN’ MAN
A reference to the well known character “Pepsiman” who inspired BTS as young children in his world famous Playstation 1 game “PEPSIMAN!” In the game you would play as Pepsiman himself, run around the city and collect cans of Pepsi as fast as you could. You would be in fact a “Runnin' man”.
IT’S OKAY, I’M HAPPY IN THIS MOMENT
BTS is reminding the listener, and possibly themselves, that life isn’t all about endlessly chasing goals. There is time to enjoy within the present and what you’ve already accomplished. This line ties in with their Love Yourself: 轉 Tear song “Paradise”:
« If you have moments where you feel happiness for a while
It’s alright to stop »

I believe their performance at the MMA 2018 was IDOL which showcased all the Korean influences and it was incredible! But just wanted to say I loved your reactions and your thoughts about the MV. Thank you! 🙏
Love your reactions, you guys are hilarious. Look forward to continue watching your journey of learning & exploring this phenomenal BTS universe 🥰💜 .
We starting from the beginning next time u see a bts reaction
Amicy so you’re going all the way back to no more dream??🧐
Love yourself era. The way I remember the albums is this. LY:Her is about new love. Everything is beautiful and meant to be. This is DNA. Next is LY:Tear who h is about unrealistic expectations and trying to make yourself into something you’re not. This is Fake Love. Lastly, LY:Answer is about the real way to love. Loving yourself and embracing who you are. This is a celebration. This is Idol. Hope this helps.
I've already watched lots of your bts reaction videos, but i still dunno what ur saying after your "GOOOOOOD MOOOOOOOOORNIIIIING"
Sak Pasé haha which mean what’s up, what’s poppy, how are you, what’s happening,
@@Amicy that's cool!! Im gonna join you with the intro now. Sak Pase!

16:44 Agree, S. Korea will definitely have BTS host the the show.
IDOL is in BTS Love Yourself: Answer Album, if you don’t know yet Love Yourself is a four series Album
LY Her, LY Wonder, LY Tear and LY Answer.. Every BTS Album there always a song dedicated to the members , for one self, society, haters , ARMY, but the concept depends on what the whole album is all about ..if you want to see it and react to it, check out bts per album concepts and hear out all bts album track list..

Love love you Amicy bros! 💜

I love this channel so much 😍😘
BTS was invited to be the closing act for the Olympics, but because there was a good possibility they'd be overseas at the time, they had to decline. Also, y'all should check out there live performance of this at the 2018 MMA Awards show. :) Jimin was actually given an award by the Kim Baek Bong Korean Fan Dance Conservation Society, for his Fan Dance at this awards show.
react to airplane pt2, heartbeat and save me 🥺💗
Love your reaction. Btw BTS make remix with nicki minaj. It was music video too.
Guys the Explanation Video is very interesting...watch it! 👍💜
maskedsoul mentions the DKDKTV explanation for this MV.

BigBang - Fantastic Baby
BigBang - Bang Bang Bang
I just love when you start laughing like that, that makes me laugh too 😂 Anyway I'm pretty sure people already told you that this music video has a lot of cultural references, I really love how they promote their culture and makes you actually learn some things
i really like your videos
Thank you, really means a lot
We definitely will!!
And as usual you reaction was funny thank you guys 😂😂💜💜
HEY DYNAMITE MV TEASER is gonna be out August 19th 00:00 am KST / August 18th 11:00 am EST
Excited 🤗
There are other singing groups/bands but not known as an Idol groups, because they are in their 30s or more and not that pretty but hella talent. So basically, in Kpop, the categories are Singer, Rapper, Idols, and duos or actual band with instrument.
You guys have reacted to only two categories of singers so far. Just the rappers or idols.
love the reactions!! but when are you guys going to react to bts crack videos tho? to get to know the boys and their crackhead energy better😆
The song is from LY: ANSWER! And you should check out DKDKTV for a proper explanation on the video and song
Oh and there’s a Nicki Minaj version!
lmao y’all need hot chocolate next time cuz there’s crack in your coffee😂😂😂😂
Bts is korea pride nd I luv ur rxn 💜
Ohh thank you, you should react to explication the video in DDKTV I think 💜💜💜
Hope u watch the explained video by DKDKTV.💜
Edit: they incorporated The gwara gwara. They said it was part of a south african dance. Where my African ARMY at 😭🇪🇹
African army here! I'm from Ghana 🇬🇭
Here I am. I'm from Nigeria
Here from Togo 🇹🇬
There is a lot in the vid. References from Korean culture, to African textile, to Bollywood. The song is a big "whatever, haters" song. The camera filters Joon used in the vid is from a live when Joon was told by a "fan" not to use filters. The glasses V wore were also from a live when a "fan" saying the glasses do not fit him. Also the rabbit on the moon, it is said that there is a folktale about it. Sharks and lions are "spoiled" by Jin in a post. These are some points to watch out but yeah, there a lot more.
i was waiting for this one! i love this song but i like it even better with Nicki's rap verse. The one with her featuring on it is FIRE
DKDKTV has an Explain video for this song!! Hope you can check it out.
Fact: BTS got invited to perform at the pyeongchang winter olympics closing but they denied saying that they were busy only for Jin to post a picture of himself with chickens(at a farm or so?) during the ceremony. lol
