I had a 350 EXC before the 450L. The 450L ran fine stock and runs better with these mods. The 450L is much better on the street - smoother and 6th gear is much higher. And you get Honda reliability. If you want a race bike get something else. If you want a dual-sport that will go anywhere and last forever get the 450L.
I agree. My 350 EXC is buzzy on the road. But great off road. It does appear that the 450L is pretty jam packed under the seat. The exc is easier to work on.

A stock 2019+ 450x header will fit with the fmf slip on as it was designed for the 450x motor, which is the same motor in the RL. Same cam, piston...etc. But the “R”L is corked from the factory for street. I still say they should have called it a XL. Looking forward to future comparisons as I haven’t gotten to ride any of the competitors bikes
If you have to buy a header say the 450x header why not just buy a megabomb header is the stock x header cheaper or something because I’ve seen lots of guys use the x header fmf slip on combo
The tab is there because that pipe isn’t for the 450L. FMF did that intentionally. It’s meant for the 450R or X. Bend the tab back and forth until it breaks off.
I could watch these builds all day. Can't wait for the comparison but from my experience my fe501s is stock is just as good as my friends same set up as this.
I got a big kick out of measuring the OD of the 2 pipes when talking about flow characteristics because we all know that the exhaust flows on the outside of the pipe....no wait it's actually the inside of the pipe !
Taking the canester hoses different pip thermostat and cover changing the mapping it is all really about smog they put on from factory right !!!! I am buying a 2022 crf 450 rl Oct 14 th
I’ve had a KTM 690 Enduro R for my first dual sport, followed by a CRF250L Rally which I owned the 690 and the 250 at the same time. Sold the 690, traded the 250 for the 450RL. The 450 has plenty of everything except for fuel capacity and comfort. That being said. I am looking to get back to a 690/701 machine.

None of u guys ever put a new Exhaust copper gasket on !!!! My new 2022 450 RL ! Pipe just came in also no gasket so I went to Honda and bought one I will never. Put a pipe on with out a new one !! Need to order the new ECU !! Putting on all things before I even start the Bike!!!
I’ve had a bike backfire after removing the screen and “non flamable filter oil” caught on fire. Luckily I was riding in sand and was able to get enough sand into the airbox to put the fire out lol 😆
@@Recedinghairline180 i think it was a preoiled filter that said non flammable ready to use. What does the filter have to say different then that? Haha I assumed I was good at that point. Cause I had heard that happening before so I thought I was good. Lol
@@jimsnider3971 it makes thw bike breath better and it does make more power without the screen. Although if your an average weekend rider I wouldn't take the risk just in case. In order for it to backfire bad enough to cause fire you would have to be running extremely lean and most likely in a motocross situation. Full throttle to no throttle in a split second to cause a backfire. They have fireproof oil and filters, twin air makes the filters and I think motorek has fire proof oil. There's a bunch of brands that are fireproof though just gotta look em up. I left mine in on my 450l for piece of mind. Its not a race bike, it's a trail bike, power isn't everything on a trail bike and I'm not trying to risk a fire and be left stranded lol. Very low chance of it happening though, like extremely low, especially with fireproof stuff. But the gains are their if you want them bad enough

What was the weight difference between the fmf and stock header? I hope you do more videos on the 450rl. Mine gets delivered in April and would like more content on build tips for it to make mine the best it can be
The fmf header is probably alot heavier. The diameter of the pipe is bigger and it's got that massive beehive in the middle. Would definitely be nice to know the weight
I can tell you personally comparing the 450Rl to a 450R is an unfair comparison. Only thing that comes close is when you pop a stage two kit on the 450Rl, but even then the 450R has a higher compression and I believe more horsepower still, so the 450R hits harder.
This is why I always tell people it's easier and cheaper to just buy an R/RX model and add a headlight, taillight, turn signals and license plate bracket if you want all that power.
@StrykerV8 Once I get mine it is going to see more highway miles than I would prefer, but I cant change that. Many RL 😮chassis differences are said to really add up when cruising at 70 and loaded. Longer swing arm(>stabilty), filled with foam for dampening, vibration and noise dampening engine covers, extra piston ring and reduced compression, wide ratio 6speed tranny are examples of why I will get the RL version.

I think I'll just buy a TE 250i and make it street legal and add a 3 gallon tank. More HP than the Honda. MUCH lighter than the Honda. 2- stroke engine is less maintenance intensive/cost.
The exc's require the same mods for them to run correctly, too. EPA applies to all dual sports, except Beta. Import of Beta bikes is limited, allowing them an exemption for EPA standards.
it's such a shame that a $10,000 bike with that 450 motor comes stock with 22 horsepower! Watching the dyno test it looks like the stock ECU limits the power to 22.0 like a built in limiter. So after spending 10 grand I've gotta spend another how much to get what I should have gotten from Honda? That's ridiculous!
That misconception was clarified a few months after Honda first released the performance information on their new (at the time) 2019 crf450L. As soon as l first read that the "new"

Truth is though mods are an addiction and after the GET and end cap for my exhaust, Rekluse, Scotts damper, Seat Concepts seat, Acerbis tank, Tubliss and other stuff I dunno about less money lol. You can't put a price on happiness and a well set up bike though so I am happy for sure.

The CRF450L needs an ECU and exhaust just to be able to ride tight, technical, lugging terrain without flame out. Which, in my mind, is a repair. Cause that shit is broken fresh off the showroom floor. Something two of my friends have dealt with on their 450L's, while my bone stock 350 EXCF hasn't flamed out once.

Yes I agree the off idle fueling is choppy and flames but easily fixed with a $250 dollar tuner, have one myself, the JD tuner is not perfect but less invasive and I can easily crawl in the tight single-track no issues. Not sure why people go buying a "dualsport" and expect a race bike.....the L and RL is a stellar bike, lower compression piston, different cam and tune as intended. No not as high performance but will easily out last any others in reliability and longevity and ride like a champ down the road . Also have a 500exc in the garage, yes its a monster as expected BUT is is also choked up and flames out bad in stock form. Mods also needed to correct that. Close $2k to get all the potential out of it .
I am getting rid of my 350 exc and going with a Honda 450L. The 350 exc really isn't a dual sport. It's horrible on the pavement. Plus, I'm tired of all the nit picky problems that exc's have.

You guys put the black rubber sleeve on backwards. The lip is supposed to be on the other end, where the wiring harness clips in.

You have to use the graphite ring out of the stock muffler to use the FMF on the stock header.
You don't have to take the back screws out, they are for the airfilter housing.

The wll thickness can be assumed to be about the same, within mm for sure

What does the backfire screen do? Protect the air filter from getting torn, and then inhaling dirt?
Protects the filter from catching fire in case of a backfire flame coming back into the airbox.

EPA standards require a very lean running bike. Ridiculous, I agree. The replacement ECU also improves the spark timing and cuts out the rev limiter.

LOL My KTM 300 XC two stroke has over twice as much power than that bike and weighs like 220 pounds.
