  • The 1965 USAC Milwaukee 100 was held on June 6, 1965 at the 1-mile (1.6 km) Milwaukee Mile, in West Allis, Wisconsin. Parnelli Jones was first, Joe Leonard was second, and Jim McElreath was third.

    0:35 Head on into the wall. Held by a lap belt to the unforgiving tubeframe. It must be like Thors hammer into the spine. And lucky if the fueltank keeps intact. This may not look spectacular but its sufficient. I always wonder how men like Foyt, Ruby, Leonard, Jones, Rutherford, Andretti ... Hill were able to come through that times upright on both legs. Looking back to, say, the first Targa Florio from now it must be the most eccentric idea on the planet. Apart from sockholders. And women. Thanks:)

    Towards the end of the race the guy's driving roadsters are envisioning themselves as being in horse-drawn chariots.
