the little girls reaction to that room is absolutely priceless...SO CUTE. She stole the show right there:)The best princess room this show has done hands down! What a stunningly beautiful home, such detail and artistic design. Love it
So if they can build all this in a short time can we have a homeless edition? Where they build small liveable houses for homeless people? That would be really amazing to see
I would really love to see that, you can easily build a cul de sac with several small (but respectable) homes for the same price. And sorry, but I think 'tortured soul from what he's seen in 3 tours in Iraq lost his house while he was getting treatment for his PTSD, now homeless' is a better story than 'Our kid was likely to die, but didn't'. I know your comment is a year old, but I really like your idea!

If a team like this could get together with a governing body and a charity for homeless ( like "Dens") it would be nice

I absolutely LOVE Katelyn's room! To work on Extreme Home Makeover as an interior designer would be a dream come true, I love that people like them make other people's lives easier and I would love to do the same, but by decorating rooms.

It was so cute that the dad kept getting emotional. He was such a great guy. These people are lovely and really deserved everything they got. So happy for them. Thumbs down and negative comments should be forgotten about because they don't matter when there are such kind people in this world - and often people who are less fortunate are the ones who are kind and give to others. I appreciate this family so much.

the dad is soo humble. need more dads like him. amazing
He's lost a lot of weight since then, and they now have four kids. I know this family personally and they are the kindest, most generous people you could ever meet, and are absolutely nothing like the characters on that TV show.
One thing I don't like is they forget kids grow up I don't think she wants a princess room when she's 16
And she wont want a room that suits a 16yo now, Its only a room change it as she gets older.
I'm 16 and I have to say, that's an awesome room! lol
lol myah, they can make it ageless but still , its not hard to repaint once u get older, it's also fun to do :)

These people need a house because of so many reasons. They do good as well. Ty and his crew are doing great things for families who need it. If you have everything you need. WHY JUDGE WHY ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS.. Ask yourself are YOU doing something to help other people you don't know? STOP JUDGING AND BE GREATFULL OF THESE PEOPLE WHO HELP WITHOUT ANY REWARDS. Struggling..nothing seems to work and now fear of death due to debts. What the people who made the house, don't realize is kids grow up, and they are going to haft to remodel the bed rooms. Because I don't think the little girl wants her room to stay like that when she is 15. or the little kid to haft to look at a picture of his face everyday when he get older. I love what they did with this family's house but kids grow up they need to realize that.
Sillylego They're not real designers, who think about changes brought about by time, or the real needs of the family. They're just doing a big boost of everyone's ego, to get idiots watching the show even more idiotic. You don't put kids to live inside a neuron-smashing amusement park.

I had a friend named Jonas with the same illness as the little boy, he couldn't walk and was always in an chair that moved him around. Nobody at my school invited him, he was a "wierdo". But he wasn't. I was the only one who invited him and when I did every time he was so happy. I loved that feeling. He was the best friend I ever had. I moved to Peru a year later and when I come back to Belgium, where I am from. I hear that he passed away. I'm sorry for not spending enough time with you! :)
I wish you guys would show the house more. It just gives quick flashes of each room.

I love the house, great. Only not from our time. Outside great looking but to much maintenance after a view years. Bath tub not isolated, warm water cost money, it will cool down fast in that tub. I am a energy saving guy, like to use solar power and so on. Love the family, they deserve this house. Great episode...

Bunch of haters, all ya'll talk about is" most of these people lose their big houses because they can't afford it" WAKE UP IDIOTSSSSS. mortgage was paid off, of course they have the money now to pay the taxes and utilities because ..THEY PAY NO MORTGAGE. so all income is clean and can be used to pay the rest of the stuff....so stop hating and be happy for them instead.

Exactly. If you make monthly mortgage payments, you can make monthly property tax payments. They will be cheaper

I live in Savannah and I don't know them personally but their well known here. They really did deserve that house. But its sad cause theres now a for sale sign in front. But they really deserved that house. Its a gorgeous house in person.

The only room I don't like is the parents one. That awful fake brick! The house is gorgeous, those circles on the front porch are so pretty. It looks like another city has been added to my bucket list!
Yeah, that room made my OCD go insane. I'm a minimalist and there were wayyyyy too many different patterns, shapes, colors and textures. YUCK
the princess room can be easily transformed into a Gothic style room hahhaah, no worries when the kid grows up XD

I truly believed Paula Dean was not racist. She made some mistakes in the past but i believe in her sincere love for all ethnicities.
In todays world these houses all look over the top . More modest homes; less bling ;less destruction; less noise and all the screeching less hollywood style 80's
most of these families that get home makeovers end up going into debt anyways because they make the house so expensive and the reason the family can't have a nicer house is that they don't have the money in the first place let alone have the money to pay all the bills for an expensive house
I am not a doubting Thomas but this show needs to sit down with the family and budget advisors to work out if they are going to manage all the hidden and not so hidden expenses that pop up before they go ahead with the new build, Ok in a lot of these shows the mortgage is paid off, but if your not good at budgeting and the incoming is less than the out going they are screwed and end up having to sell, i would really hate to pay their power bill .
I am soo happy for them, but Isaac is 8 and has like 4 tvs in his room and stuff. You don't need that many

I am a regular person, so are many other people I know, & many of us could use the help since we don't posess the funds nor means to build or buy a better energy efficient home, many of us are in threat of having our electric and water turned off, many of us are working 7 days a week & still can't feed our families, many of us have endured tragedies & are in threat of going homeless, but because those tragedies don't include cancer we get nada. Good old U.S.A.

I looked it up and they had to pay almost $1,000 a month in taxes..and such a large home would probably warrant large utilities as well..that's a shame that we have to pay taxes on things we own to a greedy gov't..and if you don't pay them they just come and take your house?..wow
They happen to be the 4th party that's lost their home from extreme makeover due to the large taxes on them
Anddi Heir Actually, reading about the people who have lost homes, they all took out mortgages and refinanced the houses to get money to borrow against them, and then proceeded to not pay off those loans, resulting in the home foreclosing.

I think these people are doing great things, but how are the family supposed so pay for all the house bills?
They somethimes pay for a few years or something but not until they move. Usually they don't pay at all and unfourtanetly (I know I spelled that wrong) they loose the house because they don't have enough money to pay for it.
Well seeing as how their mortgage was paid off that should have freed up a good chunk of change monthly which could then be applied to utilities and property taxes...However apparently thats not what they did...I never understood why people on this show would take out second mortgages after the houses were paid off...it never ends well!

Many articles on this, e.g. savannahnow.com/news/2013-08-30/savannahs-extreme-makeover-house-sold-442000 The article says they had fallen behind the property tax bill they had to pay, although to be honest, they originally had a mortgage that the show paid for them, so now, they money they would spend in the mortgage, they could spend it on taxes. But anyway, maybe the taxes were more, I wouldn´t know. Also they had a 4th baby...
