  • Hello and welcome to this video on Boiler wiring by Adrian Davey from Pure Electrical Training.
It's a bit of a rushed video as someone asked me for some help and I've been meaning to make a video on this subject for a while.
Hopefully, it helps in some way until I have the time to do it properly ...

Thanks Alot, really appreciate your work. You made the boiler wiring centre so easy to understand as it always bugs me. Very impressed with how you first directed us to focus on switch Line from Programmer to all the way to boiler and worry about permanent lines in the end to avoid confusion.
    Thanks again

I used to run a mile from boiler wiring. I even got a daft Honeywell aproved installer qualification from Crawley college many years ago - just for bring there for the day. I learned nothing at all from it. JW did an excellent splan vid which gave me confidence to do them. Fault finding can be a bit of a git though I still find...I cheat and use an phone app. This is a good video. particularly the fault finding part.

Fab video as always Adrian. Find your videos so useful when I need to check something.
Only improvement I could suggest is some may not be aware of what parts make up the heating system so for example heating valves and hot water valves. 👍

      100 percent 👌
I’ve wanted to do a video on boiler wiring for ages, but just don’t have the time, and this was just something I quickly put together for someone who needed a bit of support.

Many thanks Adrian, I have a fault on the heating side, when calling for heat (room stat) the pump starts/stops 3/4 times before the boiler starts. From your diagram I can now understand where the fault might be. Thanks again. Regards

Was the first hw valve supposed to be the cylinder stat ?

    • @Pure_electrical_training

      It was indeed 🤦‍♂️
Thanks for pointing it out as I will have to get that changed 👍

Hello Adrian. A slight clarification to avoid confusion. The switch line from each stat powers the motor first in each valve. The mechanism then closes a microswitch attached to the perm line and then gives a switch line to the boiler/pump. Apologies if this has already been mentioned..

Indeed, although the intention was to make a video that acted as a very basic flow/circuit diagram, so that people can understand that all you are dealing with are:
      Permanent lines and switched lines.
Roughly half the cables are neutrals and earths, so it makes it look less scary to a beginner.
It also simplifies the process for fault finding.
There are some amazing videos on how the valves actually work 👍
Thank you for taking the time to get in touch 🤝

Any more resources you could recommend for further reading? Boiler wiring isn't something I've got much experience with. Or just heating controls in general.

Maybe not important but what makes the heating value or hot water value be ON position?

This is great thanks. Was looking for a course for boiler wiring/control centre wiring but couldn't find one.

Would this be wired in 5core flex? Switch line in and out, neutral in and out, and cpc.

      However many cores you need.
I used to run a 5 core from the programmer to the wiring centre for S-plan and 7 core for Y-plan
