That means the world to me!! Definitely trying to keep things engaging, educational, and as creative as possible, so I really appreciate the feedback ❤️
will be a while before I pull the trigger on either one of these synths but this channel is legit the best , I love the emphasis on creativity rather than just hardware ! also super inspiring for using the equipment I do use !
You’re too kind!! I definitely strive for that, I’m undoubtedly always on the hunt for my next piece of gear but I always try to frame things in a practical use perspective & how it might enhance my output. Thanks again for the comment!
A lot of comparisons I've seen have really focused on the difference in audio quality, which I never find very inspiring. So thank you for focusing on how each device's workflow affects the creative process. I got into recording music on a tape four-track, so I love the sound and style of the OP-1. However, while I miss the ability to make sounds fuzzier, I've really enjoyed the process of working with the Digitakt since I got in January; the workflow is really intuitive to me and I feel like the performance and sound sculpting options are all I'll really need with the new OS upgrade.
I find your videos inspiring. I have an Op-1 and I never though of using the blue and white encoders in tape mode as kind of performance tools... anyway, I'll try that. I love the cleanliness of the digitakt, specially for the percussive sounds. Two wonderful machines, too bad my budget just allows one of them
Thanks so much for the kind words! That blue encoder is my best friend, it’s a perfect built-in manual vibrato. And yeah you’re definitely right about the cleanliness of the DT. I welcomed that very much after having just used the op-1 for a few years.
I have both. the tape mode was the main thing I didn't like about the op-1. it's awkward to use with all the copying and pasting. also each track is visualized with only a horizontal line, yet 80% of the screen is to display a vintage reel-to-reel tape recorder. the digitakt is much more pattern based and so it's much easier to arrange a song.
I never really considered how much of the screen is occupied by that big ole tape reel hahah. Makes me think of how else that space could have been utilized…
After watching this second part.. I do realize that despite liking a grid workflow more.. I do have a microcosm coming in next month, and I do enjoy playing melodies on keys more than I do programming parameters for individual triggers. I don’t like the sound quality of the OP-1, and I don’t like the entirely sample based design of the digitakt. I am open to replacing the OP-1, but I don’t know with what.. yet. I tried deluge, it was cool, but not good enough with its synth engine to pick it over the OP-1. I have an iPad Pro with a bunch of apps for sampling, mixing, and synth design.. but nothing beats real buttons. For now. My OP-1 will stay, awaiting its best friend Microcosm.. but I will always dislike its quiet and limited ports and sound quality.. so who knows. Maybe I will replace my OP1 for a digitakt someday, but not today. I love playing keys polyphonically too much to let go of my OP-1 for it right now.
Good to hear your thoughts!! I’ve heard great things about the deluge, but also that the synth engine is limited like you mention. There certainly is a lot of give and take with any of the devices and as much as I love both the OP-1 and DT, they’re far from perfect! You never know what’s around the corner though, both of these have been around for quite a few years and remain mainstays in a lot of folks’ setups. Definitely excited about what’s in the future of all-in-one grooveboxes.
@@DJSoSadRN you should look into these, as I’ve found them incredibly versatile and well built! Patterning 2: basically a Digitakt without the sampler. AUM: an audio Mixer with the ability to send and return from audio plugins Enso: a very VERY good looper app with an intuitive interface Sunrizer: a really good polyphonic synthesizer app with tons of parameters Groovebox by Ampify Music: a complete groovebox with 4 synth engines and a drum box. Good luck!
I tried. I’ve had the op1 for almost a year purchased brand new….. biggest regret I’ve had from the purchase of any music gear in my entire life. The lack of any real sequencing, quantizing… and the GOD AWEFUL needlessly hipster nature of the whole “tape” gimmick is just that… a gimmick. And one that I just couldn’t get past. I’ve put it up for sale and looking into perhaps a digitone or towards a Rytm Mkii.
I am so glad your channel is growing friend!
Thanks so much!! So happy you’ve stuck around the last few months
Your channel is a breath of fresh air dude, like how you split up into concise and interesting sections, well done 👌🙏

Such a good amount of detail. You're a really really good teacher!
Thanks again for watching! Definitely hoping to keep making vids weekly

Of course!! It’s all about how it’s gonna work for you in practice, at the end of the day.
Thanks for your thoughts.... very useful for me to hear your opinion...
My live setup : op 1. Deluge. Flow8. and my colourful zoom Arq 96......
Glad I could help! I’ve always wanted to try the deluge but haven’t had the chance yet.
Warning ⚠️ Try a Deluge and you will be hooked....it’s a briljant machine ....
Very nice video, love your content! One question: Which master effect do you use on number 7 on the OP-1? Sounds very nice!
Thanks! I use 7 to dampen the high frequencies of the master EQ
Nice vid!
Thanks!
Great video. Thanks. Also, really enjoying Alpine Lights on Spotify.
I really appreciate that, thanks so much for listening!
Sold my OP-1 for Digitakt👍🏻

What iPad apps have you found most helpful?
