I have this machine and I love it! I bought it 20 years ago for £89 from a Bernina specialist. It gets serviced and has never let me down. The old heavy machines are the best! ☺️
Thank you for this wonder beginning instruction. I want to learn to sew. I am a retired doctor and have done my share of sewing up people and I am grateful for your help.
Thank You!!!! I have this machine and I didn't know how to wind a bobbin, thread it correctly etc. This video was a lifesaver. I will keep coming back for a refresher.
Thank you so much! You are the first person I’ve found who actually “talks” as you so clearly demonstrate this machine! I paid $300 for this machine this year. It has probably $300 worth of feet and accessories. I love it but have problems with some materials wanting to get chewed under the needle.
Same here! I got my grandmother's machine. I have never used a sewing machine before, so I'm just so glad people put this on TH-cam! Edit: mine's a 731, but the manual works the same
This video was so helpful! I recently got gifted one of these as my mum had one when I was growing up, and I was having a nightmare with all the settings. This got set up and sewing so quickly!!
thank you very much for your intro. Look forward to saw a sail with the Bernina -have leather needles and hope the machine can do it. cheers from the south of Germany
I have this very machine. I haven't got it refurbished yet it still runs well. It is missing a light bulb and the switch to turn the light bulb on that's about it though. I know there's a switch I think on the machine so that you can run it faster but I haven't figured out where that is I used to know but this was my mom's machine so I've had it for well it's been around me since 1965. And my mom taught me how to sew on this machine and I have not used another sewing machine besides this one.
Could you demonstrate how to change the light bulb in this machine please? The heat shield is in the way and my bulb seems stuck in the socket! I learned how to sew on my grandmother’s of this model and my husband bought me one a few years ago. It’s my favorite machine. What a fine piece of equipment! Thanks for your video. It was very informative! 🧵
Glad I found you! I have my mom’s Bernina 730 record. She called it her Cadillac 😂. Question.. why does my thread keep coming out of the needle? It’s not breaking off. Frustrating since I have such a hard time threading the needle 😢.
By the way, I found this hack on TH-cam for easier threading of machine...because the needle and machinery behind are both silver, it's harder to see the needle hole...if you put a piece of white paper behind the needle, you suddenly see it better...been using this and my sewing life is sooooo much easier... especially as I also need glasses to see what I'm doing🤣🤣
Thank You!!! What year was this machine made? Are there plastic gears? I am considering this vintage model, But I have to say, My newest machine is a Pfaff 360. My eldest is a Wheeler and Wilson No.9. Thank you,for any assistance. B
We have the same machine and it sews beautifully. One note you mention the knee control lifts the presser foot but that is not how ours works. Instead of a foot pedal to operate the machine the knee control provides the same function. There is no place to plug in the foot control cord on ours.
Can you help me free up the finger on the needle positioning assembly. It is stuck “in”. I have a penetrating oil on it overnight. I’m not seeing how I can nudge it and it so “in” not much to pull on. I just acquired it and have most things cleaned, oiled and fresh gear lubricant. I had the feed dog mechanism loosed enough I thought but when I replaced the base it wouldn’t work. Applied more penetrating oil on the mechanism right behind the knob and a bit along the pathway I could see movement. Not sure why it moved without the base on but wouldn’t with the base back on. All suggestions welcomed. Thanks. I love the vintage machines.
Hola gracias por el vídeo herede esta máquina 730 de mi patrona . He cocido mucho pero no sé bordar. Y tiene un cajón con bobinas y muchos pies que no se para que sirven. No tiene un manual . Usted tiene más vídeos explicando como se unan . Uno es para coser cierres o cremallera. Los demás no los sé usar.
How to open the top ? I suddenly forgot after sewing on this for 50 years. A repair shop said the wheel froze up. I tookbout the oil its running but cannot open the top
The top just lifts up from the front - hinges at the back. It may be stiff if it hasn't been opened for a long time. There is a small ball bearing and spring type catch inside at the front of the lid in the middle of the machine. That may have got stuck. If you use anything to prise it open, be careful of the paint - use a plastic implement ideally.
Hi the machine that you have on my screen right now the 7:30 Bernina that was my machine that was my mother's machine that she handed down to me which I absolutely love I had a repair person steal it from me throw me it could not be repaired and he said he jumped it yeah well I think differently he stole it how do I get my hands on another one of these do you have any advice where I can find another one I also had the model below this one that my mother picked up for my daughter I now have a brunette t92c Bernina and I can't find the hook timing adjustment on it and this is what is wrong with this one any help would be greatly appreciated if I could get my hands on that machine again I would give anything to have my old machine back I'll tell you so if you know of anybody who sells them for a reasonable price please do let me know I'm in Canada I'm sure that you're in the states probably
I have been sewing on a Bernina Record 730 since 1975. My sewing machine tech just told me that he doesn't think he can get a replacement for my bobbin tire or my upper belt. Would you be able to help me locate the parts I need?

Thank you! I just inherited this machine with no user manual and couldn't figure out how to load a bobbin and backstitch. You saved me!

Your video and explanation of the Bernina 730 was very, very helpful! Thank You!
Excellent video - appreciate the pace and thoroughness. I just got a 730 and am a beginner and this video is perfect.
This video was so helpful! I recently got gifted one of these as my mum had one when I was growing up, and I was having a nightmare with all the settings. This got set up and sewing so quickly!!

How for reverse!?
@@luciahermosillo7786 to reverse you must manually turn the machine using the wheel on the right side.
I am making an Alvin and the chipmunks cosplay and you saved us
Thank you so much
Extreamly intresting and helpfull. Thank you, very much.

Thank you...please show me how to set a zigzag again?
Does the machine have a reverse function?
Rewatch the video where he shows the stitch length lever and reverse is explained.
Mine is diff 540 recotd needle wont move to the middle . Dont want to go up and down to sew something with gears?
Quiero ir a Oregon
do you consult? I was given a Bernina Record 730 and thread does not pick up - perhaps it's the hook or a gear? I wonder if I can do this myself.
A technician will retime the hook position for you easily and quickly.
I need this machine hw can i get
Please when the needle is not moving what can I do

Reverse... How!!?
My reverse wouldn’t work til I put a drop of oil, it’s that lever in the front right, push up for reverse.
Gmail!??
In italiano per favore
Too dangerous. With all the gesticulation he'd be liable to sew his hands together.
By the way I would not recommend any other shop
