How are you, John? I don't have cancer, but do have near - lifelong injuries. Tim Keller's work is indeed a blessing. Inasmuch as you're suffering greatly medically, I recommend the following:
TH-cam videos by Joni Eareckson Tada and by Mark Talbot. Both have a lot of material about suffering and the Christian.
Also, the book, Why, O God: Suffering and Disability in the Bible and the Church.
For rarefied tastes: John Donne's Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions.

I understand the gospel illustration that Tim was presenting. However.... one small point. All but a few never made it into the promised land. "If" of v. 5 presents a conditional. Yes, rewards are given "if" we obey. But what about making into the promised land "if" you continually lose the battle of "obey His voice?" This is where the analogy breaks down because the NT Gospel teaches "no condemnation" (Rom 8) That is, a true believer, saved by grace and regenerated is justified/glorified as once and for all. But the generation that came out of Egypt never made it into the promised land.

There's one MASSIVE error with that line of logic: Moses didn't make it in, either, yet Moses was seen speaking with Yeshua on the mount of transfiguration.

Because he is basically talkin talking but saying nothing. He is just moving word out of his mouth but saying nothing at all. Weird world we live in....

Lep P - Hi! Not sure if my thoughts at reading your comment will help, but...here goes. I’m a grandma, lived over 70 years, all but about 3 of those have been as a child of the King of Glory. Think of a treasure rather than a possession...in the present day culture of most modern lands today, that concept isn’t even talked about. If u r female, there seems to be a longing deep in the heart of a woman to be lifted up, held so as to be admiringly observed with that added lil side note of, “ My gosh! How was I so lucky to be able to have you as my own” (That’s a safe, secure and joyful place for a woman who knows she is loved, treasured and held in such high honor...it defies present day mockers of ...” one man, one woman one life”...idea. But that’s what I believe God has in store for those He loves.

It is quite amazing how God hated idolatry, but, there seems to be a big turnaround somehow, somewhere down the road on his part, by elevating someone to the deity, and quickly changed his mind. His decision to send someone whom we thought he was approved of , an apparently kindhearted gentleman named Jesus, and to our great surprise, shortly thereafter, come another one, refuting everything said by Jesus, and he went as far as equating Jesus as one of the other idols, and therefore shouldn’t be worshipped, and, he, too, has been ascended to heaven just as his predecessor. How could they both be right, when they contradicted each other? It begs the question what is going on in the mind of God? Perhaps, Moses might has well been right, but, his teachings were being rejected as well by Jesus, and in all likelihood, he, too, might have been taken up to heaven well before the apparition of Jesus? If there is only one God, one might wonder, why does he change his mind so often? Is there someone running the show on his behalf, that does not necessarily abide by his guidance? Or, does God just like seeing conflicts? Knowing ahead of time what the future holds, since he encompasses in himself everything, one cannot doubt his capability, thus raises the question why so much confusion with everything which is believed to be from God? Despite knowing everything and being able to do everything, God just simply chooses to be so in erratic in his decision making when it comes to the affairs of the world? With troubles far above our capacity to handle, and with the abundance they keep pouring in on our shores, we often wonder, and with good reasons, why are here? Knowing of the immeasurable capacity of our creator, and seeing the constant bombardments hitting us from all corners, we find ourselves wondering, if at all there exists any meaning behind our existence, if our creator does not give up on us? It does seem we can’t really tell the forces against which we’re fighting, to the ones presumably we’re surrounded by as our refuge. We mostly seem to bombarded by frenemies claiming they are on side, when in fact they don’t. While, we humanly incapable of sorting them through, God, our creator can’t pretend he doesn’t know. When he purposely surrounds us with his supposedly allies, whom he knows are not, we cannot help but, wondering what goes wrong with him? Why can’t he call a spade, a spade, and just throw all devils to hell? Instead, we witness some kind of appeasement on his part, that tends to engulf us more and more down the abyss of malfeasance and a blatant disregard to our right of existence. That what we resent. Since you are above all, none of your craps called angels would ever play with fire, which would mean to attack you personally, now they know that is out of question. But, what point does it make when you delegate them to attack us , to give yourself a reason to deal with them? What sense does it make to your, I would like to know? Of all the times you have pounding your might on us , when have you ever brought up anyone of us to heaven to persecute your craps up there, before taking any measures against us? I don’t think Sodom and Gomorrah ever had that chance? I am not sure, anyone of those you destroyed in the time of Noah ever had that chance. Why is it , we are always at the receiving end of your venom? I wonder what your devils that special, even when they decide to do anything they choose to do, which we have anything whatsoever to do with, you have to find someone to saddle them with, in other for you to deal with them? I want to know what makes them that special. Please tell me, I want to know. Furthermore, if you were to punish a devil for destroying someone’s life like you allow them to do with Job, would that just tying them down with a rope, putting a rock covering a dark hole, simply to prevent them from flying around? Does that, according to you outweigh the pain of losing all of your kids, and everything else you might have possessed? Is that the most severe punishment you can think of? Perhaps, had you done otherwise, your begotten son would have known to steer clear of any wrong doing, and the bloodshed of the cross would not have taken place, nor would they openly engaged in doing things they know you do not approve of. In all seriousness, if they believed you were any serious when it comes to taking drastic measures for their deliberate acts of stupidity, and if you, yourself believed in what comes out of your own mouth when it comes to punishment against your favorites, in no circumstances, would you have ever decided to saddle any human being with your devils for their deliberate barbaric acts. It is sickening to hear you openly and without any shame whatsoever to declare in the face of Jesus, that, if they, in heaven were not Gay, those who are on earth, would have been destroyed by you by fiat as you did in Egypt for the first born of every family. While in the same breath, to avoid emptying your favorites from heaven for the very same act for which you would destroy those on earth, you first delegate that very Jesus to persecute someone on earth seeking to find yourself a reason to expel him from heaven, when he hesitated to do what he you want to do kick him out, you now delegate others, for the very same reason. Now, who are we on earth to you, that your angels are not, that you overvalue them like that? I want to know. I am not playing advocate, but, if it sins then call it sin everywhere. It cannot be punishable to some and not others. What makes them so special? I want to know. For more than 14 years , I cannot remember one day, when I do not wake up with pain on my back, caused by your crappy creatures, for deliberately choosing to do right under your very eyes in heaven what they know they shouldn’t be doing. You couldn’t go straight to the source to deal with them, you have to subject someone else to their griff simply because you’re playing hide-and-seek with them? I don’t understand that, I resent that with all of my strength. No justification could be any better than on you as the creator of heaven and earth. If you cannot let them trample you down to deal with them as you claim, then it could not be justifiable on anyone else. Stop playing that kind of nonsense. We want you to tell us a lot more about that Jesus you make us worship and for whom far too many have lost their lives , and it cannot be just for fun. You almost seem to sound like a joke, but, that only sounds funny for you and your accomplices. Go to some part of the world today, when people are living in hiding, not because of any crime they might have committed, but for the sake of your Jesus. To these days, you are still playing with them. When will you finally take a break? If you don’t need a break from your senseless game, we do. From the many who left their marks in the Bible, trough the various troubles of their lives, who have cried from hell , under the griefs of your beloved ones, and the many whose blood and sweats had permeated and whose feet have paved the way we walk . According to your Jesus, they cried under the heavyweight you have left them to struggle under, and you still playing the same game with them? To what end? We need to breathe, too much is too much.
