I love the idea of combating the image of the elephant. One has to have a perfect view of religion and the cosmos in order to say that each person only has part of the truth. And that no one has the full truth. Very clever. Also, the comment that we are ready to be used by God because we limp. I may have heard something in a sermon somewhere about that before, but it is also a wise observation. Lastly, I think of the scripture, I longed to know Christ, and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his suffering. Tim Keller himself certainly experienced that.

That is just what I am doing with early Genesis. Showing how Genesis should be re-interpreted in light of what Christ said in John 5:46 and the Road to Emmaus. Moses was writing about HIM.And when you do that, most of the paradoxes from science and history vanish away effortlessly. Just by re-interpreting the text by asking "what meaning most points to the work and person of Christ?"

Socialist ? That is what most are doing . Timothy Keller was an actual theologian. And one, like Anglicans of old, deeply interested in history, philosophy, language, psychology ….. much less sociology. Sociology is a new major and you’ll find some of the least intelligent “ intellectuals” there. He mostly stays away especially when you consider he’s in New York City .
Brilliant man, called by God I have no doubt , but more over a good man who actually had something to say relevant to now, our current zeitgeist .
Thank you Tim. You were a fabulous example. Anybody dumb enough to
Wonder “ if “ he was Christian is probably part of the problem .

    Hebrews 2:13-18
    "13 And again,
" I will put my trust in him."
    And again he says,
" Here am I and the children God has given me."
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shares in their humanity( you and me in Christ) so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death- that is, the devil-

17 For this reason he( Jesus😊1st❤) had to be made like his brothers in every way( Jesus understands us in Christ), in order that he might become an merciful(❤ 😊❤) and faithful(😊1st❤) high priest( Jesus😊1st❤) in service to God, and that might make atonement❤ for the sins of the people.
18 Because he (😊1st❤) himself❤ suffered when he tempted( if our Lord and our savior( Jesus) was tempted too ( Matthew 4:1-11, 4;7,10 !,# Luke 4:1-14, 4;8,12,)
he( 😊1st❤) is able to help those who are being tempted "( Hebrews 2:13-18 Zondervan NIV Study Bible And all parenthesis parts and symbols of love ❤ also for and in Christ too. Today do you believe in God or Jesus( John 1:1) is able to help you today too?

" Because he ( Jesus😊1st❤) himself suffered when he was tempted, he( Jesus😊1st❤) is able to help those who are being tempted."( Hebrews 2:18 ❤ and In Jesus'name, i pray( Matthew 4:4,7,10 and Luke 4:4,8,12 and Ephesians 6:10-20❤) Amen.

Share in❤love in Christ and for Christ( Jesus😊1st❤). In Jesus'name, i pray(Hebrews 2:5-18( Jesus made like His brothers). Amen.
      Hebrews 2:5-12
"5 It is not angels that he( 😊1st❤) has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
6 But there is a place where someone testified:
" What is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him
      7 You made him a little lower than the angels;
you crowned him( Jesus😊1st❤) with glory and honor and put everything under his( Jesus' feet😊❤) feet.
In putting everything under him( Jesus😊1st❤), God( 😊100%❤) left nothing is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.
9 But😊❤ we see Jesus(😊1st❤), who was made a little lower than the angels, now crownee with glory😊❤ and honor😊❤ because he( Jesus😊1st❤) suffered death,
      so that
by the grace( freely given grace from God's grace) of God he might taste death for everyone.
10 In bringing ❤ many sons( sons and daughters of God in Christ today too) to glory😊❤, it was fitting that God(😊100%❤),
      for whom
      and
      through
      whom everything
      exists,
      should make
      the author of their salvation❤
      perfect 😊❤through suffering😂.
11 Both the one❤ who make men holy❤ and those who are made holy❤ are of
the same family❤( family of God❤). So Jesus(😊1st❤) is not ashamed to call them❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ brothers( or brothers or sisters in Christ today too in Christ).
      12 He says,
" I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation😊❤ I will sing your praises😊❤."(so far up to Hebrews 2:5-12 Zondervan NIV Study Bible and all above all in all for Christ and all parenthesis parts and symbols are in and for Jesus my Lord( Jesus😊1st❤) and my savior (😊1st❤)too in Christ . In Jesus'name, i pray(
      1 John 4:18-❤19
      1John 4:19❤--->❤
      John 14:6) Amen.

Jesus says we are to love our neighbor, our enemy, our fellow believers, and we are to share the gospel. Keller believed that, taught it, and lived it. Some people think there are loopholes. There are not. Everyone has sinned. Jesus is the word and has existed before time. You can not say you love Him and not do as He says, which means live for Him, not yourself.

I am quite conservative, and Tim Keller is arguably my favorite pastor to listen to. People don't like him because he doesn't spend 80% of his sermons lecturing on sin and especially LGBT. He never affirmed those things and even spoke clearly against them in his books, but his ministry wasn't focused on fighting back against LGBT - it was on spreading the Gospel and evangelizing to bring people to Christ. I think his strategy was basically "If someone truly comes to Christ, they will WANT to leave their old LGBT identity behind out of faith and obedience to their loving savior", which I think is more what our culture needs today. The pastors that constantly preach against LGBT certainly have their place, but Tim Keller had his own way of doing things that was equally faithful.

Though I fully believe Tim was a Christian, his socialistic ideas and ideals showed through his preaching more and more over the years. To the point I couldn't listen or read his stuff. Here also, I want to hear it but I am weary of so much he said... May he rest in God's loving arms and perhaps I will discuss this with him one day in eternity.

Out of curiosity my friend, what was it that you were weary of?
I found myself being really challenged by keller's lecture here in a convicting way.
I really wondered whether I have a genuine love for the secular people I share the Gospel with. Or whether its just another ploy at self-justification.

@@joshlarking3962 thank you for asking! What a good thing to be challenged by.
My point was not about this specific video. His ideals and ideas in general have made me weary of wanting to listen or read his materials at all. I am sure he has really good biblical sermons, probably like this one but I can't get myself to consume any of it anymore because I'm constantly "on edge" due to his political ideas.
I live in a very secular, socialistic society and I just don't need to have any of that added in any biblical teachings as it isn't hopeful to me but the opposite.
      Hope that makes sense.

Makes sense that you would see it more and more if you are in the ultra secularised parts of this world.
Here in NZ I feel that we aren't a culture that's geared towards producing thinkers and preachers like Keller so you can probably understand the stark contrast listening to him from my perspective.

Hetrosexuality will not get you to heaven. Living a moral life will not get you to heaven. You, I, and Tim are just as condemned as a practicing homosexual without Jesus's sacrifice. What is it, don't you get? Do you think there are different levels of hell?
Correction Keller has been made perfect by Jesus. You and I are not. Keller never said homosexuality was right. He said it was not an excuse not to love them and give them the gospel. Self-righteous people think we are graded on a curve with multiple unforgivable sins on the list.

@@idneilkell what an amazing, mic drop, shut him down, answer. Yea, people that condemn homosexuality and are always pointing out other’s sin and don’t look at, let’s say, greed, or envy, or the love of money (sins that are even more insidious) are fooling themselves. They call out “socialism,” but don’t call out the evils of capitalism, too. Let’s not forget that the early Christian’s lived in communes. I am very sure that Jesus will condemn many heterosexuals for their hypocrisy and for chasing away millions from Christ because of their terrible judgmental ways. That is “woke!”

(The following could probably apply to Keller, too.). Look! Piper, oh-so-humble, accuses prolifer’s of lying! “Christians communicate a falsehood to unbelievers (who are also baffled!) when we act as if policies and laws that protect life and freedom are more precious than being a certain kind of person.” Look! The ever-humble Piper calls us presumptuous! “And I think it is baffling and presumptuous to assume that pro-abortion policies kill more people than a culture-saturating, pro-self pride.” Look! On a roll, making it a triad of nastiness, Piper calls us naive! “It is naive to think that a man can be effectively pro-life and manifest consistently the character traits that lead to death - temporal and eternal.“. (Now, don’t be offended, because Piper has given us the freedom to vote for whoever we want to, without even sinning. As long as your comfortable with being a liar, being naive, and being presumptuous. As an aside, does Piper have the power to exonerate Trump voters for “communicating falsehoods”? Sounds pretty sinny to me…)
