@bdrmongoose78 he was falling when he caught it so he had to land with possession of the ball, when he goes to the ground he bobbles the ball against the ground so it's not a catch, since it's not a catch it doesn't matter if he crossed the goalline with the ball in his hands; it's a really simple rule, and I don't get why so many people don't understand it, at least you think the dive was a separate move from the fall, but because of all the outcry we have the new rule which is kinda just if it looks like a catch when it happens it is but just wait until the next big game where somebody "catches" something that we all see hit the ground and there'll be outcry again
I still have to gripe about that Lions/Falcons game. Yes, he was touched down at the one yard line. But what kind of stupid rule is the 10 second run off?? It’s not the teams fault you got the call wrong and had to review it. There was no penalty on the offense. The lions could’ve gotten another play off in 8 seconds, all the players were right there. Once again, a team loses because of stupid rules by the NFL.
@William burd yeah but he also planted 2 feet before he hit the ground. It's not as if he caught the ball in a diving fashion, then I'd agree with you. He caught it, planted both feet, then fell. The 2 feet alone shows possession. He was standing for at least a second or two before falling
Calvin caught the fuck out of that ball. You used to actually have to touch the ball down in the endzone back in the very old days, and these refs are just blind
The cowboys in the 1st clip it wasn’t holding the redskins did the same thing but refs didn’t do shit lions Calvin Johnson rule refs said it wasn’t a catch then Bryant did catch the ball no body new about the hands need to stay in bounce
That heartbreaking Steve Smith play is one of many that will be erased this year!! 4:50 the way he says “pass interference. Offense #89” makes it even worse.
Sydney Kenney Glad to see a Pats fans that's actually aware... that trip to the Super Bowl was a gift. Pats should've played the Jags, and the Steelers the Titans. AFC Championship would've been in Pittsburgh.
nahor88 even though the rule is stupid call wasnt wrong, and all u steelers fans forget u were only a yard away from a Td or a fg for ot. The game wasnt lost bc of the overturn u easily could've won. Also for the amount of trashtalking the steelers did you would think they could beat the jags at home
I mean, we can argue all we want about what the rules should be, that's entirely subjective (and I think a lot of people don't understand the ramifications of what "simplifying" the catch rules would have), but it was the right call according to the rule book they were playing under.
No excuses. Your team should win the #1 NFC seeding, as you have a strong, but convenient schedule for 2020. Only the Chiefs & Ravens can stop you this time.

Bennie Ben Exactly, the Dez play didn’t finish in the end zone like rest and even if it did leaving Rodgers with 4 and a half minutes to get into FG range is comical
@@noex100 It's not really that clear though. The lions have run similar plays in under 8 seconds, and even if it's hard to execute it's not really right to assume they couldn't have done it, esp when everyone was already up on the goal line. Regardless of whether or not they could've, the fact that the refs made a wrong call and the lions had to pay for their mistake isn't a fair way to end the game.
Megatron's catch was questionable, but rules are rules, even if they make no sense. On the other, James's catch was legit as you can see that his right hand is always under the ball and never touched the ground even after hitting the ground
megatron didn't hold onto the ball..the real guy who got screwed was dez bryant in the playoffs lol that was a catch all day long and the NFL had the nerve right there on national tv to show their true colors and since then ALOT of people have opened their eyes to what the NFL is really doing.
I vaguely remember a game tying 2 point conversion or something like that (even in the playoffs?) with Kansas City called back because of a hold on Eric Fisher.
So when they starting to fine players for flopping? They don't make nearly as much as NBA players but you can see how much of a bullshit play can change the whole game.
Why were the announcers making a big deal on that holding call? Its get away (maybe) with a penalty, or the quarterback gets sacked and it's over anyways.
The lions games were both garbage calls. Calvin had possession and that is a TD. Under the same rule, Tate was ruled down while not having possession until he fell in the Endzone. Detroit 2-0, in this video.
I'm still amazed every year at how little credit he gets. According to the cold hard numbers he is every bit as good as Brady and some seasons even better than him, but because he has always had a weak supporting cast no one ever sings his praises like they should
SwankBones he plays in a dome in a absolutely trash division. (Panthers and falcon have been ok the last couple years-brees has been there for a decade). Plus he stat pads A LOT. 5000 yards sounds great until you watch game tape and see he puts up 200 yards in garbage time against the buccaneers lol.
Dylan Bloomer trash division? It’s the most competitive and complete division at the moment with 3 very good QB’s. Until the Panthers pulled it off, no team had repeated as division champs since 2002. Meanwhile Brady plays in the weakest division in football with a guarantee of at least one home playoff game every year. Pads stats? Generally when you’ve had the statistically worst defense in history 3 times you have to throw for a ton of yards and TD’s just to keep your team in the game. In 2011 alone (when Brees broke almost every record imaginable) he sat out the majority of the 4th quarter in 3 games I know of right off the top of my head. Plus, how many playoff games have we seen Brees pull off a game winning drive just to watch the defense let it go? With even a mid tier defense, Brees would have at least 2, possibly even 3 titles by now.
Dylan Bloomer trash division? Nigga are u drunk? The nfc south is rated the most competitive division in the league. Two of the last 3 mvps are in the south. Sent three teams to the playoffs. That playing in a dome shit has been debunked so try again please. You probably just started watching football huh
Legendary Ben I said the division was actually ok the last couple years. Drew brees has been playing against them since 2006 though not 2014. Almost a decade of him playing trash teams 6 times a year.
In the Pitt-NE game, the correct ruling should have been a catch-fumble-recovery in the end zone. The receiver had already made the catch, made a football move, his knee touched the ground, and then he leaped untouched to the end zone. (with a little movement of the ball in the end zone) The moment he crossed the goal line, the play is over.
James never completed the process of making the catch; he was not in control of his forward motion so by definition he cannot make a football move, his knee was down but not by contact and he was still in the process of trying to complete the catch, and the ball breaking the plane is irrelevant; the receiver must still complete the process and James didnt.
Now that I think about it, you can include the Tuck Rule, and Detroit's facemask stop before the Hail Mary TD, since Oakland and Detroit both would've won their respecive game had it not been for the officials.
tom brady not allowed on the list hes playing till he s 50 i do think if your allowed to touch him youd go to jail or prison fuck the nfl thats billion dollar baby

They still had like 3 more tries at the goal line and couldn't pull it off. Don't blame the refs for that.
Corey Sweet they also had a timeout
Zachary Fleming well... that makes it worse
The yellow line under points signifies who has possession, so they did not have a timeout
It would be such an easy fix to. Just have it so that the ten second runoff can't end the game.
They did not have a timeout and they could not have gotten another play off.
The Calvin Johnson rule. My dad an my uncle was at that game. They sat in that end zone when Calvin Johnson made that catch.
That was such a BS call. He had a firm grasp on the ball when his hand and butt hit the ground.
@William burd yeah but he also planted 2 feet before he hit the ground. It's not as if he caught the ball in a diving fashion, then I'd agree with you. He caught it, planted both feet, then fell. The 2 feet alone shows possession. He was standing for at least a second or two before falling
@@jocamadad it wasn't a bs rule. That wasn't a catch in the NFL dictionary.

@@hobbesdatiger4321 shut ya dumb ass up they already said he caught it shit head
Calvin caught the fuck out of that ball. You used to actually have to touch the ball down in the endzone back in the very old days, and these refs are just blind

Third 2:16
Fourth 2:43
Fifth 3:44
Sixth 4:25

That Calvin Johnson call was criminal.
Cowboys and lions got robbed
Yeah, not so much
Barry Swanson yes they did all of of does calls where bullshit
Yael Nunez the rules at the time disagree with you
Still
The cowboys in the 1st clip it wasn’t holding the redskins did the same thing but refs didn’t do shit lions Calvin Johnson rule refs said it wasn’t a catch then Bryant did catch the ball no body new about the hands need to stay in bounce
I love how some players try to act innocent when they commit the most obvious penalties I’ve ever seen

Im a packers fan and hate the lions and i can admit that call was horseshit. Prob a big factor in johnson retiring early
Being a packers fan, that was complete bull shit. I still hate the lions, but they deserve a shot too.

Glad to see a Pats fans that's actually aware... that trip to the Super Bowl was a gift.
Jonathan An I'm a Pat's fan....
It’s frustrating
I mean, we can argue all we want about what the rules should be, that's entirely subjective (and I think a lot of people don't understand the ramifications of what "simplifying" the catch rules would have), but it was the right call according to the rule book they were playing under.
Poor Lions.

That's because refs all of a sudden don't know the rules anymore.
The ref that said Calvin Johnson didn’t make the catch was playing against him in fantasy football.
Best rule in NHL hockey. “Embellishment rule”. All other sports would benefit from implementing this one rule.
This would be nice for obvious flops, might be hard to implement though
NBA and soccer need that do badly
How about a "Steelers fan still crying about a play from two years ago" rule?
Yep, penalty and a fine.

Where’s the dez Bryant play against GB???
Cuz it wasn't technically a "game winner" it was a close game but wasn't really the deciding play
Bennie Ben yes it was. If they called that a catch the cowboys definitely would’ve won

Bennie Ben Exactly, the Dez play didn’t finish in the end zone like rest and even if it did leaving Rodgers with 4 and a half minutes to get into FG range is comical
Wasnt even close to a game winner
Calvin caught it and there shouldn’t have been on a ten second run off
Why shouldn't there be a runoff? The Lions clearly wouldn't have gotten another play.
@@noex100
It's not really that clear though.
@@noex100 Also the lions had a timeout they could've used right when Calvin went down.
The one with Megatron and Jesse James should've counted.
They would have counted if they held on to the ball, they didn't.
If they didn't need to then those plays would have been ruled complete passes. I don't agree with some of the rules but those are the rules.
Gim Bob Jenkins Agreed. But the jesse james one looked like a catch
Megatron caught that football. No arguments or discussions!!!
I vaguely remember a game tying 2 point conversion or something like that (even in the playoffs?) with Kansas City called back because of a hold on Eric Fisher.
JTR exactly
So when they starting to fine players for flopping? They don't make nearly as much as NBA players but you can see how much of a bullshit play can change the whole game.

6:26 this play still pisses me off even if that wasn’t a TD the game shouldn’t have ended in that way
Conner Juhls they had a time-out left to so if the refs would have gotten the call right the first time who knows who would have won
@@TheKingJJ13 No the Lions did not have a timeout. The yellow line indicated that they were in possession of the football.
The lions games were both garbage calls. Calvin had possession and that is a TD. Under the same rule, Tate was ruled down while not having possession until he fell in the Endzone. Detroit 2-0, in this video.
Truthfully, Golden Tate made a mistake cutting his route short. That left it in the refs' hands.
The game that made drew Brees famous
Dude that Calvin Johnson one is just hurting my soul
Stopping the game at a flag is a ridiculous rule. Redo the play at a yard penalty!
Poor people that lost these touchdowns
this happened to Romo alot feels bad man
Megaton was robbed
JESSE JAMES CAUGHT THAT BALL
In the Pitt-NE game, the correct ruling should have been a catch-fumble-recovery in the end zone.
The receiver had already made the catch, made a football move, his knee touched the ground, and then he leaped untouched to the end zone. (with a little movement of the ball in the end zone)
The moment he crossed the goal line, the play is over.
James never completed the process of making the catch; he was not in control of his forward motion so by definition he cannot make a football move, his knee was down but not by contact and he was still in the process of trying to complete the catch, and the ball breaking the plane is irrelevant; the receiver must still complete the process and James didnt.
1:27

Now that I think about it, you can include the Tuck Rule, and Detroit's facemask stop before the Hail Mary TD, since Oakland and Detroit both would've won their respecive game had it not been for the officials.
