@@yyxy5798 Actually, the NFL didn't implement the "Maintain Control" rule until the offseason AFTER this play. This was the play that led to that rule becoming official. When this game happened, it was just up to the refs to make the call.

I’m a Cowboys fan, and I totally agree. I forgot the play happened, but I likely initially got excited, then saw the replay and got disappointed but realized it wasn’t logical not to call holding.

I still have to gripe about that Lions/Falcons game. Yes, he was touched down at the one yard line. But what kind of stupid rule is the 10 second run off?? It’s not the teams fault you got the call wrong and had to review it. There was no penalty on the offense. The lions could’ve gotten another play off in 8 seconds, all the players were right there. I mean, we can argue all we want about what the rules should be, that's entirely subjective (and I think a lot of people don't understand the ramifications of what "simplifying" the catch rules would have), but it was the right call according to the rule book they were playing under.

I think what’s ruining football more than anything is how the spontaneous joy that comes with celebrating big plays has almost been completely eliminated. You can’t even cheer for anything that happens because it’s so likely it’s either coming back because of a penalty or a replay.

The ref on field said touchdown, so the clock stopped.....no pentaly on the offence, lions, on the moving clock. Why a 10 second run off. Granted replay claim he short.....but10 second run off, .com on....should line up ball and start clock right away. Bad rule at that situation if you ask me

These are dudes that can run 40 yards in 5-6 seconds. They can line up in less than 8 from a yard out
In the Pitt-NE game, the correct ruling should have been a catch-fumble-recovery in the end zone.
The receiver had already made the catch, made a football move, his knee touched the ground, and then he leaped untouched to the end zone. (with a little movement of the ball in the end zone)
The moment he crossed the goal line, the play is over.
James never completed the process of making the catch; he was not in control of his forward motion so by definition he cannot make a football move, his knee was down but not by contact and he was still in the process of trying to complete the catch, and the ball breaking the plane is irrelevant; the receiver must still complete the process and James didnt.

that "incomplete" pass on the lions for Calvin Johnson is why refs and people in the booth need to be fined for making bad calls, for example super bowl 40, the ref even admitted he botched calls, thats why they should be fined.
