@@DariaPonomarenkoArt I always say…you want the best pressure curve and best drawing experience use a pencil. But…as a digital artist it is nice to have tools that do not get in the way. The reality is art can be created in many ways…this device is one of them. It is a digital drawing and media consumption experience. Phones are a grand these days…but you can get a really inexpensive one that makes calls for less than a hundred. I guess it all depends on what your needs are. This device makes sense for those that need something like this(or at least think they do). I say draw and create where you are. The magic pad is a great way to do it. So is a pencil:) But a pencil can’t check my email, let me watch a tutorial, play a game or get the weather;) M

I have a XP-Pen display tablet and the nicer pen that comes with that will also work with the magic tablet. That's a very cool feature. My ipad died and will probably replace it with the Magic pad instead of another ipad. Nice review.

As someone who uses XP-Pen since march 2021 (ever since I had a PC) I cannot wait to try this tablet! My main Tablet is an Artist 24 Pro that I have been using for two and a half years, and it is literally perfect! Sometimes I go back to the Artist 15.6 Pro or the StarG960S depending on my needs and I also have their smallest tablet for playing osu, and one that works perfectly with android devices (got these two long before my own PC, the osu tablet to use on my friends pc and the other one to use with my old android tablet) Literally never ran into issues with their tablets, except for the pen on my osu tablet breaking after multiple years of use and travelling with it, but I can literally just use almost any other pen from that brand as a replacement. XP-Pen is always my first recommendation for people wanting to get into digital art, and their devices do last for quite a long time.
I just got one of these and it's the best drawing experience that ive had on a tablet yet. Beats samsung and surface devices. I havent had any performance issues yet.

@@marcusop547 I am not a good person to ask for an opinion towards Apple products, but this is my observation : For basic work, the Gen 9 is for sure still useful, but If you want like high performance and also better long-term support and functionality, I would go for the higher priced but stronger IPad options. Apple is PRICEY with some products, but if you are more comfy with IOS and not so much android I can understand. I am more of a Android person, but you can for sure find better reviews here!
I bought the Tablet in Australia after watching this today, a very well rounded review and realisitc way I think this will work on a day to day. Atm it's 18% off here making it $427 USD with free shipping. I sadly had to replace my 1st Gen iPad Pro 12.9" and the thought of spending over $2000 AUD just to sketch is a bit of a steep buy in. I usually take my paid work into Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop for the final result but now I can start my drawings on the couch again and enjoy that etched glass. One of the things I didnt like was how slippery the iPads are to draw on and always needing to charge the pencil. If its good enough i wonder if it can be used as a 2nd display on windows 11? Im keen to see if the USB-C has external display use. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for this vid, I've heard more mixed things on this tablet from others because of the pen-alignment being wonk but apparently that's easy to fix and you likely did so if you're drawing so happily with it. I'm tempted on this thing but my only thing is- I hate subscriptions and I'm kind of married to Clip Studio and, naturally they heard dollar signs instead of warning sirens when people were running to them to get away from Adobe's subscription service. If XP or Huion ever make a windows tablet (that isn't $1,700 in Huions case) I'd hop on it since, ya know- options. But I will keep this thing in my sights

I already have a main Huion tablet for working at home, but this one looks great for a portable and also affordable tabled compared to iPad. My biggest "fear" was me not knowing the brand, but after this I feel like I might get one soon

This tablet is something I have DREAMED of for a long time now, as I've had progressively worse experiences with Apple and their iPad Pros as their models have progressed. As the iPad is my main platform, nothing else has been comparable to the power I got from the Pro and Pencil. This though, is a GAME CHANGER. BYE BYE APPLE! Good riddance! So extra, extra thank yous for comparing it back and forth to personal, long-term use of an iPad.
So far I liked the tablet, and it has a reasonable price. My only concerns is that we don’t have a dealer in the Middle East, also there are some exclusive apps that are only available on iPad which requires to have a firm thinking before buying it

I believe this will be resolved in later driver updates. It was a small issue in the beginning and I reached out to XPPen. They indicated the cursor was calibrated to a pen at 90 degrees and for left and right hand users. I understood…and requested a calibration tool similar to the desktop drivers. They said possibly in a later update. It is a great machine. I have gotten used to the slight offset. We will see how it performs in a year. M
@@MichaelClaridaArts Thank you or that info, I'm actually left handed so can appreciate how often devices are gears towards right handed users so glad to hear it from my side...The calibration tool on their pen displays work really well so hopefully they manage to sort that out. I'll most likely get one of these regardless as have been waiting a tablet for a while now and this seems like the best option for me. Thank you for the help.

Okay, I actually have a question I couldnt seem to get anywhere- XP-Pen sells a shortcut remote. Would that work with it? 🤔 I really wanna get it when I get my next commission, but I have been spoiled by my shortcuts from my 15.6 pro
i do digital art for a living too. started on photoshop, transitioned to medibang, now using desktop krita. This is the most interesting equipment I have seen in youtube in a while. I wonder how it works on Krita? I saw on your video that you have it installed. Have you checked out how it does in that app? I think that a portable tablet like that is very useful when an artist is outside and just need something to quickly do some work on the go. Thanks for making me aware of the existence of this product.
Android Krita is basically the same as desktop Krita, so the functionalities are the same, but the UI is the same as desktop, so it takes up A LOT of your screen, and your screen is smaller on tablets.
The galaxy s tablets come with the s pens. It's not a sperate purchase. The Tab A series no longer has s pen compatability. This retails for like 500 usd? If it does its competition is Samsung and Lenovo at that price point. Top of the line Lenovo is 300 to 400 usd for 8 core apu and 8gb ram with 128 gb storage. Samsung is around 500 to 600 starting for the bottom of the line 12 in Tan S series usually. They have gone up in price though.
Yea…I just looked over the Samsung line up. This tablet is priced to the lower end of the 12.4 tablets. I own a S6 lite and it is great. With the XPpen unit one is getting great pen tech and similar performance at a slightly lower price point. Every tablet has its strengths and challenges. So far…my XPPen unit is superior to my Samsung. Albeit I have not used the latest 12-14” Galaxy tab s9. At the end of the day…XPPen’s first stab at the tablet market has been great for me. I continue to push it and look forward to updates. The reality is that we as users continue to get better and better tech every year! Thank you for the comment! Back to drawing!!! M

Sorry if I came across as boujey. 😆 I enjoy your channel cause you take a deep dive into products and haven't abandoned the art industry for youtube. It will compete with the Samsung full feature series not the F7 which is the "affordable" model. Closer to the price of this XP Pen for less ram and storage. Still a good deal. The Lenovo is less and has better features for techies not for artist. Good video, nice cartoon bunny.
I've seen some complaints that you can't calibrate the cursor on this, so because it's alinged centrally it appears offset if the pen is held at an angle. Did you (or anyone else here) find that an issue?
Yes…currently it is aligned to the tip of the pen at 90 degrees. At a natural drawing angle in my hand…the cursor is offset slightly. No adjustment currently. However, they are working on updating so one can calibrate and adjust the cursor offset. If you are working in Clip Studio paint…you can adjust the cursor offset in preferences. I had mentioned the offset issue in the testing phase and the return comment was that calibrating the cursor at the tip at 90 degrees helps facilitate left and right hand users. That being said…XPPen has heard the people and are working on a way to adjust. That is huge. I have Apple, Samsung tablets and they do not allow for adjustments system wide. XPPen will issue updates soon to allow for the user adjustment(I am not sure when). Thanks for the comment. M

Pen tip calibration is pretty far off on this one.. hopefully they've fixed it by now. I'm definitely considering this one, even though I'd have to learn new software. I've used procreate for years. CSP I guess.
They released a driver update that allows the user to adjust the curser to top alignment. All fixed. It was not terrible to begin with…but driver update has fixed any issues. M
Mmm…it activates very similar to their desktop display tablets with similar tech. I own a M2 iPad Pro 12.9 as well as a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9. The hover feature is nice…but the IPad and pencil are almost 3 times what this costs at a similar storage configuration. The Magic pad is so good at drawing. I had a blast using it and continue to choose it over my other tablets. For me…investment vs return…the Magic pad is a clear winner!
Thank you for your answer. I usually use an xp pen artist pro or wacom one as secondary display with a mac and use photoshop or krita to do digital painting. Tool's preview and even tilt are essentials features for me. It is hard to imagine how I could be really accurate without tool's preview.
@@LionelChardine so I just did a hover test in clip studio and in sketchbook pro. The preview of the brush I have selected is active the same as on my desktop. I hope that answers your question. M
Companies with a long history are good, but companies specializing in one thing are even better. Apple is a well-known brand, but their pencil, let's be honest, is far from an ideal drawing tool. No matter how good the iPad is, it is devalued by the fact that the pencil is bad.
It is expensive and not convenient. This is a thing that was made for the sake of design, and not for the sake of convenience. In short: 1. It is heavy along its entire length, which makes the top heavier than the feather. 2. The touch button drives you crazy - random presses are constant, it’s difficult to press on purpose. 3. The tip is very hard, which is why it takes a long time to get used to measuring the pressing force. 4. The tip is thick and as if sharpened by a sharpener. 5. Even though it is heavy, it is thin and simply not comfortable to hold. Overall I'm very disappointed with the apple pencil reviews because it's clearly not a product that costs $100.@@cmml22
What are you talking about? It’s great! The charging sucks, but for all the proper drawing tests, like slow diagonal lines, pressure curve tapering. It’s all good! I use a Cintiq pro for work, an iPad Pro for personal projects, a remarkable 2 for brainstorming and the surface pro 8 for other personal projects that involve TVpaint. And honestly between the Wacom pens, surface slim pen 2, Apple Pencil, the difference is basically subjective. The USI, old MPP and Wacom AER (battery powered pens) are the ones you want to steer clear from. Of the flagship pens, anyone with a strong view is just a silly fanboy giving free publicity to a conglomerate
What difference does it make how he passes the tests if he is not comfortable drawing? Not because of technical imperfection, but because of ill-conceived design specifically for drawing. Even the budget Huion Kamwas 20 has a much more convenient stylus.@@sloppynyuszi
Would you say that Android tablets are better than or just as good as iPad? My drawing tablet too old now and I'm not sure if I should like save my money for like the new iPads or just get an Android. This one looks good, but iPad looks really good too but it's really expensive but it's pretty powerful as well. Just don't know what I should go with.
I'd advise find which stylus technology gives you the most natural feeling focused on your hand/eye coordination. This is something personal that I rarely see in discussions about tablets for artists. In my personal case, I find the ipad gives me a more artifical feeling, meaning that my strokes don't feel natural and I don't like that. On the other hand, Wacom's cintiq pens and Samsung's S Pen feel more organic since my strokes glide gracefully across the screen. I'm sure this Xppen is going to be a good one, probably getting one to try that stylus as well.
@@davsdf1 yeah, I'll probably get a cheaper iPad to just to see how it feels because I've never bought an iPad. I have no idea how it feels. I only hear that artists really like how it feels. The only drawing tablet I've had was a Samsung. I have a pen display besides that from Huion and it's really good but I just need like a separate smaller device that I can draw on in combination with my pen display. The Samsung looks really good too that s9 versions. I'll also watch a lot of reviews when the new iPads come out to see what artists think.
@@williammclean6594imho. Samsung tablet is really good. Their stylus is really good for me. You can get tab s8 to test and it should give you an idea of how it performs. It should also be good for few years
If you have a windows pc, android has better connectivity than apple ios. also apple pencil is separate purchase. If this tablet did not exist, I say go for the ipad. But from what this video shows, this is a better buy.

This would be a separate device and I've heard that Apple has way better apps, especially for illustrators in graphic designers that are way more optimized on just using this to like sketch when I'm on the go or for like another screen while I'm looking at my PC and taking notes and things like that. I also want a really powerful device in the new iPads are going to be really powerful. You could even use the new iPads as a laptop alternative. It's only negative is with iPad. Once you buy the apple pencil plus the keyboard plus the most powerful version, it's going to be like 3500 dollars. Because you know I live in canada and once he convert it to US currency it's about 3,500 Canadian.

I was looking at a huion tablet review and they said it was super laggy and cheap feeling, also the lines would cut off even if you had a fair amount of pressure on it, the review was by Brad Colbow and its the review that was posted before he posted the xp pen magic pad 😁 also I may not make sense 😅😅

The s pen is included with all Samsung galaxy tab products, even most if not all the FE versions.
It is clear that you demonstrate that the brush does not make the artist, you will always achieve wonderful drawings with any tool.

Im saving up for this. Its like drawing on paper with pencil. Heck yeah i started playing with Ibispaint on my phone just doing shapes.

Yes…as long as the pencil you get supports pressure. They sell pencils now that do and do not have pressure.

iPad Pro 12.9: 128gb-512gb has 8gb of RAM, 1tb and 2tb have 16gb of RAM.
I just wish all the pro models had 16gb of ram. I have the m2 12.9 pro with 512 storage. Good to know the specs.

The galaxy s tablets come with the s pens. It's not a sperate purchase. The Tab A series no longer has s pen compatability. This retails for like 500 usd? If it does its competition is Samsung and Lenovo at that price point. Top of the line Lenovo is 300 to 400 usd for 8 core apu and 8gb ram with 128 gb storage. Samsung is around 500 to 600 starting for the bottom of the line 12 in Tan S series usually. They have gone up in price though.
Yea…I just looked over the Samsung line up. This tablet is priced to the lower end of the 12.4 tablets. I own a S6 lite and it is great. With the XPpen unit one is getting great pen tech and similar performance at a slightly lower price point. Every tablet has its strengths and challenges. So far…my XPPen unit is superior to my Samsung. Albeit I have not used the latest 12-14” Galaxy tab s9. At the end of the day…XPPen’s first stab at the tablet market has been great for me. I continue to push it and look forward to updates. The reality is that we as users continue to get better and better tech every year! Thank you for the comment! Back to drawing!!!

Sorry if I came across as boujey. 😆 I enjoy your channel cause you take a deep dive into products and haven't abandoned the art industry for youtube. It will compete with the Samsung full feature series not the F7 which is the "affordable" model. Closer to the price of this XP Pen for less ram and storage. Still a good deal. The Lenovo is less and has better features for techies not for artist. Good video, nice cartoon bunny.

I've seen some complaints that you can't calibrate the cursor on this, so because it's alinged centrally it appears offset if the pen is held at an angle. Did you (or anyone else here) find that an issue?
Yes…currently it is aligned to the tip of the pen at 90 degrees. At a natural drawing angle in my hand…the cursor is offset slightly. No adjustment currently. However, they are working on updating so one can calibrate and adjust the cursor offset. If you are working in Clip Studio paint…you can adjust the cursor offset in preferences. I had mentioned the offset issue in the testing phase and the return comment was that calibrating the cursor at the tip at 90 degrees helps facilitate left and right hand users. That being said…XPPen has heard the people and are working on a way to adjust. That is huge. I have Apple, Samsung tablets and they do not allow for adjustments system wide. XPPen will issue updates soon to allow for the user adjustment(I am not sure when). Thanks for the comment.

Pen tip calibration is pretty far off on this one.. hopefully they've fixed it by now. I'm definitely considering this one, even though I'd have to learn new software. I've used procreate for years. CSP I guess.
They won't be fixing it. Xppen has stated it won't be getting any updates.

Hello. Some reviews reported that the cursor is off by a few pixels. Is it true?
They released a driver update that allows the user to adjust the curser to top alignment. All fixed. It was not terrible to begin with…but driver update has fixed any issues.

Probably not. The s pen seems to be pretty standard.

Very interesting tablet. Is there any tool's preview on android system comparable as pencil hover on apple ipad m2 ?
Mmm…it activates very similar to their desktop display tablets with similar tech. I own a M2 iPad Pro 12.9 as well as a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9. The hover feature is nice…but the IPad and pencil are almost 3 times what this costs at a similar storage configuration. The Magic pad is so good at drawing. I had a blast using it and continue to choose it over my other tablets. For me…investment vs return…the Magic pad is a clear winner!
Thank you for your answer. I usually use an xp pen artist pro or wacom one as secondary display with a mac and use photoshop or krita to do digital painting. Tool's preview and even tilt are essentials features for me. It is hard to imagine how I could be really accurate without tool's preview.
@@LionelChardine so I just did a hover test in clip studio and in sketchbook pro. The preview of the brush I have selected is active the same as on my desktop. I hope that answers your question.

Companies with a long history are good, but companies specializing in one thing are even better. Apple is a well-known brand, but their pencil, let's be honest, is far from an ideal drawing tool. No matter how good the iPad is, it is devalued by the fact that the pencil is bad.

It is expensive and not convenient. This is a thing that was made for the sake of design, and not for the sake of convenience. In short:
1. It is heavy along its entire length, which makes the top heavier than the feather.
2. The touch button drives you crazy - random presses are constant, it’s difficult to press on purpose.
3. The tip is very hard, which is why it takes a long time to get used to measuring the pressing force.
4. The tip is thick and as if sharpened by a sharpener.
5. Even though it is heavy, it is thin and simply not comfortable to hold.
Overall I'm very disappointed with the apple pencil reviews because it's clearly not a product that costs $100.@@cmml22
What are you talking about? It’s great! The charging sucks, but for all the proper drawing tests, like slow diagonal lines, pressure curve tapering. It’s all good!
I use a Cintiq pro for work, an iPad Pro for personal projects, a remarkable 2 for brainstorming and the surface pro 8 for other personal projects that involve TVpaint. And honestly between the Wacom pens, surface slim pen 2, Apple Pencil, the difference is basically subjective.
The USI, old MPP and Wacom AER (battery powered pens) are the ones you want to steer clear from.
Of the flagship pens, anyone with a strong view is just a silly fanboy giving free publicity to a conglomerate
What difference does it make how he passes the tests if he is not comfortable drawing? Not because of technical imperfection, but because of ill-conceived design specifically for drawing. Even the budget Huion Kamwas 20 has a much more convenient stylus.@@sloppynyuszi
A stylus that has to be charged to use is a stylus that I automatically ignore.

Would you say that Android tablets are better than or just as good as iPad? My drawing tablet too old now and I'm not sure if I should like save my money for like the new iPads or just get an Android. This one looks good, but iPad looks really good too but it's really expensive but it's pretty powerful as well. Just don't know what I should go with.
I'd advise find which stylus technology gives you the most natural feeling focused on your hand/eye coordination. This is something personal that I rarely see in discussions about tablets for artists. In my personal case, I find the ipad gives me a more artifical feeling, meaning that my strokes don't feel natural and I don't like that. On the other hand, Wacom's cintiq pens and Samsung's S Pen feel more organic since my strokes glide gracefully across the screen. I'm sure this Xppen is going to be a good one, probably getting one to try that stylus as well.
@@davsdf1 yeah, I'll probably get a cheaper iPad to just to see how it feels because I've never bought an iPad. I have no idea how it feels. I only hear that artists really like how it feels. The only drawing tablet I've had was a Samsung. I have a pen display besides that from Huion and it's really good but I just need like a separate smaller device that I can draw on in combination with my pen display. The Samsung looks really good too that s9 versions. I'll also watch a lot of reviews when the new iPads come out to see what artists think.
@@williammclean6594imho. Samsung tablet is really good. Their stylus is really good for me. You can get tab s8 to test and it should give you an idea of how it performs. It should also be good for few years
If you have a windows pc, android has better connectivity than apple ios. also apple pencil is separate purchase. If this tablet did not exist, I say go for the ipad. But from what this video shows, this is a better buy.

This would be a separate device and I've heard that Apple has way better apps, especially for illustrators in graphic designers that are way more optimized on just using this to like sketch when I'm on the go or for like another screen while I'm looking at my PC and taking notes and things like that. I also want a really powerful device in the new iPads are going to be really powerful. You could even use the new iPads as a laptop alternative. It's only negative is with iPad. Once you buy the apple pencil plus the keyboard plus the most powerful version, it's going to be like 3500 dollars. Because you know I live in canada and once he convert it to US currency it's about 3,500 Canadian.

Looks like this tablet just got an update from XP Pen. Give adjustment for the offset. Fixed the issue. Now it is an even better user experience.

You get the pen free with the samsung tablets,
Two big flaws with this, especially considering it's touted specifically as a drawing tablet--no pen tilt and no sort of built in stand/legs.
So basically it compete with the new samsung Tab A9 Plus 😅

@@clem7334not exactly. Lots of companies buy off the shelf units, rebrand them, and make changes with their own software. The issue here, is they have Said they won't be updating it after launch.
I was looking at a huion tablet review and they said it was super laggy and cheap feeling, also the lines would cut off even if you had a fair amount of pressure on it, the review was by Brad Colbow and its the review that was posted before he posted the xp pen magic pad 😁 also I may not make sense 😅😅
