    just listened to this on podcast app. so helpful. i am one to keep things tidy; go through mail each day and handle recycle, put anything financial in a designated folder each day; etc. my downfall is putting exercise other than walks in to after chores done. habit from my mom - learning this is part of solution.
    i started listening to get more ideas and tips. but i also started listening because friend here thinks i am way to particular - yet he can't find things, piles of paper on console table, drops and runs when opening up a package, etc. so far, i can't get him interested in listening.

    Luv the quote about our habits chose our future....another one to add ( do not remember original source)... Plan/ goal without action is just a dream. Thanks for your inspiration; Happy New Year.

    I too am a Minimalist Home Lite person.
    As encouragement to those who are beginning minimalism, just start. Minimalism is a process not a one-time action.

    I’m with you on the Alzheimer’s fear. My grandfather on both sides of my family and my daddy’s brother is showing signs. I play “brain games” sometimes and walk. You’re always so encouraging ❣️. Thank you

      Be sure to do some research on Alzheimer's and the sugar/carbohydrate link. Many doctors are now calling Alzheimer's "type 3 Diabetes".

    Hi I love your podcasts. I have been wanting to be organized my whole life. You are so real I think anyone can become a minimalist lite. I want to help especially my family members become at least a little bit minimalist. i am 64 and my parents did not throw anything away being we may need it someday. So my mom is 88 and boy what a project. Luckily they live in the country so there is plenty of room outside for storage. I think we can work on habits and changing how it makes us feel. Every time I decluttered their home it was only a week til it was ugly again. Well maybe 2 weeks. The journey has begun. I listen to at least 4 different minimalist talk over the past year and I think you are so real and make it seem like anyone can be minimalist light. Thank you

    This year I have wanted to declutter my apartment that I have live in since 2006. I started a journal that is my decluttering journal. I would make a list of things that I took to Goodwill and items that I trashed, so I have a record of things that left my house. I also would journal about why things would be hard to toss and it would help with getting rid of the item.

    Thank you for having a great format! first off your voice and diction are soothing , informative and just fab! but what I love is not only the information is right on and I thinks covers so many people and targets and zones in to our experiences and how we get to the point we get but that you show yourself doing , your not just a talking head ( there is a place and time for that but it gets old fast ) so thank you for doing a great job , BE BLESSED ALWAYS AND IN 2024 YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND ALL HERE LISTENING TO YOU!

    I tried to zone clean and organise rooms. Now daily reset and decluttering makes cleaning 15 mins per room. Have one room left of clutter so inside out will hopefully get me to a peaceful home. ❤🇬🇧❤

    Decluttering, although I am only a few months in, is working for me in all aspects of my life. I feel so good about how much easier things are. Also, I really like your connecting building good habits to decluttering and organizing. I’ve usually connected habits to “planning,” but in the past year or so - planning has not worked. I believe if I adjust my thinking - building good habits - declutter - organize… it will be more affective to start adding in a few other good Heath and wellness habits. Thank you. For me I have to accept it mentally and I think this will help.

    I am a wanna-be Xtremely lite minimalist... Some what newbie here. ☺️
    But I was encouraged when You told about the mail piles... I have those.. had those 😎
    Still have some old ones but look forward to 15 mins a day on those!!
    A yr ago or so I said no more so I began to do what You said... deal with it all immediately!
    Call the places & tell them no more! But they don't stop!!😡
    Anyway, all that to say it gave me hope to hear that I have already begun a long, scary, difficult journey toward less mess!! HALLELUJAH!
    I am a paid member & look forward to much more progress over time!!
    EXCITING! Big Thank You & praying More blessings over You & Yours!

    Great tip to anchor a habbit! I will try that. I can see how that would work. I've been trying to have healthy habbits since my teens and all of the sudden I'm about to turn 50 with teenagers. I feel and look great for my age. Everyone thinks im not yet 40. Although I do have other habbits I'd like to start. Decluttering is one, more cooking, positive thinking, I'm definitely not perfect either.

    I am 57 not feeling g the best and this month I found your channel while decluttering and I’m on my second box of contractor bags I’ve been storing crap will not literal in my storage room because I didn’t want to get rid of it but I’m just getting rid of everything that I don’t love that I haven’t used that. I haven’t touched that. I know my kids aren’t gonna wantso I could get rid of everything so they don’t have to just they just pick the furniture they want and get rid of the rest then I’ll be happy and they won’t have to go through all the junk although I am leaving their stuff lol 😂

    I think I have decluttered as far as I can go at the moment. The op shops are closed so I can’t get the boxes out the door. I have a few more things out for decorations but as soon as I sell my house they will also go donate because I’m moving into a motor home so furniture goes to my son and a few things to my daughter

    I'm curious how many bins of christmas stuff you have?
    I'm surprised by you decor. Does the typewriter have a story or do you just like it?

    Someone please support me in this, my mom is in a nursing home, apparently, their are strangers who get together and buy a bunch of stuff for people like her. That's great, but my mom received this giant scarf,not something to keep her warm, but very thin,just for looks. She has never worn a scarf, she wouldn't be able to use it, physically she would never put it on. She has always had an inability to let go of anything. So I said, mom, you don't wear scarves, how about you let someone who does wear them have it? She just looked at me and said nothing. I found it in one of her few drawers yesterday, nobody had written her name on it magic marker yet,so I put in a bag and brought it home so I can donate it. She will never ask for this scarf, she won't even remember it. My husband thought I was a horrible person for this. He didn't say so, but the look on his face said so. What say you?

    • @pinkrosessheila
      @pinkrosessheila ปีที่แล้ว +9

      This is a hard one. I know nursing homes don't have a lot of space for stuff, especially excess stuff, in each resident's room. You know your mom best.
      There will *always* be someone, sometimes someone very close to you, who will loudly disagree with your choices. Believe in yourself to make decisions that feel right to you.
      The deed is already done. If your mom won't remember the scarf anyway, I'd say no harm done.

    • @soapylulu
      @soapylulu ปีที่แล้ว +7

      One thing your mom is experiencing is a series of losses as she is going through her life. We all do. She is now experiencing a loss of autonomy by living in a nursing home, my mom did too. I would not worry about the small stuff like a large scarf and let her make some decisions EVEN if she's not going to remember it. If her drawers become too full (because space is a premium) then revisit the matter later.

      @rebeccad8688 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Keep it for a bit. If anyone asks, say you wanted to wash it. 😅
      A side note: You are not a horrible person. You are a daughter who has started to mother and take care with your own mom.
      I do think it could have just stayed in her drawer a little longer. Then just say,
      "Hey mom, Do you want this? I never see you wear it" I worked with people with mental and physical disabilities , including dementia care for over 2 decades and I learned that in the moment they want the gift, 🎁 but later they won't really care as much most of the time.
