Tyler Bryant invited PG to his Nashville studio where he and Graham Whitford shared some stories, jammed, and talked about the gear they use on their never-ending tour.
Bryant’s No. 1 is this sunburst 1960 Fender Strat. This Strat is strung with coated Ernie Ball .010-.052 strings and stays in Eb. Bryant has put some serious miles on this vintage guitar, but of late has been leaving it home. Bryant plays with Dunlop 1.0 mm Tortex picks.
Whitford tours with this 1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior. This guitar, like all of Whitford’s, is strung with D’Addario NYXL .010-.052 strings and is tuned down to Eb. Whitford also uses Dunlop Tortex 1 mm picks.

One of the most talented new acts to hit the scene in a long time....good job PG for this! It's good musicianship isn't dead.....that means PG is proving that Rock N' Roll is not dead!!!
I love John's rundowns. He doesn't become over effusive or ass kissy. He just listens to the guy he's interviewing and when he needs to open a can of knowledge he has them in spades... Cool guy man.
I remember when he was horrible and super awkward. He definitely turned a corner. He's my favorite now.
Yup. By far the best interviewer on PM.
@@deezee8508 totally agree.
Derek Zurovetz m
agreed ... he's very good at what he does . totally natural .. I'm a JB fan.
Tyler is such a nice kid. I'm happy he's a really good player and not all strung out and weird.
Yeah it’s great to see a lot of the young musicians not getting into drugs or heavy alcohol abuse like almost every player did back in the , 50’s 60’s 70’s and 80’s....and 90’s... shit it was almost every decade. Whether it was the jazz players with heroin or blues or rock players with every other drug ever created....it was thought of some kind of pre-requisite to becoming a next level player who played with soul and feel from actually having the real life blues or using psychedelics to be creative. It’s not the right way. If they all just stayed sober they would of all played better and at the least lasted a lot longer. Mike Bloomfield, all that talent, came from a rich family yet was a heroin addict and died from his addiction. It always bothered me and I just think back then before smart phones, the internet, social media... people really didn’t have much to distract them or focus their restless energy on. I’m sure Jimi taking acid made him play like an alien at times but he didn’t need it. I’ve been down that road and I think people are a lot smarter now and realize drugs and excessive drinking cause nothing but problems and and early death. When Stevie Ray for sober, he always talked about staying away from it and never glamorized it.

Who’s Mike Bloomfield?
SRV played his best after getting clean and sober. I was blessed to see him a few months before his untimely demise (assassination or accident?). It was a traveling blues festival, with BB King (awesome performance) and other assorted musicians, at the Costa Mesa Amphitheater. SRV was the headliner, and he played most of his "In Step" recording. As the sun went down, SRV did an encore, sitting on a stool alone with "Lenny" (the stratocaster he played that song on), playing "Riviera Paradise". It still gives me chills thinking about it. Drugs and alcohol held SRV back, if anything, and he soared ever higher without them.
I saw an interview where T.B. tells a story about B.B. King grabbing him by the hands and making him promise not to use drugs. He speaks with awe of the feeling of Kings hands and all the music that had come through them. I guess when you make a promise to B.B. King you need to keep it!
One thing you have to love about Tyler Bryant is that with all he's done he seems to have no ego and no attitude, and he never forgets the great players that came before him.
@@jordandangelo180 Drugs and early death are part of the blues big dawg lol
I've got to admit how stunned I am that there is this guy in rock that's somewhat successful complete with a $20.000. Guitar opening for Dwight Yokem at 14 and no one I know has ever heard of him or his band. It would seem that rock music is living somewhere whether I'm aware or not. Good on ya.
It lives where country used to live - Nashville
@@davecarsley8773 so true. Hell, even Rex from Pantera moved there a couple of years ago.
Some unknown person responds to this 3 years later: I just know this guy since two days. I was looking for old blues resonator guitar. Got this guy as a recommendation, playing slide blues guitar. I was stunned. This guy must be a reincarnation of some old black blues player from the 30's.
Saw Tyler doing a Fender product demo here on TY a year or so ago and was blown away.
Guy has great tone, great feel and plays really musically. Its so refreshing to see young players not just ripping of EJ/SRV.
Hardly original though, it's a piece of piss to play that stuff
@@classicartfoundation639 hahaha ok 🙂👍🏻
That was definitly one of the best rig rundowns.
Tyler is great, met him last night such a nice guy, great with his fans
Such a cool guy, great player and clearly someone very stoked to get his own rig rundown. Congrats dude!
Saw them open up for Blackberry Smoke in Raleigh NC. They were really good and my nephew met Tyler after their set while he was buying one of their CDs. My nephew had on an AC/DC shirt and Tyler was talking to him about touring with them. Great guy and awesome band and I bought a shirt at the show like the one at 38:16 LOL
I love these Rig Rundowns. It always baffles me to see "thumbs down" clicks...like, do you hate the player or the video or the host or are you just jealous that this kid kicked your ass up and down the fretboard when he was 13?
Steve Secor it’s the host! I would bet my house on it.
So glad these guys are getting some attention and finally giving us an official rig rundown. #shakedownrundown #turnitupto11
Fantastic rig rundown . . . so nice that the guys are willing to play, one of the best I've watched.
This kid is cool, I love this show.
I have watched SO many rig rundowns on the Premier Guitar's channel & this by far is the GREATEST & COOLEST of them all !!!!
One of the best episodes. I liked it very much. This kid is awesome.
I met Tyler at their show in Pittsburgh banck in 2016 and he was very gracious... the show was killer too! :)
Graham Whittford playing guitar is just so good to my ears.
Such a nice down to earth kid good to see his not all drugged up
I don’t really listen to recent bands but I have to say this dude is really talented and his band kicks ass !!
Revisted this one. Amazing musician and his heart for the guitar is inspiring. Freaking beast.
never heard of them until this Rig rundown maybe because I live in Israel but now I hooked on this band. the best rock blues band I've heard years ... I'm in love.
Thanks.
אחי הם פתחו לגאנז ב2017
I knew this kid when he very first came out of the garage. He had some great guidance over the years...
And he seems to have actually listened to it, which many people don't!
Tyler seems to be an all around guy who's talented beyond belief. A rare combination. This video was great.
This kid is awesome. That guitar lair is epic
Man, Tyler kicks ass. Congrats to you and Rebecca too.
Never heard of these fellas, but cool RR. Was nice to hear the one kid not shy away about who his dad was.
You know you're into it, when your slide "fly" off your finger and hit somebodys head... 🤣
What a great, nice person. I guess I just found a new favorite guitar player.
One of my fav rig rundown episodes
Tyler is so cool. John was really vibing with him in this one
Ya Halfway through and came to say the same thing. Would love to have a conversation with him.
Great rundown. I am glad River City Guitars found, bought, and returned your guitar to you. I remember when y’all got your equipment stolen and put an article out about it, I have looked for that pink strat to show up on Ebay for years. Congratulations and thanks to River City Guitars, I subscribed to your TH-cam channel and watch all your videos. Thanks.
I met Tyler when he was 12 years old at C&C Guitar Shop in Paris Texas. He was a great player then. I think that's where his 1960 strat can from. Glad he's doing well. I was so worried he'd get string out but it looks like he's doing great.
Two talented, smart & kewl young dudes forsure
This kid is a great player for sure. It’s cool to see kids that carry the flag of bluesrock and country.
Man this was great, these guys sound sweet, and i love it how one plays LP's and the other one Strats
Whewie, dude! What fun. So cool! I am a fan!
Awesome Rig Rundown, these guys can really tear it up and are very knowledgeable. Good job PG!
Love these guys. Tone and chops for days. And, oh, Juniors are such underrated guitars.
Nice one John. Tyler seems a great enthusiastic guy. Lovely tone and dynamic style too.
Such a gifted young guitarist and great interviewer .. refreshing
Great to see you back John. Really great rundown. Never heard Tyler before this.
My favorite episode ever!!
47:40 whaaaa, you go an have bite and still be hearing that one . . . . tylers awesome on that reso (and his other guitars)
Love that he's wearing Rebecca's boots - rock on Tyler!!
He is Rebecca !
They could be his.....you never know
Great left hand vibrato and feeling ! He’s cool !
I've never heard of this guy. He seems chill though, has some cool gear too.
Gonna have to check him out.
Man Tyler has the best sounds ! I can listen to him rip on any guitar ... oh yea! ❤️🙏🏼🇨🇦
Saw these guys in Vegas opening for Rival Sons at Hard Rock. Great show these guys were killer. This was back in 2011 maybe. My band had headlined the Whiskey in L.A then we had a show in Vegas had a day off went to this show we were all Rival fans but these guys kicked ass.
I love John's rundowns.
People don’t like Tele neck pickups, they always talk about the bridge. But man, I like them a lot. The Strat with the Tele neck pickup plus the humbucker, that’s pretty damn cool and sounds great.
the 1HR rig rundown! haha, just awesome!
How did I not know about this???? Finally this happened.
Never heard of this kid, but I like him!
Cool story about that Marshall. I was on tour with Whitford st. Holmes and Brad was using that amp. He told me when he came across it he had never seen one before. Then one day while on tour he went to a guitar center and there was another one. So of course he bought it. Haha. Great amp!!!
Tyler’s got some serious chops. Great Rundown!
Recently saw Fender video on this dude's pinky strat and never heard of him before but he some rad so best of luck to him!
Poor John couldn't stand up straight in there......was this filmed in the shire?
Lmao!!!
That is what I was thinking. It looks like those are 7' ceilings. Being anything over 6ft and being in 7ft ceilings it in claustrophobic as hell. Coming from 6'4", add some shoes, it adds up quick.
Lol. Looks like a cozy man cave to me. I can live there for weeks.
specially when you throw in cabs and heads and all sorts of gear round em
to be more specific it was filmed at Bag End
Seems like a genuinely nice kid. Would love to hear him in 5 or 6 years after he gets outta that shreddy stage.
John is an awesome interviewer, Love his rundowns as he really lets & inspires the muso to open up and discuss his/her gear. Keep em coming with greetings from Crete, Greece
These guys and their golden tone... Killer!
I discovered Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown 3 years ago and i said to myself "i HAVE to see these guys live!!!" and as time went on, Guns N´Roses announced their reunion tour, and i thought, this is probably never gonna happen again. (It probably will) and they were also coming to Norway. So I bought the tickets to the show. Some time later, Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown was announced as support! And i have to say, musically, i was more impressed with them, than i was with Guns. Such a cool liveband, and such a good sound. And Tyler is such a cool guy.
This video is the first I’ve ever heard of this dude. Wow, I’m a serious guitar player and never seen him. Ashamed 😂
Love the Junior! I have 4 of them from the 50's.
Killer tones from Graham.
The best rig rundown ever!!!!!!!!!!!
This guy conducts the best interviews. Can you start asking about their preference on fret wire size?
And ShakeDown is great! Monster sound!!!
John is really the only host I tend to watch on rig rundown, he’s great.
Man, everyone and their kid is getting a signature Fender these days. Maybe, I should get in touch with Fender.
Great licks and vibe!! Remember them from normans rare guits.
These guys have killer tone!
Whitford is wearing a Blackberry Smoke shirt…gotta love it. They are the best band out.
Awesome rig! Nice dude as well. John is good he always has the right questions 👌🏼
Man, "the judge" should be renamed to "jekyll and hyde". You know what I mean. That pickup combo is wild, and seems so fun.
Brilliant thank you
When you can't describe the tone of your like and you say:
"You know? Is just like *starts jamming*
it’s just relatable
Love the National resonator with the Hotplate pickup system. Great design by Mike Dowling. Sounds awesome.
The 71' Custom seems like a great guitar !
Vintage 30's in those cabs.
Loving that tone!
finally some love for strats
Haikal Hanafiah I think there’s enough love for strats out there
The Blackberry Smoke tee shirt just got TB&tS a new paying fan. Love these RR's.
Sucks to hear the gear got stolen. I heard him and his band when they came through with Jeff Beck. Fantastic show.
Killer player 🤘🏻
Good stuff.
Great rig rundown Dr. B.
that's great myaan
That was Fun!!
Really like my Wizz pickups. Sound great!
Graham whitford’s guitar center king of the blues audition really inspired me when I was a kid. If any of you haven’t seen it, check it out. That’s where you can see him “cut his teeth” on strats.
Finally!!! One of my favourite bands in the last 5 years
Thank You!!!
Excellent rig rundown. John is so good at these and he is a shredder himself. I've seen many but this is one of the best! Love Tyler Bryant and the shakedown also!!
I waited for this day
I wasn't the biggest fan of this guy for a long time. Probably jealousy as I don't have really any reason..this interview has changed my mind 1000 percent. I love that he just snaked that resonator...sounds like something I would do.
Great tones and great guitars... but the real question is where can I get Tyler's boots? :)
Jeffrey West
Jack Narcotta anywhere in Texas
That sounds like an Inspector Clouseau question.
From the 80's.
Proabably craigslist
I love the thumbnail. John Bollinger's one stance.
Scotty Bratcher needs a rig rundown!!!
He's a beast of a guitarist, but a super nice guy. I've seen him 3 or 4 times and he just blew me away every time.
I have followed Tyler since he had a myspace page with his version of “big legged woman” as one of his songs. He was quite young then. Have to say that I didn’t really care for the direction he took with his music and song writing. He is such a tasteful and soulful player and I don’t think the teen rock stuff does his playing justice. He does have tremendous energy and presence that will carry him further in his career. I wish he would branch out from the Shakedown and do somthing different.
Yup! His guitar playing is epic! Could listen all day !
How beautiful is that pink strat!?
Brad Whitford is one of my favorite rock guitarists. He doesn't get any attention either but I'm sure he is fine with the paycheck.
what all this with parents giving CS strat's and les pauls and klon's as gifts! i get socks and under wear?
haha well his dad is in aerosmith
@@iwillnevergetone5 That was Graham I think, not Tyler.
I got a nice warm pair of socks.
My parents, who btw are not rich, bought me a gibson sg one year after I started playing guit.
Honestly his gear is not that crazy, even tho his dad is in Aerosmith, I'd expect a collection like Slash's
