This song is amazing. it existed before the internet, they predicted that people talking and connecting online would become a reality. What's even more crazy, they predicted that relationships could exist online. Phil Oakley is a psychic god.
I was a young boy about to fly on my own when this song and movie hit the arrives. What hope there was in the air, the future seemed boundless and all embracing.
God this makes me want to cry. I remember traveling as a kid. To cities like New York. The excitement of driving into a new city. And there was absolutely no doubt that this was the greatest country in the world. Now, as an adult, I just don't know....things aren't the same.
It was a nice time to be a teenager in England too. If we were 50 years old back then it would all probably have looked and felt completely different. I think a lot of the truths about life and society come with age and experience.
@@brittania1974 That is true to a certain extent. But every generation was linked to the generation before throughout history. There were things that the older folks were grumpy about, as alwayd, but there was always a mutual respect. Even if was a very small amount. That chain has been broken. The current generation has sense of attachment to their past. No respect for it, no pride, hell they say out loud that they hate their own culture and want it destroyed. What is happening now is different and you can feel it in the air...even if you cant quite fully explain it.
@@velveetaslingshot I know the very feeling you are talking about. It's the emtiness, I feel it everytime I go out in public to do errands etc. It's a horrible feeling of aloneness and doom.
I remember the 80's so well. We all danced in random places and were filled wth a sense of optimism and belief that the world was going to be just fine as long as the kids danced in stores and wore bright clothing. We saved the world, our generation.
This song evokes intense nostalgia to me. Even when I was a small kid, it did that. The digital realm creates a wonderful path crossing any distance and even any language between people. You can take a peek at anywhere in the world without having to leave your house....but it still can't break the divide between the living and dead. That's what this song always reminds me of.
I loved this song for ages, then I went off it. Next minute I heard the advert I was straight back onto TH-cam searching for the song again this brought me back memories. Thumbs up if you did this.
I watched this, 'cause damn man. My dad keeps playing old school songs at the house with his magnum on high when I was a kid. LOL, now I'm completely attracted to old school songs.
Because of my comment, I have been watching this video everyday for the last two weeks and never get tired of it. The eighties was fantastic for me. I spent my teenage years there. Even though there was the "cold war", it seemed that people were happier than today. They were more optimistic about the future. I'm not sure, maybe it's just what I think. Does anyone agree with that? O wonder if someday we will live in a truly great time and stay there for good. I hope so...
I was 14 when Electric Dreams came out and I loved it and Heart radio played it yesterday. Don't you just love them moments when memories are ignited :-) xxx
This song makes me feel very emotional. It makes me remember my first and only true love. If only life could have been kinder to us. Kelly, we'll always be together, however far it seems. Together in electric dreams.
I loved this film. I went to it with my girlfriend, now already many years my wife. This was a time computers were mythical things and whizzkids were a sort of magicians. It's a very positive film, forgotten but not lost. Great music from the Human League.
This is such a cool tune! yeah the 80's were really great times to be around..now? The music,films,t.v. seemed to be a lot better than today? i miss the 80'.s
Hadn't heard this song for years and then a gorgeous and cute little orange character brought back to me how good it was! (now all I need is my own little character! lol!)
Found it from the advert and it's a brilliant song. I've decided if I get married to my boyfriend we shall have this as our first dance and we can dance like gleeful idiots just like we did when we first saw the advert. This song suits us also lyrically, with him being so far away and us being strong friends beforehand.
I love the old movies, I have this on DVD, cost me $80 since its not easy to find and the only dvd worth every cent... These old movies are awesome, don't get me wrong I love Die Hard and Transformers etc but something about these older movies that will always be awesome, you can't make movies like this anymore with back in the old day scenes and cool music and even great story lines and other greats like plains, trains and autombiles and Tom Hanks 'Big' etc, those were the days.
I want to be that boy again that came home dirty and/or with a bleeding knee after an afternoon of freetime in these great years. I'm only 38 but as the old ones I remember those days better than I do remember what I ate yesterday. It was magic! We ate painted candy and not a single healt regulation against that. Thanks to internet we can fly back to the magical years of our youth.
Thanks for posting this. A brilliant song and one which has stuck in my head since first hearing it at the time of its original release. (BTW. Due to the EDF commercial, this has some potential to re-enter the UK top 40, after all these years. Great, eh?)

If you think that was psychic, you should watch the movie Electric Dreams, this song used as the theme for the movie.
My Joey passed away in 2007 from cancer & this song united yet divided us. RIP Sweet Girl, We'll always remember.

I was a young boy about to fly on my own when this song and movie hit the arrives. What hope there was in the air, the future seemed boundless and all embracing.

The future is ours! Sunnydale class of 1999.
In the next age, things truly will be boundless.
I really feel for the younger ones who never got to experience the 80's. This song just brings it all back for me.
This song brought a tear to my eye, it was played at one of my close friends funerals. I can just see the curtains closing on her coffin.
Phil Oakley really does have a fantastic voice. This will always be a classic.
God this makes me want to cry. I remember traveling as a kid. To cities like New York. The excitement of driving into a new city. And there was absolutely no doubt that this was the greatest country in the world. Now, as an adult, I just don't know....things aren't the same.
But this song can evoke powerful reaction and emotion, yes?
