Met Julian briefly at reefapalooza in Anaheim. Listened to him discuss species and variation with Steve from Garrett’s acropolis. That was a treat to say least 🎉
Amazing pond and a fun project system. Seems to me, if it was in a covered patio situation it would be more protected from rain and cold. With a properly placed skylight the sun would still get in too. Maybe use a light tube over it. Lots of potential! I tried to go to this talk but was busy and unable to attend. So grateful to see it now.
This was very inspiring, loved the talk. How cool would it be to have a large shallow lagoon tank that gets topped up with RO water by some sort of sprinkler system...
@@Richs_reef oh! I understood that part, because the pond over fills and some of the salt washes out and is lost. I thought he was saying that it was also diluted over time by some other means.
@@AlsFishBarnyes it’s edited at that point which makes it hard to follow as I think he walked away from the mic again 😂 but in a separate video I saw of him talking about his pond the reason he adds salt is because of excess rain. He said in the other video that although the rainwater floats and overflows out of the sump it does take a bit of salt with it. Over time with multiple downpours the salinity drifts and so he adds salt as a concentrated brine back into the pond roughly every month I believe.
I fell in love with that pond the first time I saw it in a post!
Great talk as always!
Great talk. Definitely enjoyed hearing about his pond. 👌🏻💯✌🏻

I'm the biggest fan of SW ponds, and reef ponds.
All the walking away from the mic is killing me. Someone get this man a laser!!! 😅
Been trying to setup a small lagoon for tridacna clams for a few years but Clams have been so finicky these days.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I didn’t quite understand why his salinity drifts down, can someone explain that to me? Please
Rainwater is freshwater and so when it rains on his pond it dilutes the salinity of the water

Ya at 15:48 is he talking about rain or something else?

@@Richs_reef oh haha ya that edit did make it confusing! Thanks for taking the time to share. Happy reefing!
