    U R so brave. I kno a lady who sew such beautiful clothes, yet, one client yelled her down so badly for not being happy with the outcome of the garment. That’s what I’m most apprehensive about. You will always get one bad apple.

      We get customers who are absolutely amazing. But every now and again, there would be a difficult one. It happens and it’s part of doing business.
      With more experience, we learn to deal with such situations and find solutions where possible.

    This was so insightful! Thank you. I do have a couple of questions tho
    1. For an online made to order business, is it advisable to create a size chart or ask the customers to take their own measurements and send it over?
    2. When there are a lot of orders, what's the best way to communicate that the business isn't taking orders until further notice, is that advisable? Or whats the best approach
    3.how does one deal with a situation where a particular fabric isn't available anymore?

    • @KimDave
      @KimDave  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You're welcome Eucharia.
      1) Most brands create their own size charts and have it readily available on their website for interested customers to see. This makes the available sizes clear for the customers to pick the size that best suits them. However you can offer an additional service of offering bespoke sizes for customers.
      2) Yes it's better to take orders that you or team can handle. Especially if you care about making garments with goof finish, you want to take an amount of orders you can handle either weekly or monthly. You can inform you customers that are at capacity when orders begin to overwhelm you. Communication and transparency works most times.
      3) If a particular fabric is sold-out, you can try sourcing something similar if the style you used it for it's a high performing product. Once you've found a fabric that could be a possible replacement, use it to make the same style for your customers.

    I've seen that people don't understand that "made to order" means is not ready yet! 😂😂😂😂 How?Simply because they want things to be shipped and received on the same pace as an Amazon product. There's a solution for that though which is educate your customers. ❤

    Now after making your designs where exactly can you sell your product?

    • @KimDave
      @KimDave  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      If you want to sell online, you can consider
      - Instagram; take sales via DM. Not my best choice but it's totally free to run
      - Online website hosted on Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Woocommerce, Selar e.t.c. whichever works for you.
      - You can run pop ups where customers can come try on the pieces and place their orders in person

    Hi Kim, I just learned how to sew. I have made a few (imperfect garments) from the sewing class. I wish to make an income or a business from the skills that I've gained, however I'm quite stuck. There are many boutiques here, where people would prefer to get ready made clothes (very well-made) and their options are endless. Would people still buy my clothes? I am thinking to do alterations for now, but my passion is in designing and sewing. However, I still need to sharpen my skills! I don't have fashion background but I have always love art and also making pretty dresses. Truly, I am very stuck now. Should I make a few pieces to showcase my designs or take custom orders (sounds scary to me 😢) . As you said make sure your business is unique, which I agree, but I still don't know where to start! And also thank you for this video! :)

    • @KimDave
      @KimDave  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would recommend doing an internship or apprenticeship at a small to mid-sized fashion studio where well made clothing are created. From doing this, you will learn first hand some useful skills and techniques that you can apply when you feel more ready to start your own label. You will also learn the business side of things which is just as important as creating.
