Makoko is a community that faces many challenges. The people of Makoko live in poverty, and they lack access to basic amenities such as clean water, sanitation, and healthcare. The community is also at risk of flooding, and the houses are built on stilts to protect them from rising water levels. Despite these challenges, Makoko is a vibrant community that has a lot to offer.
One of the opportunities that exist in Makoko is tourism. Makoko is often referred to as the Venice of Africa, and it has become a popular destination for tourists who want to experience the unique culture and way of life in the community. Tourists can take boat rides through the canals of Makoko, visit the local markets, and learn about the history and traditions of the community.

As unorthodox and chaotic as these videos tend to be, it truly gives me an authentic interpretation of what I’d probably be experiencing in the exact same scenario. The “guide” is clueless (somewhat) & so is Shek to an extent and it makes it all the more genuine because we’re all sharing in the experience together. I low key be worried for you sometimes bro, but you’re an authentic guy and it showcases itself in how you engage with em.

For what? Just to make you feel good, eh? FYI, those so-called "high end areas" don't really look good in videos due to the mediocre standard of the access roads, pavements, etc. Yes, the houses may look magnificent, but the high walls, security barbed wire, and (as mentioned earlier) the mediocre standard of the roads and pavements make those places look "somehow." Of course, for people living in Nigeria or someone visiting Nigeria who has spent time visiting other substandard areas in Nigeria, those so called high end areas will look like a different class above the rest. Please watch other videos here showing dangerous/rough areas in countries like Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica etc and observe how the roads, pavements and public amenities in those dangerous areas are far far better than those in the high end areas that you mentioned.

@Deep Probe I concur with you on that as I live overseas. The issue is that the Nigerian government hasn't delivered on its own share of the bargain envers its citizens. Poor infrastructural planning and development is one factor that requires tackling.

To Czech you has captured the inner beauty of the hidden treasures of this place name Makoka in Nigeria. you have visited. The beautiful people there are full of life and vibrancy. The food, the schools and the churches there are similar to the U.S. except that they have a lot less of the rich resources there. The gentleman there in the video was very warmed were opened to showing you how the people live on the water. The water is their life source. I was touched how the people there are so beautiful and they are sharing with you the fish. I love the scenery of the gentleman who were playing pool, and the little children were also playing pool. Most of all l love how the young boy showing of his artwork of the people he painted. He is as good as l am as an artist. It would be nice to help him go to college to study art. And to have his work in museum as well to sell his work. I have visted Kenya in Africa and like the people in Kenya, the people in Makoka are very nice and show warm hospitality. God bless the people there. They are blessed with a richness of life there. The people may not have a lot of money and possessions of materialistic things like here U.S. but what they do have is a zest of life, a sense of community. Also the love of family and unity within their community. Most the all kid in the video who says he wants to become a doctor when he grows up. That was touching to me because he has dreams. That goes to show that people there in Makoka do have dreams dispite of their life circumstances. Makoka is kind of like Italy. The people live on the water is their life's line of survival. Thank you so much for posting your video for us to see. I love your videos and some of the places you visited l also visted and like you l like to see and be among the locales, you learn so much more. hi Czech kudos!!! to your tireless and fearless exploits in tourism ..God is with you to help you bruuu ... I am following your world program.. but just to make it clearer most people on makoko on this water migrated from neighbouring french country, some to find how to survive in Nigeria and some on asylum cos' of maybe tribal disputes or land problems where they were.. back in there country or community so they made way to settle there with few less privileges that settle on that area already from Nig to find a living ....

Wow, what does the government do to help?I have never in my lifetime seen anything like this! I am glad the children don't have the extended bellies and flies surrounding them like on the commercials, so there is some type of civilization and medicine available to them. These people adapt to their society and know of nothing else. They need leaders who care about the people and not about pocketing funds.

Even people living in poverty have their pride. I’m sure they were better off living according to their customs before the European colonizers invaded the country. Western progressivism is not necessarily better. This is what exploitation looks like. It’s sad.

Heard of midwife?? Do you know any history especially of how black women gave birth, who attended to them? Midwives go to their homes!! And the kids are hard at work not begging you, or lazy as most kids nowadays who don't even want to do chores!! You there but your not really there!! What you see should inspire you!! Not having you questioning their way of life by discrimination!!

    • @cultureducation

Yes, there are midwives that come from a long lineage of midwives, passing traditions on for many generations on the continent and the diaspora. The Western doctors have displaced them and the traditions are being lost. This must be preserved.

Hey Mr. Czech good video, interesting. I just found your vids today, watched a couple so far. On this one i might be off but years ago seen a documentary where people living on water like this had to because another group or tribe owned the land section. They would let them cut wood for their houses and boats but could not live on that land. Again maybe this is not the same country of that story. Good job on your documenting this for us to see and learn. Thanks.

The current president (Tinubu) is a yoruba like these poor folks, he was a governor of the state for 8 years. He paid $170 million, yes American $ to steal election to become president. Imagine how $50 million would change the lives and fortune of these folks. If you wondering how Tinubu acquired so much wealth, he is a convicted drug dealer in Chicago and control taxes in Lagos. These poor folks pay taxes to him. His full name; Ahmed Bola Tinubu. Google him been a drug dealer in Chicago to know about him, it's like Escobar as president of Colombia or El Chapo as president of Mexico.
