I've lived just outside of Philly all my life. To me, I never know where the neighborhoods start or end, It's all just North Philly, South Philly, West Philly, Kensington and North East Philly. I've been through all these streets, and sadly even was a customer of these streets. I've seen a lot of bad things happen on these streets, but I've seen a lot of good things happen on these streets. No matter their color or ethnic background most of these people are Philadelphians and most of them are loving people. Even some of the dealers and street guys are relatively ok, and some even live by a strict code of street ethics. Yes, there are many violent people out there that make it unbearable for the good, hard working people of Philadelphia.
One of the more notable things is South Philly where a lot of the Philly Mob used to live and work. Back in the day these were some of the safest streets because no one in their right mind would dare to commit crime in a mob controlled neighborhood. There were places in South Philly where you could leave your door unlocked and nothing would happen. But that was many years ago and things have changed. I would like to see you do a whole documentary on the Streets of Philly from the 70s and 80s. There are a few famous places in Mob history, like the corner of 10th and Wolfe.

Spent some time in Cali and one of my bosses was real scared when I told him I was going to LA, but I had a dude from Detroit and one from Cincinnati and we had no issues, the key is to keep it moving and be about your business. Cities become shitholes gradulally,. It ususlly happens when the authorities start to ignore "small crimes." Those small crimes are then the base for the next level that by definition are the new small crimes. Then they start to ignore those new small crimes and it starts to unravel. Its like the proverbial genie in the bottle. Once let out, its almost impossible to be put back in. In Philadelphia, we are cursed with a mayor and a District Attorney that are cowards. They've decided to ignore the "small crimes" and over time, Philly has become a shithole, ranking right up there with Detroit, Baltimore, New Orleans and St Louis. Philly wasn't like those. It was a jewel on the East Coast; not as large as NYC but having many of the advantages and niceties of a big city. But now it is lost.

I don’t really traverse the city anymore, I did in the late 80’s into the 90’s. 30 years ago these same neighborhoods were drug infested and crime ridden. The war on drugs takes no prisoners, and it’s gutted these neighborhoods. Ancillary crime connected to the black market drug trade only hurts the working poor and this video is an incredible example of that hurt.

I think that this list is correct. I live in Philly and driving around I would have the same top 10. I think that perhaps there are a few West Philly hoods that could make the list but who would they replace? Frankford is the real disappointment. But perhaps because they are neighbors with Kensington there is spillover. I noticed some Kensington spillover in Juniata but they are hanging in there I suppose.
Off the top of my head here are a few more Philly celebs and the hoods they came from. Wil Smith-West Philly/Overbrook. Bill Cosby-North Philly. Eve-Germantown. Kevin Hart-Nicetown. Sylvester Stallone-Northeast/Oxford Circle. Pink-Northeast. QuestLove-North Philly.

Don't kid yourself, it was just as dangerous back then, you were just too young to realize it. When crack hit Hunting Park in the 80s, it was like the wild west. Car jackings and shooting were a daily occurrence. Back in the 90's the badlands were worse than they are today. Much of the drug trade had to be done on open air-corner markets, and that brought a lot of violence. Much of the drug trade now has moved to phone service, where phones are manned 24/7 and you call a number and meet the dealer somewhere. It cuts down on turf wars and corner hustling. But the open air market still thrives in places like Kensington.
I hope you're enjoying NJ where we have a little more room to breathe. I like visiting the city, but living in the NJ suburbs is much better.

@@JubeProductions That's true. Frankford was bad 20 years ago too. Most of Philly was and still is. However, Frankford has gotten even worse within the last few years. @@homeoftek5844 you're right, it's really bad. I know Philly pretty well because I have lived close to there all my life, but I always have a hard time knowing where one section ends and another begins. It's all one big mess to me.
But there are still pockets of nice neighborhoods with good people living there. Some blocks are very well kept and very well maintained. I would say the majority of the people are decent, hard working people living in bad places. A lot of the drug trade is made up of people from outside the city, coming there to buy drugs.

I do deliveries in Philly and even some of the "nicer" areas still have me on my toes. It feels like the only areas that are somewhat "safe" are in deadcenter center city. otherwise it's always keep one eye to the left and one to the right. Shit's bad and feels like it's getting worse and it sucks to see it happen to such a historic and beautiful city

I know I'm 100 percent safe when the dog is with me or my wife, and the dog really doesn't do anything but sit there and be seen. Nobody wants to mess with the dog. Look at a map. I’m not gearing this video to the general Philly “hood audience” I’m from the hood in Philly, born and raised in Kensington. North side by fairhill. However I’m listing them as they are referred to by zoning and the map of Philadelphia. Even the police refer to sectors as north central, north Philadelphia east, north Philadelphia west. Etc. not to be confused with west Philly. If you ever rode the subway there is a north central Philadelphia train stop. Click this link of a Philadelphia map and zoom in. Boom. Philadelphia
      goo.gl/maps/pMZX5XwqsmBtvcXw8
Obviously the general hood consensus is north philly, west Philly. South Philly. South west Philly. North west Philly. Northeast Philly and center city Philadelphia.
But when you act as a brand and or network where the masses watch a video you have to appeal to a larger audience then just the hood. 💯🙏🏼

I've been through these places...back when I DJ'ed a lot in Philly. I had a lot of friends in those areas. I got my CCW permit and always carried a .357 magnum with me. Still do when I visit them...well...the ones that are still alive. Never had a problem though. Most residents just want a polite "hello" or to just be left alone. Not saying the video is wrong. Not by a long shot. Just making an observation and sharing personal experiences.
'Course, that was all about 13 years ago. I'm sure it's all gone straight to hell since then. After a friend of mine got his windshield shot out driving through Chester (about 18 months ago and yes, I know Chester isn't technically a Philly hood, it's worse IMO), I've been trying to avoid the entire area of the state. Hate to not visit friends but also really like not getting shot at.

Port Richmond for the most part is relatively safe but it's right next to kensington.... Harrogate. And 3-5 minutes away from fairhill. So traveler discretion is advised. All of the neighborhoods can be safe. Or all can be dangerous. Crime travels. So just be aware of your surroundings , carry good energy and mind your business when traveling through and you should be OK.
Port richmond closer to 95 is a bit cleaner/safer .
