Akira is an incredible guitarist and often overlooked when it comes to 80's shredders. I listened to Thunder in the East so many times that the tape wore out. I believe that in later years he went on to score music for video games and anime productions, both of which are HUGE markets in Japan.
Because he was playing all of Eddie Van Halen's licks. Tons of people on TH-cam are doing that as we speak. Doesn't really make one stand out. Lightning Strikes is such a ripoff of 1984 and 5150 it should be a freakin crime.

Incredible guitar player today as he was back then. I saw them in their 1985 thunder in the East tour at the Hollywood Palladium. Two great local L.A bands opened up for them, Warrior which also had a Japanese guitar player, and Malice. It was a great show and best time to be young in the 80s.

In 1985 Akira was right there , he busted his ass and woodshedded quite a lot. You cannot get to this level without thousands of hours of practice. His riffs and songwriting skills were accomplished during this time. His is quite amazing and underrated.
I always thought Akira had the best guitar tone. When I heard Thunder in the East, I had to have that sound. I had the Kramer guitar with the maple fretboard, many tube amps, stainless steel pick. Great memories!

They opened for Motley Crue on this tour and absolutely blew the headliners off the stage!
Pretty easy to do when a headliners bassist can hardly play it.
