Considering this would be episode 5 to which Melanie was shocked and horrified that big alice managed to save the tail and to reconnect back to them however Lilah and Robert included Ruth knew that was Wilford so they kinda switch leadership from Melanie to Wilford so they would go downtrain to meet wilford himself but as usual big alice managed to Hijack snowpiercer however for Javi he was very smart that he could managed to overheat the hijack system causing it to hijack half of the train itself 50% so now Melanie was there downtrain as they were all excited to see wilford but instead Melanie was surprised they managed to survive as wilford was waiting for them when the train stopped at Chicago. Now it draws the attention between Melanie & Layton that they bith might have the same feeling that they dont really want Wilford to take the engine back to his power.
