The week this originally aired, as an episode of "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert", some of us especially wanted to watch it, for being the only time a Klaatu song was aired on American television. Plus it was the only completed animation for a proposed film called "Happy New Year, Planet Earth."
Never liked Byron Allen, but now I've got some respect for him, since it's clear he started out very young...One of the most powerful people in the industry now.
What's up with the clipped music videos? Rod Stewart, Olivia Newton-John and Mike Nesmith had their songs removed, while we got the entirety of The Unknown Comic?! That's a glitch in the Betamax!
49:56 - It's interesting to see an advert for Penn Hills Resort. There is a good mini-documentary about this place on TH-cam which I have seen. It's abandoned now, but was still operating into the 2000's I think.
"Klay-Two?" Glad to see the rare music video, but I imagine their management was a little annoyed that they pronounced the band's name wrong. Klaatu was once rumored to be The Beatles incognito, but in actuality were a trio of Canadian musicians who had revealed their identities by the time this song was released. The song "A Routine Day" came from their third album "Sir Army Suit" released in 1978.
Gawd the Jordache look…commercial was on 50 times a day..as a 9 year old ah yes I remember the “look” ha ha,..you know I never noticed the bartender completely spills the dudes 🍺 beer!
14:40 my neighbor had one. I remember walking down the steps and sliding even though I was tall when I was in kindergarten. Never should have stopped making it, but I bet some mom thought it might be dangerous. 😢
Don Kirschner's Rock Concert (which this is a part of) began on ABC, but apparently by the time of this airing in 1979 it had become syndicated, and was aired nationwide. I've seen it listed in newspapers as having aired on August 18, 1979.
And it’s not about the music; it’s the nostalgia especially for GenXers. Besides, anyone who remembers Don Kischner’s Rock Concert knows the musical acts were always hit or miss, anyway.
I was either in 5th or 6th grade depending on what month this aired. Looking back on this the only thing I can think of was the vast amount of coke available in the green room.
I was 15 and would watch anything music related on tv. If ya didn't have the $ for a concert then this is what were left with... the tv.... or rent/buy concert videos on VHS or Betamax haha. Concerts were dirt cheap too, but ya had to mow a lot of lawns to afford a $25 ticket. I'm not going to say anything else because I sound boomer-ish... and I am :(
Wow, 3 seconds each of Nesmith, Cocker and anything else anyone might give a shit about, leaving nothing but honey garbage and old ads! There's almost a minute of Cheap Trick, but only because they're in a freaking commercial! What a total bummer!
Thanks for watching the video. There's copyright restrictions on uploading to youtube especially for music. I could have just chose to share the commercials only and not the show at all, but I wanted to share lost media with everyone to enjoy.
So it was a pilot for a show on a local station. They didn’t may much of a budget. They tried to do an SNL skit-type thing anyway. They favored advertisers by putting a lot of ads in it, presumably for free. It didn’t work. Thats ok, they tried. At least the girls are cute.
@@timstamps5281 I will defer, but it’s has so many plugs for local NBC affiliate that it looks like a local show. Many local stations tried something like this back in the day.
Yeah,we got to see hot girls and listen to great music. Nothing creepy or weird about how people are today. Like grown men saying they "identify" as a 12 year old girl. Nothing creepy about that at all. Right?
Copyright is a thing you know. The fact that any footage uploaded is a godsend. I mean when are you ever going to find such a rare segment? So not lame….
I am looking for the Cartoon Episode from I't Punky Brewster The SHoe Must Go On. The original Hourlong Ghostwriter blocks from PBS with the original contests between the 2 episodes. Thanks.
A good example of how horrible pop culture was in the 70s. Yes, we had Frampton and Zeppelin but it was 98% this shit. You only had one or two other channels to choose from and there as no way to skip past the ads.
Oh dang, I thought I was gonna get to see The Time Machine - lol!
I remember seeing that when it came out. So bad, it was good
More Star Wars
Less Steampunk

As of this writing(7/30/24) Murray Langston (the Unknown Comic) is still alive at age 80!!

Holy cow, Klaatu?!
What a find, I didn't know that video existed.
Great flashback of late 70s cheese. I graduated from HS in 1980, but missed this.
Sarah Dash, too! My goodness!!

This 1979 rare lost TV pilot Weekend Jam was totally awesome, plus, super magnificent commercials as well!!

Stupid copyright stuff. Internet archive don't cut stuff out
Wow! Brings back a lot of memories. Those commercials! Everything was dripping with SEX.
LOL! Mike Nesmith once threated to punch Don Kirschner is the face.
I mean who wouldn't
Awfully punchable
And sadly his segment is cut here. I get it, copyright issues

That was a good show. The ads brought back some memories!
Looks like night flight before USA Night Flight!
This aired at 1 a.m. Sunday, June 3, 1979.
So I’m guessing that the little clip of SNL must have been the end of the Rolling Stones episode.
i'm only here for the commercials

I'm bummed because I didn't get to see the entire Sarah Dash clip!!!!!
Danny Aiello in ad for local New York show

Dude, we were all coked out of our heads. 'Normal' he says.. 🤣😂🤣🤣😅

is there any way you can upload at least the Klaatu segment from this on something like Google Drive? thank you so much for the upload :D
4k video downloader.
This is freaking amazing... Is there any way to get a copy of the unedited version? I'm obsessed.
Too bad that Olivia newton john thing was cut out.
If this was after Saturday Night Live, then it must have 1am or 1:30am for this premier.
"Blow on it!" Damn.
Terrible yet wonderful
Really disappointed that the music numbers can't be played. I know it's because of rights issues, but it still sucks
